League of Legends to Introduce Separate Ranked Queue for Female and Nonbinary Players in 2019, Will not Include Male Champions

Posted: 02 Sep 2018 08:00 AM PDT

It has been a controversial week for Riot Games, starting with their first responses to claims of sexism and harassment in offices across the world and ending with their decision to exclude a large portion of their player base from panels at PAX West. These decisions have the League of Legends community, especially posters and commenters on /r/LeagueofLegends, in an uproar. However, Rioters are ignoring the swathes of man-babies on the internet and are doubling down on their proposed solution to end sexism in League of Legends- and the entire world- once and for all.

"We got the idea to separate queues for men, women, and nonbinary individuals from the positive responses we saw in the community after the PAX decision," an anonymous Rioter said in an exclusive interview. "Women and non-binary people only enjoy a specific set of activities that does not overlap with the activities enjoyed by men, so it was easy for us to make the decision without any sort of discussion or transparency. Today, we're proud to announce we're working to bring similar changes to League of Legends itself- and fighting sexism with sexism is just the tip of the iceberg."

According to our sources, the new queue will open alongside the planned ranked changes Riot has in place for the 2019 season, such as positional ranks and a redesigned progression system. To make the queue even safer, Riot has decided to remove all male champions from the pick/ban phase and make them unavailable in the game. We asked Riot employee Daniel Klein to expand on the decision:

"Well, everyone who isn't a man is obviously scared of men," he explained. "These people are weak, scared babies who can't fend for themselves and cower in fear every time a man is around. I just feel so sorry for them. PAX was our first attempt to save these poor creatures, and I still feel the need to do something more."

When pressed for details on the queue, Klein offered, "Well, it's only going to be available until 2:30 PM every day for the first month. We're open to expanding the hours, but you'll have about a billion other opportunities to play. You'll also need to provide a form of identification along with your home address for the queue, which we will of course use to keep you safe and will not be passed around to all the bros in the office for a 'hot or not' contest. And now that I think about it, Ezreal is still available too." Klein left the interview early after this, insisting his brain had been compromised and he needed to go feed his pet sea lion. "How dare you exclude me from this interview," he said, walking out the door on his own. "What a joke."

Unfortunately, this is all the information publicly available on Riot's man-free ranked variation, tentatively called No-Go Queue. We will update this story as more details become available.

Interview with Riot Games: "Women can do anything men can do, especially when you don't let men do anything."

Posted: 02 Sep 2018 07:34 AM PDT

Amidst the controversy, we here at The Biscuit wanted to reach out to Riot Games and allow them a chance to explain themselves to the rest of the community. They were generous enough to agree and gave us this imaginary interview that I have to say I made up for legal reasons. Here's what followed:

Thank you for agreeing to this again. How do you feel about r/leagueoflegends backlash against your PAX event and DZK's comments?

"You know how much bullshit [that subreddit] has caused me? Personally? I've spent many many hours of my work day dealing with it. It looks like a damn homunculus.

Wait we've already started? Excuse me.

Yes, of course, you're welcome.

While we stand by our policy on women-only events, we have a zero tolerance for employees acting without respect...but to be fair, it's not like he slept with their wives."

Maybe not, but some female redditors have stated that no, they don't believe men should be excluded from these events because it can be a learning opportunity for men who wish to deal with women respectfully. How would you like to address these concerns?

"Well, no doesn't necessarily mean no. While these women are saying 'no they don't agree' now, they'll be thanking us when they see the ways we've catered this event to them and the games they play. If men were there, we'd have to make the entire panel about a real game, like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 or Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3."

What does that mean? Are the panels specific to women's tastes?

"Yes, we catered each panel to specifically tackle issues related to women. For example, our storytelling panel focuses on female archetypes. For that one, we're planning to run through how women in the industry are basically all Damsels in Distress, and we here at Riot are the only ones that know how to / what can save them. We don't want them thinking for themselves when they can be using that brain power to think for our game instead."

But shouldn't you have at least let people know right when the PAX panels were announced? Some male gamers were concerned that they bought tickets to PAX specifically to attend your panels, and now they feel cheated.

"Honestly, we were hoping League of Legends Wikia would cover it for us. They know things about our game we didn't even know. Apparently Cleanse doesn't work on Malzahar ult? Who would've guessed? But anyway, men already know everything to begin with, so they should've used their privilege to know this before we knew this."

From the outside looking in, this decision looks a bit shortsighted. How does these kind of women-only events factor into the long run?

"People don't understand, this problem is like just the tip of the iceberg [Authors note: upon saying this, Riot Games pointed to its own shirt and asked us six times if we got it]. Before we had these exclusive events, we were farting in women's faces. With these women-only events, we've been able to teach them how to fart in their own faces. The smell of one's own farts is extremely empowering, and it allows women to voice their opinions like real toxic-stomached men."

Do you have any more plans to include women more exclusively?

"Yes, from now until 2:30, we're releasing exclusive loading screen borders for all the women and non-binary folk out there. These can be bought with any skin for only 613 RP more. All proceeds will go to our new charity 'Women Without Borders,' so we can further compartmentalize our female player base with the borders they deserve."

