Fallout - Cigarettes are seriously undervalued in the post-war economy.

Cigarettes are seriously undervalued in the post-war economy.

Posted: 06 Sep 2018 11:34 PM PDT

Just imagine how valuable a pack of cigarettes would be 200 years after The Great War. They would practically be priceless. You could walk up to Trashcan Carla with a pack of cigarettes and purchase everything, plus the pack brahmin. You could almost buy the entire town of Goodneighbor. If people found out you had an unopened pack of cigarettes in 2287, they would never stop trying to find you and rob you. But, somehow cigarettes sell for less than what they do now when you can find them anywhere. You can find a whole carton of them and it's almost more worthwhile to just scrap them in you workbench.

Cheers fallout. The name John Caleb Bradberton is pretty clever.

Posted: 07 Sep 2018 02:15 PM PDT

I just noticed this but John Caleb Bradberton(the maker of nuka cola) is a mixture of the original soda inventors. It's a mixture of Coca Cola creator John Pemberton, and Pepsi Cola creator Caleb Bradham. So if you take the John and the second half of the last name from coca cola's creator and the caleb and first half of the last name of pepsi's creator you get John Caleb Bradberton. Maybe this was obvious to others but I just realized this today.

West Virginia’s “New River Gorge Bridge” celebrates the day it was built annually, in October 22nd every year.

Posted: 07 Sep 2018 06:58 AM PDT

The Bridge was built on October 22nd, 1977. Coincidentally, the bombs dropped on October 23rd, 2077. So we will likely see the remains of the bridges celebration of its 100th year.

An interesting discovery. Not sure if anyone else has covered this, or even noticed it. Cool, non-the-less.

Megaton in Fallout 3 was Great in My Opinion!

Posted: 07 Sep 2018 08:36 AM PDT

I am just wondering what peoples perspective on this town are nowadays?

I have read many posts throughout reddit and various other forums and found that many people disliked the town Megaton primarily due to the illogical idea of building a town around an unexploded nuke, but from my perspective the town was symbolic in several ways.

Why Megaton is great and it's existence made sense from my perspective (in-game explanation may or may not be part of my argument):

  1. Post-WWII there was a strong fascination (near fanatical) with nuclear weapons and power in both real life and in-game. This extreme interest is still present post-apocalypse due to the presence of the retro-futuristic setting pre-apocalypse (Nuka-Cola / the vehicles are nuclear powered / etc).
  2. The presence of the bomb actually helped foster a sense of safety in two primary ways first being that it acted as a deterrence to many due to the sheer power of the nuke. This deterrence works both towards those outsiders who have nefarious designs and those who live within who know to keep themselves limited in their unlawful and potentially destructive acts lest they accidentally blow themselves up alongside the town.
  3. The quest to blow up Megaton while seemingly exaggerated in how extreme Tenpenny and Burke go to in order to appease to their own vanity can be argued to be an extreme metaphor for actual human vanity. Tenpenny found the existence of Megaton to be a blight on the land and as a result got Burke to look for a way of making it disappear. Many neighbors in real life feuds end up committing arson or murder due to similar issues of vanity in regards to the state of each others properties and what they perceive as proper. Examples of this in real life are near countless (watch the TV show Fear Thy Neighbor if you want examples).
  4. The towns tiered design around the bomb and its rusted metal strewn existence is a major aiding factor in fostering the image of Fallout 3's Post-Apocalyptic land. It is usually the first place visited that has friendly life outside of Vault 101 and is a great example of how far the world has fallen for the player.

What is going on in Vault 87?!?

Posted: 07 Sep 2018 07:44 AM PDT

So, I'm getting between 100-144 fps in Fallout but the game is quite unplayable.

Posted: 07 Sep 2018 04:56 AM PDT

Basically, when in a dialogue the Facial animations finish way earlier than the audio itself and .. I'm not sure how to put it, but I think animations in general seem sped up. At least I'm sure my character's are. Does anyone have this problem? Is there a fix , or should I try to cap the fps? Right now I'm capped at 144 fps, but I only reach it when inside buildings. I really don't know what to do

Edit: Thank you all for your help, it seems I'll have to cap the frames to 60 fps. Really appreciated the help, you are awesome

Coming from a bit of a binge of playing 4, I forgot just how versatile NV shotguns and explosives are.

Posted: 07 Sep 2018 08:49 AM PDT

Decided to roll a shotgun/explosives char for a NV replay and I've forgotten just how handy they both are since 4 neutered them quite badly. Shotguns alone have a variety of shells for any situation, just a simple ammo switch and you can easily handle robots, long range targets, or just shred up some wildlife. The Shotguns themselves are great too, with a modded Hunting Shotgun being very great at even medium range buckshot shooting.

Explosives also felt extremely neutered in 4 coming from NV. The grenade rifle alone is a relatively lightweight handy thing with ammo types that even sacrifice blast radius for higher damage, or even timed fuses to bounce them around corners. Plus the pulse ammo means you can easily take out squads of bots, or blast them point blank with hardly any damage to you unless you have Power Armor on. Not to mention things like the Grenade Machinegun or the Red Glare for when you really need to kill a horde right this instant.

Kinda dissapointed that there is no crazy companion in fallout 4.

Posted: 07 Sep 2018 04:15 AM PDT

I mean like someone who loves it when you eat people, kill non-hostles, steal, pickpocket, and are extreamly aggressive or funny in diologe. Of course I don't know much on Gage in nuka world but I don't think he works like that.

I want a psycho killer as a companion, just imagine all the diolog between your character and them. Kinda like krieg from borderlands 2 but in fallout 4.

Plus it would be funny hearing them yell crazy shit in combat.

