Operator Idea: Hertz

Posted: 08 Sep 2018 12:04 PM PDT

Many players very much enjoy Glaz, myself included, thanks to his unique playstyle and mechanics. Often though, I wonder if there were other ways one could introduce a dedicated sniper character to Siege. Here's an idea I've had kicking around in my head for some time.

Country of Origin: Finland
-Finland is a country historically renowned for their marksmen, especially for the tactics displayed during The Winter War.

Side: Attacking
-Self explanatory, letting defenders snipe is out of the question

Speed / Armor: 2/2
-Having this character be max armor would be a bit too strong, since the bullet dropoff from defender SMGs would make this op too formidable at longer ranges, hurting balancing. Alternatively, having them be max speed would be counterintuitive to the intended playstyle by making them strafe too fast and encourage rush-down tactics.

Primary: 7.62 TKIV 85
-Modernized Mosin Nagant used by Finland's special-op snipers. This would make it the first bolt-action gun in the game. There would be a high risk-reward factor due to this, since needing to bolt the rifle will put them at a serious disadvantage in a more hectic firefight. It ideally would deal high damage; however it should not be a guaranteed kill once the damage threshold is crossed, as this would make it very easy to finish off defenders who have already been lit up by allied attackers. Instead it should use tranq rounds like Caviera's "Luison," downing defenders once the HP threshold is crossed instead of killing them outright. Once a bullet is fired or a dry reload is performed, the gun will need to be bolted. Bolting will count as a "reload phase," which can be animation cancelled by normal means (sprinting, switching weapon, etc.). Should the bolt animation be cancelled, it must be started up again next time the weapon is drawn and in resting position. The weapon uses a 5 round box mag, meaning six bullets when the chamber is loaded. The rifle should have access to the full range of scopes as well as the laser sight, but should not be permitted access to a silencer, lest the weapon become too powerful at long distances.

Sidearm: PIST 2003
-Known more commonly as the Walther P99. The pistol should have fairly standard behavior concurrent with the game's other 9mm pistols, and in fact would not behave too dissimilarly to the French P9, including the 15 round magazine with 16 bullets total for one in the chamber. The pistol's primary function will be to close in on downed opponents for finishing them off.

Non-Unique Gadgets: Claymore and Breach Charges
-Claymore will help this op cover blind spots and backtrack points while holding angles and watching points. The breach charges will help establish sightlines and new means of creating angles, as well as the ever useful instant ingress to a building.

Gadget: Short-Range Broadband Scrambler
-A modern reimagining of Cold War crude tech. On their back this operator will carry a radio pack. When activated, this gadget broadcasts a flood of information on the defense broadband relay for roughly four or five seconds. It will have a few specific effects during this duration. Defenders will be unable to hear canned dialogue from the mission handler or other defenders, but voice chat will still be audible. Instead, for the duration of this gadget's active there will be a constant droning radio static which will muffle oncoming footsteps and faraway gunshots. Also the overhead leaderboard will be covered in an imposing static, obfuscating one of the most classic and important elements of the gameplay: who is alive and who is dead. The intention of this gadget will be to sew chaos in the defenders' ranks during this duration, rewarding coordinated attack teams with a major advantage. Any defender standing in an ECM Jammer's vicinity will be immune to these effects. It is best to limit the gadget to two uses for balance purposes regarding intel control.

Name: Hertz

Thanks for reading. I'm glad I'm finally sharing this idea on a large scale. I hope others enjoy this idea as much as I enjoyed coming up with it. Have a great day!

The siege community is so toxic.

I have seen neo-nazi minecraft servers that are less toxic. Why are people like this? It's seriously ruining an otherwise good game.

The one thing siege is missing...

I don't need cutscenes, I don't need elite uniforms, I don't need a tachanka buff. Please just make a shooting range game mode, I can't imagine it would be more difficult then outbreak was to create and it would be way more useful. Custom settings, Unlimited time, unlimited ammo, and let us get the time in on the range. In a game where accuracy is so critical, not having a dedicated way to practice recoil and test attachments conveniently especially for new players makes the learning curve that much more challenging. Sure, there are ways to simulate this in game but to have a menu option and freedom to experiment with any operator would make the whole process a lot more accessible.

Tl;Dr I want a shooting range in the game

Meaning of "xD"

Posted: 08 Sep 2018 04:00 AM PDT

Yesterday there was a guy in my team that asked in in-game chat the meaning of "xD". Really awkward situation, nobody really knew what to say. He didn't get an answer to his question. Meanwhile, another teammate wrote "It's upstairs", talking about the bomb sites we were looking for. The first one replied by "Oh, thank you !"...

I just wanted you all to know : there's a guy that sends "xD" in chat whenever the bomb sites are upstairs
