Halo: Silent Storm - A Master Chief Story released today.

From Amazon:

"2526. It has been almost a year since humanity engaged in its destructive first contact with a theocratic military alliance of alien races known as the Covenant. Now the hostilities have led to open war, and the United Nations Space Command understands virtually nothing about its new enemy. There are only two certainties—the Covenant is determined to eradicate humanity, and they have the superior technology to do just that. The UNSC's only hope lies with the Spartans: enhanced super-soldiers trained from childhood via a clandestine black-ops project to be living weapons. Their designated commander, Petty Officer John-117, has been assigned to lead the Spartans on a desperate counterattack designed to rock the Covenant back on its heels, and to buy humanity the time it needs to gather intelligence and prepare its defenses.

But not everyone wants the Spartans to succeed. A coalition of human rebel leaders believes an alliance with the Covenant to be its best hope of finally winning independence from the Unified Earth Government. Unpopular Opinion: Halo 5 has a better multiplayer than Halo 3

Let's be real. Most slayer game modes in Halo 3 start you with an AR and a magnum which is god awful. It becomes a battle of who times their melee better. It's just kind of dumb. Halo 5 starts everyone out with what is my favorite weapon in the halo series which is the Halo 5 magnum. This thing is a beast, it takes skill and it isn't just two Spartans running at each other with ARs until they melee each other. Now, I get that competitive modes of Halo 3 offered Battle Rifles but this is only a few of the game modes. Most game modes that you would consider "ranked" game modes still forced the assault rifle on you. I feel like people hate on 343 halos for a few reasons that aren't 343's fault.

  1. They are burnt out on halo. It happens. It's been out for years. New things get our attention
  2. Childhood nostalgia. Nostalgia is a strong thing. People claim up and down modern warfare 2 is the best call of duty and then they play it after a decade and it's just a bunch of people one man army noob tubing. You remember the good parts but not the bad.
  3. Friends. Games can get very boring without friends. Back during Halo 3 you were able to get a ton of people together in custom games to play user created game modes and have a blast. Gaming has just changed and Halo just doesn't have the same community anymore but that should not be correlated with the product 343 puts out. The community should not impact the quality of the game that is made. Maybe the experience itself, but not the product.

All things above, I feel nostalgia, burning out and the fizzled community are why Halo 5 gets a bad rep. Halo 5 is a VERY polished game and that pistol is a VERY FRESH ADDITION to the the Halo series. I can't go back and play Halo games before Halo 5 because they just don't feel as polished. They just aren't as good.

Keep comments polite. This is just an opinion. Don't get worked up. I just prefer Halo 5 because to me it's better and the pistol is the best thing to happen to halo.

343, can we get a Halo-ween event sometime in October like back in 2009 with Halo 3?

Back in the day of Double XP Weekends (which I hope returns in the same communal form someday) we had an Infection weekend. But THIS infection weekend was much more amazing than the rest, as we would be introduced to 2 (or so) spooky maps to play infection on! Just remembering this floods me with the appreciation I have for Halo when the game is stretched to try new and fun things to engage the community. Can we get some awesome limited-time events like this in the future, please? :3

To add Team Doubles on Valentine's, BTB Heavies on Thanksgiving (cuz you know why), and ONLY snow maps on Christmas would be fun playlists!

TL;DR - Having an extra playlist added for just that holiday and also being related to the holiday in some way would be a very fun and memorable experience to have with this community!

Why Didn’t I Play This Sooner?

So growing up a PlayStation fanboy, I didn't really have any nostalgia for the Halo series apart from going over to friends houses and playing Halo 3 and Reach multiplayer. Now I have an Xbox One and downloaded the MCC since it's on Game Pass, and holy shit I love Halo: C.E. so far. I have yet to play the others in the game, but Halo C.E. is one of the best experiences I've had in gaming recently. It's so fun and perfect to control. I regret not getting the chance to play this as a kid

I played H3 BTB on MCC for the first time in 7 years. I have to say I'm amazed that the design aged so well, and looks better than Halo 5.

The textures, the vehicles, the models, everything just looks so much more natural. The map Sandbox is what really blew me away. The lighting was perfect on vehicles and objects. Everything is just so smooth and pleasing to look at.

Every match was amazing. With or without my group of friends. I noticed a lot more people using game chat. And with my group we had legitimate fun.

Whether it was Elephant flipping, crazy shenanigans, or getting serious to clutch the ending of the match. Everything just felt better.

I'm not saying anything is perfect, but goddamn it's one update among many to come out. So I'm happy with MCC now, it's been a long time coming!

An unbiased review of the halo franchise, and the change of hats from bungie to 343 from someone who was oblivious to halo.

So I have been playing halo since the start, love the EU, and have sunk Many hours into learning about the EU. However, my girlfriend prior to meeting me had never played a halo game, or even knew anything about it.

I then decided to play through all the campaings with her co-op so that she could exsperience my favorite game franchise. It started great. She loved halo: CE and even prefered the classic graphics. She reported that the gameplay was fun, story exciting, and the art style and music were a perfect compliment to said story.

On to Halo 2 and it's more of the same. She enjoyed that halo 2 was longer than CE. Halo 2 also introduced her favorite character, the Arbiter. She loved his story of a powerful Covenant general that had failed to protect the sacred ring; installation 04. Then was striped of his title, and in the face of scuicide missions he prevailed and allowed his mind to be opened to the light that was seen as heresy in his upbringing. Overall halo 2 was a great game to her.

Halo 3 was great of course she loved it too, and thought it was a great conclusion to the story, she said that halo 3s flood was her favorite incarnation of the flood. And of course she loved when arbiter came full circle quenching the thirst of his blades with prophets blood. She said halo 3 did the best job of making you feel truly epic and like you were doing something important. Another talking point is the increased emotional story arc involving cortana.

And now on to halo 4 (for simplicitys sake as not to confuse her I am saving the spin offs and prequels [reach, ODST, halo wars] for last) anyway I purposely "forgot" to inform her going into this that halo 4 was not made by bungie, in order to preserve her unbiased opinion. about half way through the second mission she asked me: "what happened, I don't like this. Everything looks weird. And why the fuck am I fighting robots? It doesnt even feel the same." At this point I inform of the truth that the halo game she was playing was made by a compleatly different studio. I ended up backing out of the game and just watching her complete the campaign, on her own. At the end of halo 4 her opinion was even worse than my opinion of it. She just didint really like it, she said she was compleatly confused what about what was going on, and without my exsplaination the presents of the diadact only made it worse for her since he was not explained at all. On a good note she did enjoy the cortana side of it.

Now we come to Halo 5. As we all know split screen was discluded from halo 5 so she had to go in alone. I sit back and watch her start this game. And imideatly shes asking "who tf is that? followed by "AND WHO TF IS THAT??" This repeated Every time a new character was introduced. She was not really able to follow the story and was taken by all the awkward and unatural dialog between characters, that she had not met till now. At about the point where you start to realized that cortana is evil and what she is trying to do, she lost interest she said she had a hard time enjoying her time in game and eventually just stoped playing it. She couldn't even get through the campaign due to how shitty it was she said. She even seemed upset lol.

I just want to say this is not a 343 bash, and I know most people allready know that halo 5 sucks, I just thought it would be interesting to see the reaction from a person who was compleatly unattached to halo, with no nostalgia based bias. Also I am aware that her opinion is not universal to everyone, but this was just her opinion. Keep in mind even though she had never played halo, she is a avid gamer and knows what makes a good game.
