/r/Civ Weekly Questions Thread - September 03, 2018

Posted: 03 Sep 2018 03:15 AM PDT

Greetings r/Civ.

Welcome to the Weekly Questions thread. Got any questions you've been keeping in your chest? Need some advice from more seasoned players? Conversely, do you have in-game knowledge that might help your peers out? Then come and post in this thread. Don't be afraid to ask. Post it here no matter how silly sounding it gets.

To help avoid confusion, please state for which game you are playing.

In addition to the above, we have a few other ground rules to keep in mind when posting in this thread:

  • Be polite as much as possible. Don't be rude or vulgar to anyone.
  • Keep your questions related to the Civilization series.
  • The thread should not be used to organize multiplayer games or groups.

Finally, if you wish to read the previous Weekly Questions threads, you can now view them here.

You think you might have to ask questions later? Join us at Discord.

Hit a lovely milestone early this morning!

Used a few MODS to get a beautiful screenshot of New York in my last game. Hit over the 500 hr mark in this one.

The Great Wall is really bad

Posted: 03 Sep 2018 07:37 AM PDT

I would say its the most useless feature of any civ, besides a few uus like the Highlander and Mustang.

Due to its placement restriction the wall is often used to the enemy's advantage. An enemy can place their ranged units on your wall, and bombard you from safety.

And the yields it gives are just soooo bad. Why place the wall if you could place a farm or mine? They yields are just mediocre until you build more. Its such a waste of a builder charges.

I get it, Dynastic Cycle and Qin's ability are really powerful, but would it hurt to give the wall a little buff? Maybe have it give +1 production instead of gold?

Loyalty pressure should have a severe reduction when crossing ocean tiles

Posted: 03 Sep 2018 10:48 AM PDT

It makes no sense when a city 8 tiles away exerts the same pressure when the 8 tiles are ocean tiles. I actually had a city almost flip from a civ on another continent when I was in a dark age and he was heroic. I think there should be an increased degradation rate for each ocean tile crossed

Want to see the lesser-known city names for each civ more often? Check out my new mod, Random City Names!

Qin Shi Huang completed two encampments on the same turn, except I was occupying the tiles when he did. When that happens, the district is immediately pillageable. Huang move, buddy.

What are the chances that Rise and Fall can still get DLCs?

Posted: 03 Sep 2018 11:06 AM PDT

It's not normal for Firaxis to pump out DLCs for expansions... but still... there are so many Civs/nations/leaders that we all know could be in the game.

What are the chances that R&F will have its own new DLCs with new leaders/Civs?

Why does the AI not build max amount of districts?

Posted: 03 Sep 2018 03:03 PM PDT

Every time I get to spies and go to send my first one (and even my 5th one) to another civ's city, I always see a long list of cities with no more than 2 districts and it's exceedingly annoying. I feel like the AI would be much more threatening if it built more districts. It's almost gimping itself on purpose.

Win conditions

Posted: 03 Sep 2018 12:00 PM PDT

Does the AI not 'know' or adapt its play style when you change the win conditions? I am trying out a game with a domination win only checked and I've never seen the AI be so buddy buddy before...

"Naturalization" of mods

Posted: 03 Sep 2018 04:47 PM PDT

Is there a way to allow a mod to he used ingame without it interfering with achievement progress? I use the Ethnic Units mod normally, and I've found that normal Civ isn't the same without it. Using it however, prevents me from getting achievements. Is there any way to do both?

Why is CQUI never used in public multiplayer?

Posted: 03 Sep 2018 10:21 AM PDT

Very very rare to see a game that is using it. If I try to host one with CQUI enabled, I can never get enough people to join to get things started. Is there a reason? The mod is only 500kb or so I thought, so size of download isn't the issue..

Attacking religious units in City or Encampment tiles

Posted: 03 Sep 2018 12:01 PM PDT

Does anyone know if there is some mod to do this? I find it the most annoying part of converting other civs, as you can't do anything except wait for the inquisitors in the cities to spend all their charges, then convert the cities quickly before they get more.
