[qT] Scepter Mirage for Raids

Posted: 31 Aug 2018 08:43 AM PDT

I'm making this post because, after the most recent balance changes, a build I've been working on for some time has become really powerful on certain bosses. Usually I'd just make a benchmark video to show the potential of a build and leave it at that but this one doesn't show it's full potential in that setting and actually raises a few questions that I rather explain here, with the hope it will make people understand it a bit better.

Why Scepter? Scepter on it's own doesn't dash out much damage, in fact you only get around 17k DPS as your end number on the golem. What makes it really powerful is that it can inflict over 40 average confusion, thus making it immensely powerful on raid bosses such as Soulless Horror and even Cairn.(Image credit to /u/xyonon & CnD, I'd recommend reading their posts to anyone interested in more Mirage related stuff.)

How to read the DPS. Certainly on Soulless Horror and to some extent on Cairn, the Area stats of Arc DPS doesn't properly showcase the damage that is put out through confusion. To see a more accurate number, enable the 'Personal Stats' window in Arc DPS as this does show a more accurate estimate of the numbers you're putting out. Here an example of what that difference could look like.

How to play it.

The Gear/Traits

The Rotation (Please note that I was using a different Sigil at the time of recording this video, the correct Sigil you should use for now is 'Geomancy' instead of 'Mischief')

Example Gameplay on Soulless Horror I want to add a disclaimer to this video as it's nowhere near an optimal run. Because of a family member passing I haven't had much time for guild raids thus the following gameplay video is a quick recording I made from a LFG PUG. Early next week I'll be able to release some POV's from an actual guild run. In other words, what you're about to see is not even the full potential.

Gameplay

To close this post. If you have any questions, feel free to ask them. I already answered some in my rotation video so be sure to check if it's asked there too. Besides that I am really looking forward to what others can do with this build, my hardest hitting number with confusion so far is: 57400, where I had over 70 confusion inflicted on her at once. Looking for challengers to break it ;p.

Tour of HoT, Euro Style: Sunday 2nd of September 1pm Server Time EU

Posted: 31 Aug 2018 12:23 PM PDT

Sunday starting at 1pm Server Time at Shipwreck Peak in Verdant Brink on the EU Server is the time and place!

This Run will cover and open all of Verdant Brink, Auric Basin, Tangled Depths and the non-Meta portion of Dragon Stand. This is moderately paced, helpful and I try very hard not to leave anyone behind.

What you need: Basic Glide - that is it!

What I'll bring: Food, Utility and Hero Banner Buffs through the whole day.

What you'll get:

All Waypoints opened

360 Hero Points (Basic Glide gets you 350)

50+ MPs (45+ with basic glide) - Communes, Strongboxes and Achievements

Some achievements like Disco Cave Dancer and Gold Chicken - a bit of AP there ;)

Quite a few hard to find or reach Vistas and PoI - not full map completion but we get a lot of them.

Some events we cross

Pretty good XP and Loot zerg along the way

It is a full day if you stay for the whole thing, about 7-8 hours including regularly scheduled breaks, but you're free to stay for what you can. After the main run if there's interest I'll circle back for Overseer, Vinetooth Prime, Potoni the Massive and Skelk Regurgitant with their related events.

Starts at 1pm Server Time but will be on LFG around 12:30pm Server Time. I'll try and have the squad up at or around 12:15 Server Time and you can whisper me for an invite. You can contact me at Trixi Morrigna or Morrigna.1704.

And this is a free service, tips are absolutely not required.

The game has never been better and still I play less [Future]?

Posted: 31 Aug 2018 09:13 AM PDT

Do not get me wrong, i really believe that GW2 is at its peak in terms of quality / gameplay but even tho game is at his best I feel ignored as an active player. If you are a new Player u have 10.000 things do, personal story, lw2,lw3,ls4 expansions, fractals, gear, dungeons, metas, achievements, gear, fashion wars, everything. A new player has the best game ever but as an active Player, I miss stuff to do.

Yes, it is hard, as a game company to keep the veterans happy, we play the new episode for few days and that is it but I am not happy with the direction of anet development, they should focus more on good repeatable endgame content rather then one time only new maps. I want to dive into the ls3 and ls4 format because I feel like it is a missed opportunity.

At first I enjoyed to get a new map every episode, they were fresh, took us to a different habitation in ls3 and they gave us something unique. I feel like the Art team is putting a lot of effort into the map and they look amazing but In retro respective I played the map "once" and in term of gameplay they gave us very little. I want to summarize what I can remember; note quality of life updates like "salavage all" are not included, because it is a different team.

