Exploring well outside of the play area on Delta Halo, I found this untextured hole that 343 turned into a stone pit. I appreciate the attention to detail for something almost nobody will see anyway.

Improvements I'd Like to See to The Master Chief Collection from a Storytelling Perspective

Posted: 01 Sep 2018 03:48 PM PDT

So, with 343 digging back into The Master Chief Collection to fix things, I wanted to collect fixes to what I think needs to be done for The Master Chief Collection in terms of its campaigns and other storytelling offers. And since 343 seems willing to fix issues with the campaigns in these updates (such as fixing the dual-wielding Elites issue in Halo 2, and the prompt in the QTE at the end of Halo 4), and with them saying they plan to add fairly significant updates to the game, such as with the Custom Games Browser, these suggestions are going to be of the "pie in the sky" variety, where I'm going to make suggestions assuming all can be done. Obviously some of these are probably not possible for 343, but I'm hoping most of it is.

Allow us to download Terminals, Spartan Ops cutscenes, and others

Right now to watch Terminals for Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, Halo 2: Anniversary, and Halo 4, as well as to watch Spartan Ops' cutscenes, you need to stream them from the Halo Channel, which the game takes you to when you find a Terminal or select a Spartan Ops cutscene. This was likely done since The MCC's disk space was fucking gone by this point. Certain content like Halo 4's multiplayer isn't even on the disk, it has to be downloaded. 343 probably thought it would be better to stream these instead of adding to The MCC's already significant file size. However, with Intelligent Delivery, I would like to be given the option to download these and not have to worry about the Internet. Especially since 343 seems to have stopped supporting the Halo Channel. And since the first new update, trying to access Terminals seems to be borked, and they can't be viewed unless you manually navigate to the Halo Channel.

I would also like to see the Terminals and Spartan Ops cutscenes have subtitles added to them. The Halo Channel always had the opportunity to have subtitles, but the videos never had this feature in the past.

Add the epilogue cutscene with the Arbiter and Locke to Halo 2: Anniversary

The prologue and epilogue cutscenes to Halo 2: Anniversary, depicting the Arbiter and Locke discussing the Master Chief and the events of Halo 2, were one of the selling points of Halo 2: Anniversary when the game first came out, promising to offer a hint at the events of the then-upcoming Halo 5: Guardians, offering our first game looks at Locke and the Arbiter since Halo 3. Unfortunately, these cutscenes don't really jive with Halo 5, and at least part of them (or maybe even all) aren't canon anymore in light of what happened in Halo 5's story. For example, the Arbiter and Locke have no idea in Halo 2: Anniversary why the Master Chief is AWOL, but by that point in Halo 5, it was known by Locke and everyone why the Master Chief had done what he did.

Despite this, these are still a part of Halo 2: Anniversary, and should both be viewable in-game. So far, only the prologue cutscene is shown. To see the epilogue cutscene, you need to manually navigate to the Halo Channel. And despite how canon they might not be, I do still like the events of these cutscene, and hope Locke and the Arbiter had at least somewhat of a similar conversation in-canon during the events of Halo 5.

Another Day at the Beach

One of the best treats of the Halo 2: Anniversary Blur cutscenes is that 343 and Blur decided to remaster this short movie, Another Day at the Beach, originally included in the Halo 2 Multiplayer Map Pack. Like the previous videos I've discussed, though, it streams through the Halo Channel. So I would like it to be among the videos to download if this feature ever comes to pass.

Additionally, it would be nice to have the original Halo 2 version included, as well. The other original Halo 2 cutscenes can be seen in the classic view in the campaign, but Another Day at the Beach's original version is unavailable because it isn't part of the campaign.

Add Subtitles to In-Game Dialogue in Halo 2: Anniversary

One of the best things about Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary was that the game added subtitles to the in-game dialogue. It's always been very hard for me to tell what's said during gameplay in any video game, likely since I'm focused on the game and not listening to what's being said in the middle of combat.

So when this didn't happen in Halo 2: Anniversary, I was genuinely very disappointed. I don't know how difficult it would be to add subtitles to the game at this point, but I'd love it.

