I don't think I will rescue anyone for a while.

Posted: 31 Aug 2018 06:23 AM PDT

Had a message pop up that someone would join me if I saved them from a raid. Only one guy to fight. No big deal. Sent two people to take him down.

Except my best shooter was head shot by him almost instantly.

My doctor decided to take the slowest route to rescue her and she died a few feet from the hospital bed. Sad but shit happens.

Her husband was on his way back with the caravan, and since I make him my usual grave digger, I thought I'd freeze her body so he could bury her himself. Except everyone was starving and I forgot to mark her corpse as forbidden...

Her husband comes home only to collapse due to starvation, but thankfully I got him in a bed before he croaked. I sent the new guy (the one who needed rescue and caused all this) to feed him...(but again forgot to make any meals first) and he ended up feeding him his own wife's corpse.

I love this game.

Why you shouldnt open ancient dangers

Posted: 31 Aug 2018 05:48 PM PDT

I had four people. Sammy, my sniper with his flak armor and laser gun; Drumm, my miner who had no real combat capability; Carl, my main builder and secondary fighter; and Ro, my tribal fighter.

One day, I sent Sammy to break down an ancient danger. I knew there might be mechanoids but hey, This one was quite small and I was hoping there would just be cryptosleep caskets.

Thats where I went wrong.

Sammy and his husky broke down the wall. Immediately, three lancers and two centipedes poured out of the hive. Sammy sent his husky in to hold them back so he could retreat. As he ran away, one of the lancers downed his huskey and a centipede shot him with an inferno cannon, downing him aswell.

Drumm ran over, with bullets flying everywhere she was on a mission. Saving Sammy was the only chance that they had. Drumm managed to get Sammy to the hospital, though he was badly wounded from the mechanoids. Drumm, Carl, and Ro went on a mission to recover Sammy's prized laser rifle. Without that, if the Mechanoids attacked they wouldnt stand a chance. As they approached the weapon, they were shot at by a lancer. Carl ran forward to combat it while Drumm and Ro stood back. A few seconds later, Carl was shot in the stomach by one of the lancers and proceeded to immediately die.

Drumm and Ro ran in, downing a lancer with their clubs and moving to fight a centipede. As the Sammy's husky perished in the background, both Drumm and Ro were downed by inferno cannons.

Then the man in black came. He was carrying a revolver, but had 0 shooting skill. At the same time he came, the tribals that were spending time at the base decided to leave. The mechanoids immediately started shooting at them, and the man in black moved in to help. The tribals had never seen these creatures before. They ran in blindly, shooting wildly with their bows and the mechanoids killed them one by one. Eventually, the man in black was downed by a Centipede as well.

With no one left, and the mechanoids patrolling the once beautiful colony, Sammy was left alone in the infirmary. In shock from the pain of his injuries, he eventually starved to death. A slow and painful end to this colony.

Go-juice is amazing

Posted: 31 Aug 2018 06:56 PM PDT

Ive never tried drugs other than psychite tea, smokeleaf and beer. However Randy decided to send me a raid right after I finished dealing with a poison ship. I wasnt even finish patching everyone up.

The raid were 11 people. I have 8 colonist and only 3 were able to fight. One of the enemy pawns went a different route so I managed kill him easy. He dropped a bottle of go-juice. I see the rest of the attackers coming our way now and I say "fuck it"

I make my main pawn (a charismatic skilled careful shooter with an assault rifle) take it. With some micro from the other 2 pawns as bait I managed to kill 3 of them before they downed my 2 pawns.

It was just my last able pawn vs the rest. Thanks to go juice im able to out pace their melees while shooting at them. After killing some they started leaving.

He took a high level melee fighter as prisoner, finished helping my non violent pawn patch and feed everyone up before going to rest and he's still high on go juice lol

Im not sure how long it takes to wear off or how easy is to get addicted but I sure as hell going to research it and have some bottles ready for future raids. Cant believe Ive been playing all this time without it.

These colonists are struggling just to survive and face the most dangerous things imaginable on a daily basis. From disease, to Raiders and manhunting animals, they still find someone they're willing to spend the remainder of their lives with not knowing whether they'll be alive tomorrow, or be horribly disfigured from an animal attack.

This goddamn game

Posted: 31 Aug 2018 09:58 PM PDT

So I've been playing the commitment mode recently, which is honestly making the game a whole lot more fun, and i'm getting a lot more attached to my colonists... for the most part.

So I have 3 colonists. Xavier, Daniel, and Dmitri. Xavier is unable to do violence (just went with 3 random colonists at start) but he's pretty good at everything else. And considering the fact I had already had 1 new recruit captured, and 1 killed, I was glad to at least have him. Until now.

A tribe sent me a mission to defeat an outpost and I would get a grand sculpture and a nice new gun, so I thought I could finish the mission and use the money from the sculpture to get ahead a little bit. So I send Dmitri and Daniel to go take out this outpost. They get there, kill the two guards, grab a little extra stuff, and begin their journey home. No big deal right?

Well with the mission complete the tribe deliver the sculpture and gun, which Xavier immediately puts in the indoor stockpile for safekeeping. As soon as he puts both inside a raid triggers. It's just one guy with a knife so I figure I can just have Xavier stay inside the building and just fix/put out fires from the inside.

It all starts well as the raider smacks the walls a couple times and gets fixed as soon as he does, then he goes and sets my farm on fire which is no big deal. He comes back over to my building and sets a wall on fire. Now up until this point I was trying to micro Xavier so that he wouldn't go outside.

And this is where I made my mistake. I told him to put out the fire, and I checked for one second just to see how long until my caravan arrived at home, and he opened the door. He opened the goddamn door. The raider rushes in and starts stabbing him and of course he can't do anything about it. He downs him and the message displays that the raiders are taking what they can and are leaving.

This mother fucker picks up my brand new Large Limestone Statue and just starts walking away with it. All I can do is just sit there and watch as he leaves with ~$2000 worth of loot while my base burns to the ground. With 3 days until my caravan arrives home I'm not holding onto hope for Xavier. Or my sculpture.

I just got it too :(

TL:DR Commitment mode is 100% worth it.