Played the Original Fallout Game for the First Time

Posted: 07 Sep 2018 11:25 AM PDT

I finally had the means to build a PC and decided I would go back and play through the entire series in order starting with the original game.

Having played through the first game now I have to say it should be criminal for anyone to jump into the franchise starting with for instance FO3 like I did. There is so much back story you get in the original game which, yes, you could learn from browsing the Wikia but it's different experiencing it from the game.

I would also say the original Fallout posed a much greater challenge than any of the other games I have played. There are so many puzzles and challenges you face and are given no hint on how to solve them unlike later games with bethesda where you are guided through the quest by your pip boy and other game mechanics.

Don't get me wrong, I love the games Bethesda has released, it's what got me into FO in the first place. I look forward to being able to mod the game now with some quality of life and immersion mods. I have a better appreciation for them now and the detail that Bethesda goes through to keep the games lore friendly and the references to prevuous games that they make.

Looking forward to starting FO2!

Favourite feature from each Fallout game?

Posted: 07 Sep 2018 03:21 PM PDT

Bethesda only wants songs that are relevant to the nuclear apocalypse , is that a good or bad thing in you'r opinion?

Posted: 07 Sep 2018 12:25 PM PDT

its a bit sad in my opinion because there's a lot of good songs out there. I just hope 76 takes this liberally so we can get songs like Mr sandman and beginning to see the light.

If I kill someone in a settlement will the whole settlement know?

Posted: 07 Sep 2018 02:22 PM PDT

I'm making a serial killer build and want to know in case I have to build walls to keep them from escaping. I want to kill settlers stealthfully but want to know in case all of them are alerted anyway even if I do it stealthfully.

Am i the only one who thinks that the fully modded laser rifle is one of the best guns in the game? (Fallout: New Vegas)

Posted: 07 Sep 2018 02:07 PM PDT

The beam splitter increases the damage and critical chance and the scope makes it easy to snipe, also it has literally no recoil. You might be thinking the beam splitter actually splits the beam but it actually does not, which is what makes it so good. You just fire it a few times on a deathclaw from a distance and you kill it. Remember this is a sniper not a close quarters gun.

An Aftermath to New Vegas

Posted: 07 Sep 2018 01:43 PM PDT

Context: https://www.reddit.com/r/Fallout/comments/9cie7y/now_im_a_broken_man_broken_by_a_disease_of_the/?st=JLSBLPUZ&sh=daaafeac

Life goes on, but the scars of war are still visible in the Mojave. Brotherhood extremists wiped out a Followers Outpost because one of their members wanted to join them. They did some good wiping out the Van Graffs, but McNamarra has no control over the men under him. They can no longer be reasoned with. Elijah's legacy hasn't yet left the minds of my ex comrades. The Courier couldn't change that, and I don't think those nuts will change.

At least the NCR won the Dam, and Caesar is dead. Lanius was convinced not to fight the Courier, Doc Mitchell seemed to have saved one excellent diplomat. Lanius isn't done being a warrior though, and large portions of the Legion still follows him. The slaves are in open rebellion though. Waves of people cross the Colorado every day trying to escape the collapse of Rome. It's like an apocalypse in the Mojave. I try to help who I can, but not everyone in the NCR is so welcoming. Xenophobia has run rampant, and even NCR officers are ordering blanket executions. No one in the Shady Sands knows what to do.

Vegas is under direct rule from Shady Sands. The securitrons just stopped functioning after the Courier left the Lucky 38, and the Families were fighting in the streets when the NCR tried to reign in Sin City. The Kings managed to strike a deal with the NCR in exchange for autonomy in Freeside. The strip is a ruined mess after the gangs fought for dominance of a dead city. With the Legion gone, no one in the Mojave has a common goal. The NCR has tried everything to secure power lines from the Dam to its core territory, but no one wants to pay taxes for it. People here are short sighted and refuse to see that the NCR can help them. Kimball can't stop the hatred of the NCR out here. The clean water the Dam could produce can't be transported anywhere safely. It would seem as though the Republic has become incapable of controlling anything it has gained. It's a war zone here, and escaping it has become my only priority. This stretch of arid wasteland is no longer suitable for anyone to live. I'll look around for anyone that needs protection, and we'll head West. Nothing can be done to save the Mojave, and me staying here will only get me killed. I will walk on, and find the peace I seek somewhere else I suppose.

What's the deal with this "Vault 77" stencil thing in the basement of Hardware Town (FO4)?

Posted: 07 Sep 2018 03:02 PM PDT

I've searched around and haven't seen any other mention of it. I found this in the basement of Hardware Town. Can't pick it up or interact with it. I have a lot of mods installed, but I'm not sure which one would have added this or why: https://imgur.com/a/p1MQH64

Designing a Fallout cocktail menu - lmk how you would keep and promote the lore

Posted: 07 Sep 2018 01:16 PM PDT

Hi all, I am penning a special cocktail menu for my speakeasy themed cocktail bar....and I want to time it with the launch of fallout 76.

I have already been looking into this year for over a year and have some technical thoughts on how to achieve what I need. Particularly with things like bio luminescence and trying to replicate i residents from the games.

My question to you lovely lot is what you all believe are absolute must haves for this sort of thing. I am talking character and place references for names, integral ingredients, marketing and design, drinking vessels, food pairings, even how you would present the drinks on menu (though I will likely be using the points system fallout already uses). And anything lore friendly that you - as a fan - would really want to see. Also worth noting that if this goes well then I would be looking to enter it into industry competitions, I want to smash it out the park

Tl;dr - I am writing a menu based on fallout, help me by telling me all the lore friendly stuff that your inner fallout geek would love
