Looking to play support again. I need a refresher.

Posted: 07 Sep 2018 07:20 PM PDT

Hello!

A long time ago, I used to be a support main. After that, I then played a lot of carry heroes (juggernaut and arc warden mainly). I've gotten some games where people just don't want to support, and I lose sometimes because of it. I decided that I should add support to my ranked hero pool.

Since it's been a long time since I've played support, I really need a refresher on how to play it. I would also appreciate some advanced tips you guys may have. I plan on playing Lich mainly btw.

Thanks in advance!

In a meta where winning lanes is extremely important, how did OG manage to win so many games even after losing almost all their lanes in many of their games?

Posted: 07 Sep 2018 07:24 AM PDT

People say that winning lanes is extremely important. I have seen OG lose so many lanes, and yet they manage to win these games. How so? People are blaming EG, LGD for throwing or some specific player, but I don't think that is fair. It can happen once, twice or maybe even thrice. .OG convincingly won the TI and I think there should be a deeper reason than the opposing team making a mistake.

Confused about 10 minute Lasthit-Practice

Posted: 07 Sep 2018 07:19 PM PDT

Hello guys, Im confuse about 10 minute lasthit-practice do you stop at exact 10 minute mark and count the result (LH/DN) which the last creepwave spawn @ 9:30 or it should be the last creepwave @ 10 and clear the wave more than 10 minute.

Sorry for my english, Not my native language.

Should I use smart-cast always or does it matter?

Posted: 07 Sep 2018 12:45 PM PDT

So I'm kinda a noob coming from a long time playing league, In league basically every top player would use smartcast on every skill save maybe a couple. (Obviously there are a couple exceptions).

So I have gotten used to playing league and I only use smartcast for everything.

Now when I'm watching dota streams I feel like many people don't use smartcast or something? I see on people using tp scrolls a line seems to appear between them and the TP, and some other things. So basically I'm wondering is that something other then normal casting? or am I hindering myself by trying to use everything on smartcast.

How do you deal with people who demand mid?

Posted: 07 Sep 2018 05:59 PM PDT

I was just looking for opinions on what to do when you're looking to mid and somebody else says something like 'stfu I mid'. I've been trialling a system where I ask to roll for mid and if they don't agree then I go mid too in an attempt to make them regret not being fair, but this is just draining for me and it ruins the game for my team - but at the same time, I don't want to be an appeaser and bow down to their toxic attitude. Has anyone come across a better way to deal with this situation?

Edit: I'm unranked if that's important.

Can someone help me what's wrong with my playstyle?

Posted: 07 Sep 2018 06:54 AM PDT

I can play any role but I'm inclined playing pos 4 or 5. I want to play pos 1 or 3 as well but if I play core, the supports are not that good compared me playing support. I honestly want to play core but something's missing. Thanks in advance dudes 😃

Who/when buys these items?? And what would CM buy?

Posted: 07 Sep 2018 12:28 PM PDT

so this is a two part question but the first one here would be what kind of luxury items would CM buy or just her current CORE builds.

as for items, im mainly talking about the new items in the game, even though they are interesting i just never see the time/place to get them.

items are
Meteror Hammer

Aeon Disk (i heard it's a noob 1st buy trap, should buy at most 3rd item)
nullifier

Rod of atos (i know its not a new item but i got a love for it , especially on CM to be a bit tankier and also have a long range root to catch people, but again what's most effective with it? stopping blink targets?)

What macro decisions could be made better in this faceless void game?

Posted: 07 Sep 2018 09:36 AM PDT

Link to dotabuff: https://www.dotabuff.com/matches/4104474913

So, I had a match as faceless void in the game above. The reason why I picked void was because they picked 4 melee cores, which almost makes it the perfect void game. I feel like we were outdrafted this game, as while AA and especially ww is gd against their lineup, I believe the pudge and especially the qop picks were terrible.

From the picking perspectives, I was telling my mid to pick necro but they wanted to pick qop, so it couldn't be helped.

