And after 64 hours, I finally fire one off from the spaghetti bowl :')

First time making a train station this large. Not the best throughput, but so satisfying.

Every night in my dreams..

Posted: 04 Sep 2018 05:08 AM PDT

So, let me start with a resounding fuck this game.

I haven't slept more than 6 hours over 3 days, I am currently overdosing on caffeine and nicotine.

I spaced out a mildly-important meeting today and have less idea of what's going on at work than my nonexistent plans for a functional coal bus.

I've restarted 2 times because I realize my deficiencies are too deep and just scrap the whole design.

Steam power? Needs coal. Needs a coal bus. Also needs water, and I have a pond.

All that leading to my actual question, are ponds a finite resource?

EDIT: For those asking; I haven't checked the wikia for two reasons. Blocked at work, and I really don't want the meta strategies. While I hate my screw-ups, I also don't want to just know how to set everything up.

I need to know how to get void belts.

Posted: 04 Sep 2018 08:09 PM PDT

So I see quite often when people are testing out stuff from new patches that they have these belts that can produce a fully compressed belt of whatever they want out of thin air and also a void belt that just simply gets rid of anything that goes into it. I really need this to test out builds without having to actually set up a whole system to produce something to test production. Is this already in the game and can be used when in cheat mode? Or is there a mod I can get that can do this. (important note: I need to use this alongside mods such as AngleBobs)

All the stories of crippling Factorio addiction that are posted here. Hyperbole, or actual truth?

Total Darkness Mod?

Posted: 03 Sep 2018 09:17 PM PDT

Are there any mods out there that make it totally dark all the time with the only light coming from your flashlight, lamps furnaces etc?

I mean, darker than current night, like horror game dark.

Kind of surprised I couldn't find one, but I think it'd be an interesting way to play the game, makes lamps a lot more important. Aliens coming out of true darkness would be cool too.

More thoughts:

  • Night Vision research would probably have to be disabled or set to cost 1,000 of all sciences to make it late game tech
  • Hardest part seems to be just making the game dark enough at night?
  • Could be combined with Light Cone mod.
  • There was also this other mod I remember seeing where the map is modified to have long narrow caves but I can't seem to find it. The starting area is a large circle, then there's long winding branching corridors from there. Doesn't seem to be the caves mod. Can't find it anywhere. Anyways, it might be be cool to play with that mod too.

Another Edit:

So when I say dark I mean, real dark. Like in this screenshot

notice how you don't see anything outside of the flashlight cone? I'm looking for that. If it's not lit up, you see nothing. All that should be visible is what's in range of your flashlight, any lamps you've put down and the eerie glow from your smelters.

I just think that'd be a cool way to play.

XXX Delivers! See their post about it here: https://www.reddit.com/r/factorio/comments/9csbq4/total_darkness_mod/e5e047r/

Be warned, it is really dark!

You'll always wish you had more lamps

Filtered trains without filter inserter/belt

Posted: 04 Sep 2018 05:49 PM PDT

For some users it is useless, but Ihave just discovered it after almost 200hrs •_•. A good way for not having to use filtered inserters on unloading stations (which in large scales consumes more resources and power) is to apply filters to the wagon slots, so the train will never be filled with unwanted materials.

I changed my settings to a dedicated button, but I think you have to shift+wheel click on the wagon invetontory in order to apply the filter (then you can copy/paste with shift). It is costless in power and resources ;)

I there a mod, which decreases the size of the blue icons on the assemblers so I can see what I try to build there.