And any sort of thank you for the men who have stuck by your cause?

"For all the toxic-by-birth manbabies out there who have stuck with us through this process, we will be rewarding them with a free God King Garen skin. For those that already own the skin, we're releasing a legacy version with a brand new added voice line for his ult. He will now scream "DEMA-SHE-A!" whenever he uses it on another male champion."

Do you plan to smooth things over with the rest of the community?

"To show we are all-inclusionary, we are in the process of creating a Dark Waters Rengar skin for all the dissenters, so they can fuck off and Sea Lion on the rift instead."

How about two panels covering all the same topics, one for just women and the underrepresented, and one for everyone?

"We'd love to but we don't have another Lux skin coming out for at least another month, and that means no extra funding to cover this in the meantime. You gotta remember, we're losing money since no one has figured out how to monetize streaming to hundreds of thousands of people every weekend. And any budget extra we have goes straight to our 'HR' and 'PR' departments, whatever those are for."

Understandable. Do you have any final words for the community as a whole?

"Can that wait until we get back from the company-wide trip to the Dominican Republic? I told the girl I'm bringing that I'll design a champion after her if she came with me, but I'll do something cool with the character and make her a different species or make her 1000 years old."

100Thieves starting Rikara instead of Cody Sun in semis versus Team Liquid

Posted: 02 Sep 2018 10:13 AM PDT

As can be seen in their tweet just now. Interesting change, very last minute as well. I assume they've played scrims with him, so very curious to see what Rikara can bring to the table versus Doublelift and Olleh!

TIL: The sound of Kassadin "breathing" is actually when his E (Force Pulse) is ready to cast

Posted: 02 Sep 2018 09:16 AM PDT

I've heart this "breathing" sound quite a lot of times when playing as/alongside/against Kassadin and only recently I realized that it only plays when Kassadin can cast his E (he needs 6 stacks to cast it, he can get stacks each time any spell is used nearby him).

It is a breathing sound with a void-ish audio processing.

EDIT: From what I found in the pratice mode, Kassadin also gains a small void, purple energy pulse around his body when he can cast his E (in the Cosmic Reaper skin, this energy pulse is colored blue/white instead of being purple)

C9 truly is a charm/pleasure to have in the LCS

Posted: 02 Sep 2018 09:19 AM PDT

Don't really post often here but I think I just had to after watching C9 vs. TSM. C9's journey this split has honestly just seemed like a fairy tale. From facing so much hardship early on- criticism, loss of fan's faith and immense stress- to making it to finals. That to me feels like the spirit of C9 for all these years. Able to defy odds when they need to the most. Beating TSM (who themselves played such an amazing series themselves) and breaking that long losing streak to me is the first step into a very bright future with this squad.

Kelsey Moser Speaks Out Against the PAX Situation

It's nice to see a different perspective on the situation, as I haven't really seen someone from the 'scene' really speak out against it. Also, for those who weren't aware, Frostskurrin had Kelsey blocked over a difference of opinions regarding the topic of sexism (https://twitter.com/Froskurinn/status/1026962147329208320)

EDIT: It seems Thorin has joined the discussion and has taken a similar stance to Kelsey (https://twitter.com/Thooorin/status/1036088288552124416)

Thresh mains apparently never played with a thresh support.

Posted: 02 Sep 2018 03:52 AM PDT

All thresh mains I meet have some great combos and to some degree good hooks. But all of them do the same mistake:

They throw the lantern when trying to save someone ON TOP OF THE CHAMPION. So if an enemy champion is within the circle as well it becomes really hard to press the lantern.

The effect and click radius for the lantern is super huge, just throw it somewhere close to me ffs.

BREAKING: Custody stolen from Willump, Nunu to be given to undisclosed Mrs. Willump thanks to COURAGEOUS Lore Update

Posted: 01 Sep 2018 09:09 PM PDT

In an upending lore update, Willump & Nunu will be separated from one another by an egregiously lackadaisical court decision. But the change itself is nothing compared to its origin story.

According to corroborating reports, Riot Games has allegedly perpetuated a sexist work environment for the last several years--many were fairly disappointed, remaining dubious of the company's ability to get back on the right track. Many were hopeful they could recover from their toxic work environment and continue to make an excellent MOBA.

To help alleviate community concerns, Riot announced an event at PAX that was exclusive to women. Exclusive events like these are seen as controversial as it is unsure whether they help or denigrate the cause they set out to promote; the outrage could barely be contained as thousands of comments and posts flooded all of League's many forums, each one heralding the death of Riot Games. For whatever reason, male League players also wanted a chance to learn game design from Riot Games, which is kinda not a good idea. There was also meant to be a segment on advanced cosplay, and many male players complained they deserved a shot at huge amounts of karma and awkward breathy comments on the lol subreddit.

"This was a foolish move," says one rights activist. "The formerly lethargic League community has banded together against what they see as feminism. At this rate, they will have feminism 'solved' in forty-eight hours. Our plan to enslave men involved really, super hoping that no one in the League of Legends community noticed us. But dammit! Riot had to go bring attention to our plot..."