  1. Bloodstone Fen– flying abilities
  2. Ember Bay – Jumping puzzle
  3. Bitterfrost Frontier – winterberry farm for people who actually need gear
  4. Lake Doric – Leather farm
  5. Draconis Mons - Oakheart's essence
  6. Siren's Landing – Backpack
  7. Domain of Istan – Istan Farm
  8. Sandswept Isles – x
  9. Domain of Kourna – New Mount and lake cluster meta

That´s all, I wont go back to map [1,2,3,4,5,6,8,9] why should I? I am not the kind of player who repeats a story mission twice, who is looking at a beautifull scenerie, the only reason to return is because of repeatable content / rewards. So here are some Ideas why I personal would return to any of the maps, to show what maybe a solution for new maps could be.

  1. Bloodstone Fen if vale guard „meta" is handled like a world boss – Power him up, increase the flat gold reward and there is a tiny chance of a special item.
  2. Ember Bay – Same as VG, Power Sloth up that he becomes an actually open world boss raid, Flat gold reward and a chance of a unique item like a rare weapon or tradeable rare mini
  3. Bitterfrost Frontier – x
  4. Lake Doric – pretty healthy
  5. Draconis Mons – No idea
  6. Siren's Landing – A map meta with the gods, if all shrines are powered up there is a final boss
  7. Domain of Istan – has istan farm nothing to add
  8. Sandswept Isles – No idea
  9. Domain of Kourna revamp the meta that it feels like a meta with unique rewards

Damn this gonna be a long Post but in a quick summary until now, I would rather have a reason to return to an area then to have a onetime only play every 3 month. Collecting Mini´s isnt on my I need to do list.

I miss repeatable Content.

Bounty System:

They dropped the ball on the bounty system, the bounty system could actually give players a lot of reason to go back to PoF maps or LS4 but it needs a rework and change in rewards for that to ever happen. However, I feel like they should invest the time and make the system more fun and rewarding.

Fractals + Raid:

A raid every 3rd episode is way to less. I know that people tend to say that the raid population is too small to support it, but the current pace of new wings is not sustainable. A repeatable CM is still missing and they have not realy introduced a new system to make raids more accessible – automatic raid finder / easy mode. I am not sure if a Fractal each 2nd episode is enough. If there is enough to do outside of fractals then I would say, maybe yes?, but since there is a lake of repeatable outside of the game, it might not be enough. Nevertheless, heads off to the fractal team, they have really done a great job in the last year with reworks, new fractals and the new fractal account system. Great job. WvsW + SPVP:

I cant talk about it since I haven't played it in ages but I know that this part of the community wants and needs more attention gameplay wise.

Dungeon rework?!(okay no)

I miss challenging and rewarding Metas

It would be so fucking amazing if a new episode would introduce a new hard open world boss but for some reason anet aboned the ship after the chack garent nerf.

Remember the time TEQ got a revamp? Remember the time Community's organised triple trouble and everyone needed to play together and deal good amount of dps?

The old Game director said once: We do not want that old Content gets boring because of power creep) – I wish they would live up to this statement (if it were even still their philosophy) because I like the fact that old content wont be absolote with new stuff introduced.

TEQ

New Balance on TEQ(More health / Boon strip / More damage), would make the fight more intressting again.

TTT

More life on Triple Trouble – new rewards (like a green stinky infusion) – higher health on husks Let´s face it , right now you can simply "afk" button spam one and the event wouldn't be in danger to fail, it doesn't matter if you play at your best or simple brain afk and eat while doing TEQ/TT is just fine.

maybe add a token system, a new rare aura and reblance them just a bit. It will keep the content in a good place with just a little bit of attention

More life is a simple solution ( not saying it's the best) but it would compensate for a lot of the power creep what happened in the past years and old content would again more tense, there is needed more team play + the rewards could get just a tiny bit better.

I miss "farming Events for 2 week or weekend events"

Like the attack on LA where we fought against Scarlet. Or the Invasion of Karkas – Marionette, why can't an EVENT come back for a period of 2 weeks? Not everything must make sense lore wise. I would give a rats ass if scarlett once again attacks LA – if its so important for ANET / player base make a special instance – A new Event instance of the map or a new map in the mists. This new map would be a rotating map, where people know this instance is a "time travel" machine and we going to play old Events and maybe new once for 2 weeks before the mists gets instable and a new map/event is placed into it.

I would like them to invest more time in special weekend events; the last one with the crown pavilion was great, even tho it lacked in game communication and progress.

