Do you like that Zelda games are not made as deliberate sequels to each other? Why or why not? Posted: 15 Aug 2018 02:31 AM PDT This is not intended to be about the technicalities of the timeline or in depth debate about game theories. I understand that some games like OoT and MM are a pair, but this is directed at the general trend of the series as a whole. The games are not made in sequence, and that's what this discussion is about. Personally I don't care about the timeline and I enjoy each game as its own game. I do like that there is room for people to enjoy hypothesizing about the lore, despite not having a personal interest in it. I think each game has its own speciality to offer, and it usually includes a good balance of story and intriguing gameplay. [link] [comments] |

Should I, someone who's NEVER played Legend of Zelda, buy Breath of the Wild for $45? Posted: 14 Aug 2018 08:49 PM PDT Just saw the daily deal for BotW and I'm locked in intense thought right now. I'm currently playing God of War PS4 and having the time of my life, and I love open-world action-adventures with growing combat skill trees and weapons. My only concern with BotW is that I've always gotten this "JRPG" vibe from the series. I like having RPG elements in action games, but not to the point where I have to be super-ultra selective about the armor I'm wearing and whether or not the weapon I'm carrying is useless against the enemy I'm fighting or whatever. I dont wanna fret too much about peripheral details in an action game; I just wanna be able to get by with a good knowledge of the controls and the enemies I'm fighting, and be "woo"'d by all the cool new moves and weapons I get along the way. Admittedly, I haven't seen much YT footage of the game (or the series for that matter), so I'm not entirely sure what kind of audience it caters to. I DO know that It has a bunch of side-activities which I dont mind, but still I'm very much on the fence here. TL:DR - I love open-world action/adventures with RPG elements like God of War, but not a fan of the reverse: RPG-heavy games that have action/adventure elements. Should I buy BotW, or is it not for me? [link] [comments] |

Theory on the Duality of Link and Ganon. Posted: 14 Aug 2018 09:58 PM PDT SPOILERS FOR SKYWARD SWORD AHEAD!!!! As you lore junkies know, Ganon is theorized and HEAVILY implied to be the reincarnation of the demon, Demise, who drove the Hylians from the earth and prompted the goddess Hylia to create the land in the skies known as Skyloft, also creating the Goddess Sword housing Fi, a sword spirit created by the goddess Hylia. Throughout the game, you strengthen the sword, eventually becoming the same Master Sword in the rest of the series (Following the official timeline with Skyward as the first canonical game and disregarding the manga). The game ends with Demise telling Link that "My hate... never perishes. It is born anew in a cycle with no end. I will rise again!", followed by a key line, "Those who share the blood of the goddess and the spirit of the hero... They are eternally bound to this curse." For the purposes of my theory, those he refers to are Zelda and Link respectively. This means that Ganon, Link, and Zelda have intertwined fates yada yada yada. Throughout the later part of Skyward, it is revealed that Ghirahim is actually a sword spirit, just like Fi, in addition to what appears to be a dark version of the Master Sword, with a reversed Triforce symbol, and even has a variation of a Skyward Strike. These things are what make SS Link the goddess' chosen hero, which begs the question, is Demise a chosen hero of some god/goddess? We are going to make some assumptions about what makes SS Link, the goddess' chosen, and not some rando is that he: * Has the special sword * Can summon the Skyward Strike * Can communicate with the sword spirit (this one is important later) The fact that it is his destiny, as stated by Fi, does not necessarily mean someone (Hylia) forced this upon him from the start, and we are taking this to mean that SS Link's destiny is to defeat a demon and save Zelda, not what we will refer to as "The Hero's Quest", which are the mentions of destiny AFTER SS, meaning that the journey taken in SS was the precedent set for all other incarnations of Link. Alternatively, the stated "destiny" could just be some grand marketing terms to get Link to pull the sword and begin his quest. Either way, there was no grand plan yet set in motion. Demise also fits our criteria listed above * Having the Dark or Anti-Master Sword * Being able to summon a variation of the Skyward Strike (As seen in the final Ghirahim Battle) * Can communicate with the sword spirit of Ghirahim As stated earlier, the Master Sword had to be tempered and upgraded to become the True Master Sword that is passed down through the games, and has a distinctinve Triforce emblem on it, also bearing a sword spirit. It would be a very safe assumption that the sword went through an identical process, being upgraded by the very same flames that tempered the Goddess Sword What if, Link and Demise are chosen by a powerful diety, on a journey for their world, (Link, the realm of Hyrule, and Demise, the land of Demons) and claiming the earth for their own. Demise led the demon invasion thousands of years prior to SS, and in doing so, likely visited the Sacred Flames, his journey instead of destroying bokoblin and the like, killing the inhabitants of Hyrule with his sword spirit guiding him in a similar way that Fi did with Link. What if Demise went through the same journey as Link, just with reversed roles? ~PS I will be cleaning up this post later, it's currently late, and I'm writing this in a fit of nerddom and passion. I'm beyond embarrassed to have to ask this... Posted: 14 Aug 2018 11:27 PM PDT I've just started link's awaking, my first 2D zelda game. The first thing I'm told to do is head to the shore to get my sword. I've spent an hour trying to find a path to get there, but every path is blocked off. I'm not stupid, I've done all 120 shrines in BOTW, so what is going on? please save my sanity.