I had a pretty free lane as the sven was harassed out of lane, and while my cs was by no means perfect, I think it was decent.

During the midgame, I was mainly farming the jungle camps, rotating to splitpush the lane and finding pickoffs with chronosphere, and then rotating if other lanes were being pushed in. While I did quite a decent amount of tower damage and pressure, I didn't feel comfortable pushing harder due to the numerous stuns and the shadow blades in their team.

Overall, I believe we were simply outcarried due to their 5 core lineup as my top lane didn't seem to be applying much pressure and my qop wasn't really ganking much, and as I was pushing the other lanes and picking off whatever heroes there were, it seems like they couldn't 1v4 the dk. Essentially, I felt like the game boiled down to me and dk having a 1v1 as every other hero seemed to be feeding to some extent.

My item choices were aquila(for stats/dmg/mana)>treads(stats)>MoM(farming and pickoffs)>shadow blade(pickoffs)>bkb(mostly enigma but also general stuns)>mkb(anticipating bfly or am and possibly sven)>linkens(for stuns like dk and ursa's basher/abyssal). I would probably have gotten a butterfly next due to the rightclick nature of their heroes, followed by mjollnir for both the passive and active dmg and attack speed. It would be great if you had some ideas about the item build.

Tl;dr It would be great if you could watch or look over the replay and suggest what I could have done better (specifically) on a macro-scale. Things like cs better are always applicable, but that comes with more practise and is general advise for everyone.

Spectre vs pl lategame (>40 mins)

Posted: 07 Sep 2018 08:53 AM PDT

Does anyone have access to statistics of tge spectre vs pl matchup after 40 mins and is willing to share it? I spam both heroes and I know that spectre generally outcarries pl unless hard countered by other heroes, but would like to know the actual statistics.

I want to analyze my replays, but I don’t know what to look for

I've lost 10 games in a row despite learning a lot more?? LF replay analysis please.

Posted: 07 Sep 2018 06:54 AM PDT

This was my most recent loss: https://www.dotabuff.com/matches/4104898855

It feels like I've been playing worse despite reading and learning so much more about the game. I would really appreciate it if someone could have a look and just point out where I should focus to improve and win more games.

Edit: Sorry, I was the MK.

The dotabuff is right here https://www.dotabuff.com/matches/4104285717 I felt like our team was doing pretty well this game, I got pretty much all the farm I wanted and got stacks, but we still couldn't pull this win out. Any and all feedback is greatly appreciated!

Looking to discuss a game I just lost + a few questions I have as carry

Posted: 07 Sep 2018 05:29 AM PDT

https://www.dotabuff.com/matches/4104150139

I just had this unfortunate game that we lost that we definitely should've won had I played better. In this game we had a greedy draft but our meepo was good enough to control most of the game.

problem was @30 mins, meepo started throwing after losing his aegis and failing to end the game. while throwing is an incredibly immature thing to do, I think a part of why he did it was that he was frutrated at me for having a shitty kda/gpm. I couldn't help him end the game at all because I had shitty items and I suck at fighting without them.

Question time:

  • how do I deal with greedy drafts like this? Meepo and tink takes up so much resources that I'm forced to farm really uncomfortable spots because I don't have their mobility. In this game I had 600 TD which is so terrible on a hero like Luna but that was because I couldn't get into and hit towers safely because meepo and tink were EVERYWHERE.

  • my kda also shows just how much I suck at fighting. But does this even matter on heroes like Luna who're just looking to push or farm? I only ever fight when I have my items or when I can't avoid it but for the latter it almost always results to me dying

  • when do I take glaives at lv4?

PS: I always first pick Luna and whenever I can't do that (someone picks carry ahead of me) that's when I just play whatever my team needs.

How do I lane as a mid Storm Spirit against a huskar?

Posted: 07 Sep 2018 04:50 AM PDT

Just got destroyed in a game being unable to get any farm. Huskar was able to get a big level and farm advantage since I wasn't able to contest him. Can't just leave the lane to the huskar either since I risk losing the tower.