To rectify the situation, Riot Games landed on a seriously good idea.

"We messed up and went too far one way," said Riot Berg. "So now we'll do something in the complete other direction, and when people get mad again, we'll like pivot back, and we'll, like, just do that for a really long time until the heat death of the universe or something we don't know. We just want people to quit being sea lions."

Placating the outrage males felt towards the PAX conference will be Willump's Journey for Custody, a one-week long event focused around the MRA issue of men's custody rights. In it, male games will rise up and help Willump win back Nunu from some know-it-all girl.

Here is an excerpt from the entry, revolving around the tearful parting:

But I don't want to say goodbye, Nunu cried. But it was too late; the court officials each put an arm around his small helpless hands, and whisked him away to be with Mrs. Willump.

Me... Me want visitation rights, Willump pleaded. But again, it was too late, too, too late. And Mrs. Willump sneered as she stepped outside of the Demacian courtroom and into the daylight, never to be seen by the sobbing gentle giant ever again.

Can you help Willump?! Play games and collect red seals to help overturn the court's decision and get Nunu back from that CONNIVING BITCH!!!

Any League player who marked 'female' when signing up will be barred from playing in the event. The reward for freeing Nunu will be an icon where the icy duo are flying up, controller in hand, smashing through the glass ceiling.

AND, as mentioned before, there is an event after this one; the No More Objectives event will protest objectification by making everyone play on an empty--and even--Summoner's Rift.

The event after that one will be Perfect World: only male League players honor four and above will be able to queue up with females. Princesses just don't know when to quit playing with bad boys smh

And the event after those two will be the removal of every champion above a certain BMI.

Also, the next champion coming to the Rift will be named Anita, priestess of Truth. There will be a contest where male gamers will travel through the 'gamer gate' to collect 'fragments of gamer truth' that will help them defeat the very powerful champion.

"We want to join Thirteen Reasons Why in the growing list of content that starts a conversation," claims Riot Berg. "In terms of how much social change we may enact, we're only at the tip of the iceberg."

Riot's response to the PAX sexism confusion

To help recruit women into gaming, we held PAX workshops for women and non-binary people. We're proud of that and stand with Rioters at PAX. Regarding conversations about this, we need to emphasize that no matter how heated a discussion, we expect Rioters to act with respect.

Idea of the Skin concept: SOUL REAVER KINDRED

Idea of the Skin concept: SOUL REAVER KINDRED

I am an artist. And somehow I had a creative crisis. I needed inspiration and my boyfriend suggested that I get distracted and play a league of legends. It amazed me with diverse heroes, amazing abilities and a fantastic world. Ideas hit my head.
Some characters I liked. I decided to draw art for my boyfriend. The skin of his favorite character's Kindred. I am grateful that he introduced me to this game.

He liked this)) What do you think?

All the best!!!

Why don't you get to play every single champion in custom games?

Posted: 02 Sep 2018 09:26 AM PDT

Pretty self explanatory, just like practice tool: you want to practice a champion but you can't because you haven't got it unlocked. I scrim a lot and it's really annoying not having all champions for draft, we can't pick for each other and always have problems in champion select. Besides, you don't get any exp from custom games + levels.

Idea of the Skin concept: BLOOD MOON CAMILLE

I was inspired by many heroes, including a champion like Camille. I still have a lot of new ideas, which I can not wait to implement))

I scooped up ideas for this work from the game bloodborne and other other games related to the Victorian era.

MagiFelix is rank 1, 4, 6, 7, and 24 in EUW.

Having 5 accounts in challenger in insanely impressive, due to the decay system. Let alone having 4 of the accounts be in the top 10. This guy is a god. Everyone always talks about NA players here so I decided to check the EUW ladder and this guy is more nuts than TF Blade. 3 of his accounts have a 60%+ WR.

Trying to manage clubs is a nightmare

Posted: 02 Sep 2018 07:10 AM PDT

first a bit of context, I'm owner of nunu (and willump) mains club so naturally with the amazing rework we've seen an influx of yeti enthusiasts.

The club has been around for while (made it second day after clubs went live) so there is a fair chance that it may have a few inactive members. Which brings me to my current conundrum: There is absolutely zero way to sort club members other than alphabetically or by role (alphabetical but with roles seperate). If I want to check to see how often the members are active I have to manually check each players profile and match history. What's worse is that I cant even access said profiles by clicking or right clicking on club members in club tabs (like you would in match history or post game lobby). I cant even highlight their names to copy paste. I have to manually type their names into the search.

I'm not even sure if clubs has the functionality to remove players that have been banned, or swapped servers.

Seriously club functionality is in general is so bad, I completely forgot "message of the day" was a thing, if you go to clubs tab in client and click "home" that's where you'll find it tucked away, alone and forgotten. Why even have that tab.

if you've made it this far thank you for humoring my minirant on club functionality, I know i'm hardly the first to point it out but felt like venting a bit.

TL;DR trying to figure out if club members are active is a pain because you have to manually look up each member and check their match history