Conclusion

A-nets updates are great, they have a high quality, they introduce awesome QQL changes even tho build templates are still missing. But a one time only "episode" is in my perspective the wrong way to keep devolping the future LS episodes

Dungeons that are locked behind chain map events

Posted: 31 Aug 2018 07:06 AM PDT

Why is this still a thing ? Dungeons are already dead as it is, why must we kill them even more by locking them behind map meta events?

Example: Citadel of Flame, Ruin of Arah etc.

I'm fine with doing the meta (if it is soloable because I play during US midnight time). The main issue is when one of the chains failed before I got there and I have to wait for a random amount of time (last time it was an hour) for it to reset again.

Finishing up all Black Lion Wardrobe Unlocks with Anniversary Sale- A Step by Step Guide

Posted: 31 Aug 2018 01:21 AM PDT

Hello all, I am happy to say that I completed my long term goal that took well over a year of finishing all the wardrobe unlocks and I wanted to take some time to try to write a guide and provide some data on how I approached this. I don't know if there is anyone else out there ambitious enough to do this, but I will try my best to provide a roadmap in the most cost efficient manner possible.

First off, let me say it took a lot of planning, farming and preparation with the anniversary sale coming to achieve this. Second, some tools like the Wardrobe Unlock Analyser were invaluable in helping me calculate weapon costs and keeping track of the necessary unlocks. I will not get into how to do the majority of unlocks, but instead focus on the last leg of unlocking everything. All the other unlockable items that take farmable currency like laurels, karma, badges of honor, and crafting/festival farming etc. should be done on your own time and pace as a player if you are serious on maximizing value for your unlocks.

After finishing up all of the general unlocks mentioned above I roughly had 465 unlocks remaining . Over the course of a year before the anniversary sale, I made a goal to push to try to knock that down to the lowest possible number intending to buy a bunch of discounted keys and then finish the job. I needed to buy black lion collection weapons which were the bulk of the unlocks, so I focused on scooping up as many as I could off the TP and finishing others through Black Lion ticket/chest rotations. In total, I spent a total of 4.5k filling buy orders for weapons and 6k worth of Black Lion Tickets (150 tickets used at avg of 40/ticket). Some returning events like the Four Winds festival also gave me an opportunity to finish off skins like Sovereign Weapons and some gemstore promotions during events like SAB and Halloween/Wintersday allowed me to pick up gemstore items (minis, hats) for relatively cheap. I kept up routine things like weekly keyfarming (I burned all my keys) and mapfarming (mostly Istan for 6 months) to cover the costs and build up capital for the project. The first problem lied in finding the proper TP gold value to buy things (weapons, miniatures, finishers, dyes) up to before stopping.

To solve this, I used the wardrobe unlock Analyse function. It tells you the amount of gold needed to spend to unlock everything up to a certain value. By typing in one gold increments, you are able to generate a function which shows the unlock cost rising with the gold value. You can then find the slope of the function using a spreadsheet and stop at the point where the slope equals 0. If not, you can just keep typing in 1 gold increments until you find the spot where the change in cost is minimum or 0. In calculus, this is similar to the concept of the first derivative and critical points. For me, I got two critical points at 72 and 92g. I chose the 72g point as the stopping point for reasons I will get into later.

So I bought everything up to 72g through a a combination of buy and sell orders and support from friends. I continued the grind until I hit 344 unlocks (344 before, 324 with patch this Tuesday after waiting it out). With August approaching, I needed to do two things- procure the proper amount of gems before they spiked and estimate the number of black lion keys I needed to buy to finish up all the remaining unlocks without going crazy overboard. To do this, I tried devising a formula to estimate the amount of keys needed. Here was my rough formula:

3x/25 + x/15 = 344 where x is the number of BL keys

From what I gathered watching youtube vids of mass unlocks, the drop rate for unlocks was roughly between 12 and 16% per 25 keys. So assuming the worst case RNG I put myself at an average of 3 unlocks per 25 keys. The x/15 part comes from statuettes, in which 1 is averaged per key and 15 equals 1 wardrobe unlock. Yes, it could be more statuettes and more unlocks per key, but this was a rough estimate and again I assumed worst case. By no means was this formula accurate. Most likely I knew I would be overshooting, but I solved for x and got 1843 keys. I then divided this number by 25 and multiplied by 1470 gems to get 108, 780 gems. I made 11 purchases then for 9999 gems. Altogether, that cost came out to be 29853g. Add that with the 10.5k gold cost mentioned earlier and 3k gold in gems spent over that period on gemstore skin sales and the total was 43367g.