Fix Mistakes in In-Game Dialogue Subtitles in Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary

While I loved the subtitles added to the in-game dialogue, there were many mistakes made throughout the game, being either misspellings or other mistakes. It'd be nice to have these fixed. Again, I have no idea how difficult it would be to fix these at this point.

Add Credits Back to the Game

I would like the credits added back to each game. It's nice to finish a game and be able to watch the credits. I know most people skip the credits, so I understand them being stripped out, but I'd like them added back in.

One side effect of this is that in Halo: Combat Evolved and Anniversary, this takes out the cutscene that shows 343 Guilty Spark surviving the events of the game. I hope this can be added in even if the credits can't.

Add Halo 4's Multiplayer Cutscene to the Game

This cutscene was only available to view once in the original game, and it was annoying we could never see this again. In this vein, we could also only ever hear Cortana's dialogue regarding the Domain when trying to access Halo 4's Terminals once, or the unique weapon animations the first time the Master Chief picked up a Promethean weapon for the first time. These two issues were resolved in The MCC, actually, and can be heard the first time they occur each level. However, there's no in-game way to view this cutscene. I'd like it to be added with the other downloadable cutscenes, if it happens.

Add the Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary Library to the Game

Since I never owned a Kinect for the 360, I was never able to experience this aspect of the game. I would love for 343 to include it, even if they just have to add the whole unlocked thing and not include the gameplay element of "scanning" for new entries.

Add the Armor Customization for Halo 3 and Halo 4

This is something that's been asked for ad nauseum for years, but I'm just including it in this list for the sake of the in-game armor descriptions that add small details to the lore. I know this has to be a difficult thing to implement at this point, and I believe Grim has confirmed it, but I'm putting it here, anyway.

In Conclusion

Like I said, I have no idea how much of this is feasible for 343. Maybe none of it is. But I know the story and lore community would appreciate these at least being taken into consideration. Thanks.

Also, if I forgot any details regarding the story of the games in The Master Chief Collection, let me know.

343, with the updated MCC collection I'm actually having fun playing halo again. I can't stress this enough.

Posted: 01 Sep 2018 06:22 PM PDT

  1. I play Halo 5 and I get stressed and salty over everything. Every match is life or death. Every loss is soul crushing
  2. I play MCC and I have fun, when I lose horribly I rarely get frustrated. Sure I tell my team they are idiots in my head but the difference is night and day. I RARELY get crushed in Halo 5, in MCC I sometimes lose 50-5. But the difference in my reaction after them is very different. I just que up another match and I'm over it. With H5 I feel like not even playing anymore.
  3. Classic Halo just feels better in my opinion. Their is literally NO proof any of us who don't work at 343 have to prove that going back to classic halo would generate better sales or revive the franchise. We don't have that information. All I can tell you is that the pro players and (and I hate the label of hardcore and casual but...) hardcore and casual players

Anyone else having weird colour issues on enemies after the update?

Posted: 01 Sep 2018 12:06 PM PDT

So... Who chose this game type rotation?

Posted: 01 Sep 2018 06:47 PM PDT

I'm thankful for the update. But... Jesus man

Why is my #1 played game in ranked H2A.. one flag on stonetown? Why am I getting multiflag on Lockout, more than slayer on lockout?

When playing Ranked Halo 3. Why am I getting AR spawn more than BR spawn? Why am I getting one flag on Blackout?

Look. You took away our voting. That's fine. But please adjust the rotation. This is absolutely ridiculous.

I forgot how much I freaking love Halo 4.

Posted: 01 Sep 2018 09:29 AM PDT

I hadn't played any Halo 4 in a pretty long time. Today I've been playing the Halo 4 playlist in MCC, and I forgot how much fun this game is. I just got done playing KOTH on Skyline (my favorite mode on my favorite map) and I felt instantly transported back to my dorm room in 2012. I played the fuck out of Halo 4 back in the day. It's so fun and satisfying. And I forgot how good the maps are too. (There was an issue back in the day where DLC maps didn't come up often enough, but that's not an issue anymore in MCC. The DLC maps are great and I'm glad I can finally play on them consistently.)

Anyway I just wanted to say that Halo 4 rules, and if you haven't played it in a while you should definitely give it a try in MCC.