I waited until the next rotation this Tuesday and bought some of the Gallant and Scientific skins costing an addtional 350g for 43717g knocking the total number down now to 324. Solving for x now equaled 1736. With my keys in hand (put the extra ones in the bank), I was ready for the moment of truth. Here is the video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nmutGoqAAao&feature=youtu.be

Ok time for some data:

BL Keys used: 1529 out of 1736, (1875 total bought with sale, excess put away in bank) Avg Cost/Key: 15.9g/key Unlocks needed: 324, 287 from Wep+ Wardrobe and 37 from Armor BL Keys it actually took to reach goal: 1415 but I opened 1529 in video without realizing, sorry was very sleepy Margin of error: +321 keys lol, +460 if you count the total keys I bought on sale, my extra unlocks and keys will go in bank for future

Gold value of everything unlocked: 34065g of all TP sellable items+ 58800 gems= 50065g Avg Unlock value per key: 50065/1415= 35.4g

Rewards

1529 Brown Springer Kits- 1560g 111 Miniature Claim Tickets 156 Self Style Hair Kits 217 Revive Orbs 170 Tele to Friends 184 Upgrade Extractor 63 Junk Coins-63g 151 Istan Bags- 112g 535 Dye Kits- 243g 1080 Transmutation Charges 63 Lockbreaker Kits 157 Toy Eggs- 97g 46 Metabolic Primers, 54 Utility Primers-
214 Black Lion Ticket Scraps, 22 Tickets- 1720g (Collection rewards excluded) 5 Unopened Endless Mystery Tonics- 115g 56 Tyrian Exchange Vouchers 272 Heavy Crafting Bags, 332 Large Crafting Bags- 172g 3 Elder Wood, 1 Iron Ore, 1 Orrian Truffle Node- 360g 1 Black Lion Exclusives Chest- 790g 4 Glyphs of the Leatherworker- 680g 2 Glyphs of the Tailor- 238g 21 Scientific Weapon Skins- 1268g 73 Gallant Weapon Skins- 1365g
Estimated Total: 8783g Percentage of Gold Recovered: 8783/29853g= 29.4% return (Gemstore items not included) Recovery Rate of Grand Total: 8783/43717g= 20.1%

Ok, now for some various talking points starting first with the process:

This took a lot of time to prepare and involved watching gemstore prices like a hawk. Gems had to be bought the month before August when they spiked. I managed to do some installments of 9999gems for 2600g but missed out and bit the bullet on some payments where I payed significantly higher during August. Had I watched the gemstore more carefully I would have been able to shave an additional 1 to 2k gold off the cost of keys. There was room for improvement here but nonetheless, this was the best time to buy BL keys as the discount was the deepest which covered for the extra gold payment costs.

Patience putting in buy orders for black lion weapon skins. Sometimes it can take months to fill. If you find difficulty, try asking some of your friends to help you out and negotiate fair prices.

Black lion tickets were a vital part of cutting down the number of unlocks. I spent a year putting up buy orders for cheap weapons and amassing as many Black Lion tickets as I could to burn for skins. This meant weekly keyfarms and getting ticket scraps while waiting for patches where they rotated common and uncommon black lion weapons and sets off the tickets. Every time a new weapon set was also introduced, I would scoop it up to increase my ticket count. Don't also forget there are vendors in the vault in Lion's Arch which also have existing weapon sets for purchase. Check back there often to see if the rotations changed. I burned 150 BL tickets this way or approximately 6k gold.

Be sure to check your miniature claim tickets to pick up minis that are included in unlocks. Also consider doing the miniature collections for a few hundred gold, 10 AP and some keys but more importantly the tickets for future uses. Personally I feel more can be done with these tickets to add a little bit value to them such as heavier inclusion of more gem store minis but they are still nice to have.

I mentioned I bought everything up to 72g. That does not just mean weapons, dyes, minis only. Gemstore promotions in the Black Lion TP were also included. Things like 200 gem hats, 3 pack of miniatures, and anything else with an average of 250gems or less which popped up on rotation. Had miniatures and mail carriers on sale popped up this year at 250 gems or less I would have gotten those too. However with the introduction of black lion vouchers this August, I was surprised pleasantly and picked up a 10 pack of the glider and backpack/glider combos. These definitely helped in reducing the number of unlocks.

I had two unlock stopping points on the analyser, but I went with the first one. The reason is simple. As you attempt to gain more unlocks through Black Lion keys, you will always recoup a percentage, even if it is small, of your gold back by unlocking whereas by committing to buying weapon skins straight up you get zero of your gold back consuming it. This is much more noticable as you use the analyser to look at the increasing costs. Had I gone up to 92g, I would have had to spend an additional 7.1k to get 85 unlocks with 0 gold back. That same amount of gold could have netted roughly 26k gems which would have allowed for 425 keys which would more than likely produce over 85 unlocks and a decent percentage of gold recouped even if unsuccessful. So then why not just unlock everything through keys then? Because then the opposite is true and you would miss out on cheaper and easier to obtain skins which drop in price compared to unlocking with keys that change with every rotation. Prices of skins do change with time. It is important that as a player you find that right sweet spot where unlocking your keys has great value. You can see above my average unlock value per key is more than double that of the average cost per key. Players have different unlock curves with different unlock points. Do not overdo one method and find the right balance.

Opening and results:

Clear your inventory before opening and organize loot. I am guilty of not doing these things.

Pay attention as you go along, as you will using your statuettes to buy wardrobe unlocks. I stopped at every 600 statuettes to buy 40 unlocks.

Armor and weapon unlocks should be used always before wardrobe unlocks once you are done. You will obtain a lot more wardrobe unlocks than the other two and you want to ensure they unlock other stuff like carriers, finishers, dyes and minis. I had 324, 287 from Wep+ Wardrobe and 37 from Armor. This was my prime mistake, as I was so focused on hitting the 324 spot total I went overboard on key openings by 124. Instead I should have looked at the amount of weapon and wardrobe unlocks I needed at 287 and stop there. My margin of error was large and I wish I could have done this part better.

I overshot the amount of keys I needed by a lot. My estimated formula was crude and assumed the worst case scenario. I was averaging well over one statuette per key with a few 25 procs here and there and more than 3 unlocks per set of 25, close to 5 out of 25 at some times. RNG was very good to me even though I grossly overshot and this does make me happy. I knew this would happen though so I am not surprised. Correcting my formula should then be 0.22x= number of unlocks instead of 0.1867x which I used.

Rewards:

No permanent contract. Feelsbadman. If one did drop though, it would change the gold recovery percentage by a lot. A lot of other cool stuff though, won't complain.

Gem rates are highly inflated right now, adding these items to the reward value would skew results. Some items were meaningless in use since I had a perma contract for it.

Black lion collection ticket rewards were not included. However, they do increase the amount of gold I recovered by an extra 5 to 6k making it close to 50% of an actual recovery compared to gold spent for gems. But if I included the gold and tickets I spent in the year building up to it then the recovery rate becomes 8783/43717g=20%. Can be interpreted different ways, I leave it up to you.

Some items that were unlocked have no definitive price, like lionguard weapons and immortal weapons even though they are hard to obtain.

If I hold onto some of these skins, glyphs and nodes for long term, I could stand to gain back a little bit more. Tonics as well, they will soon be a novelty item.

I was itching to get this over with and almost opened my keys before the patch change. As tempting as the Festival Chests were to some with a shot at chak egg sacs and other goodies I was not satisfied with the RNG rewards from the guaranteed chest. Instead I opted to hold out until the next update and take my chances. I'm ok with getting Springer Kit minis instead of gambling for a super rare item. If patience is your virtue, you can reduce your unlocks even further than I did and pick something with a guaranteed item that gives you a good amount of liquid gold. I would not do a mass unlock with a non gold guaranteed item like lockbreaker kits for example.

Conclusion:

If you are still reading this and have not given up on me, thank you and bless your soul. If you want to try this, I wish you the best of luck and recommend saving up for the next anniversary sale and planning accordingly. When I set out to do this, I wanted to primarily debunk the notion some streamers and players had that keys were a scam, that nothing good would come out of themand that wardrobe unlocks had little to no value. I could sense the frustration of players when they unlocked an item that had next to little value and had given up entirely on chests. I wanted to show that Black lion keys are of value, but only if you as a player are willing to put in the time, effort, and hopefully the gold it takes to clear the board of the low value items. Once you do that key opening becomes much more enjoyable. I hope this guide does prove that and shows there is a reasonable cost efficient process to getting high value items you want. Special thanks to the friends in TS who gave good advice and to the people who lead farm trains in Istan which helped raise the gold to make this happen.

99% of players hate this build. Are you insane enough?

Please hit me with your most sustainy, egoistic, unproductive, useless tank build out there. Yes, I'm talking giving up 1000 power for 10 vitality. I'm talking 200% endurance regeneration spamming evasion rolls and 50% of the time spent behind a shield not attakcking. I'm making one exeption: No ivisibility. The things have to see you, have to hit you. Spotlights on!
