Learn Dota 2 - Creating a ~10 hero pool?

Creating a ~10 hero pool?

Posted: 02 Aug 2018 07:48 AM PDT

I'm having some ladder anxiety and was thinking about just playing with 10ish heroes. Is this something commonly recommended?

I've been watching DOTA for about 5 years and have about 500 hours spread across that time. I'm still really bad though, and only have 2/10 of my calibration games done.

I am planning on just trying to get past the ladder anxiety by picking 2-3 heroes per role. Does anyone have any recommendations here? What I have planned is:

5 support: Witch Doctor, Lion

4 support: ??? (maybe earthshaker)

3: Enigma, Bristleback, ???

2: Visage, ??? (maybe storm or ember)?

1: No idea. I like Clinkz. Maybe Lycan (I want to be able to have a few micro heroes)

My goal is to just get into the practice of playing ranked and trying to gain MMR. Otherwise I feel like I'll just keep "practicing" in unranked forever.

For Those With Hand Problems (Like Myself)

Posted: 02 Aug 2018 06:06 PM PDT

...you can heal much quicker if you change how you play (in-game settings and time alloted) along with taking frequent breaks if you choose to recover while trying to keep up with Dota.

I recently turned up mouse sensitivity and it has helped me recover immensely. I used to have my mouse sensitivity super low and I found out that it was a cause of a lot of wrist pain because i was constantly flicking my wrist and whatnot. Other source of pain was clicking and I have stopped spamming click as much as I did and my hand hurts much less.

An injury isn't always a death sentence for your hobbies, but it's always about gauging how you feel and making necessary changes.

Can Shackleshot's latch on be disjointed by Strafe?

Posted: 02 Aug 2018 02:20 PM PDT

Hello!

I painfully learnt my shackleshot is useless vs a Clinkz.

Let's assume my team only has projectile stuns and that clinkz is public enemy number one. We havn't got the gold for a sheepstick or eul's yet, but fighting already started.

Would I be able to disable him by shackleshotting a creep/hero while he has strafe active, so as to ignore his disjoint?

Buying armour vs buying HP

Posted: 01 Aug 2018 09:09 PM PDT

When would you buy more armour items and when would you buy items that give HP? How much armour is too much and how much is too little? How do you make this decision?

Utterly clueless how to win games. 43% winrate. 745 solo MMR. No idea when to teamfight. WTF am I doing wrong?

Help with storm game.

Posted: 02 Aug 2018 07:40 AM PDT

We ended up winning this match but, could a higher level player go over the 1st 10-15 minutes. Simply just to point out what you would have done differently. I am the storm and, my storm isn't pretty but, I do understand the hero. I was up against TA who crushed me when the kunka came mid. I just felt like there was nothing I could have done more outside of surviving the lane. Any comments are appreciated. https://www.dotabuff.com/matches/4037412144

What to do when teammates make stupid decisions?

Posted: 02 Aug 2018 04:51 AM PDT

I had a game today where our team pushed Highground. Enemy team was about to respawn and everyone on our team had like half HP. Instead of going back they decided to stay and try to fight them again. Everyone died except me (I was carry in this situation).

What do you do in these situations besides pinging your team to go back? I even feel like it is sometimes more worth it to stay with them and maybe kill one or two of the enemy team and die afterwards instead of defending alone against 5 enemys when the fight is over and everyone on your team is dead.

Linkens and target unit abilities

Posted: 02 Aug 2018 05:06 AM PDT

Linkens sphere is good against some heroes but I feel like it becomes useless when the enemies have a lot of target unit abilities.

So my question :Is it worth it getting it when the enemy team has a lot of unit target spells?

Ive heard some high mmr players saying that its not worth it when they can activate it easily but I also see some really high mmr players going for it.Just recently I saw an anti mage (rank 104)going for linkens against a pudge, tinker, enigma, necro and treant.I see that its horrible getting ulted by necrophos in this case but it seems so easy to activate AM linkens with so many target unit spells.

Noob here:Can someone please explain the basics to me?

Posted: 02 Aug 2018 09:46 AM PDT

So I just started playing the game and I have 15 hours clocked in, but I feel like I still don't know anything. I used to play league, and I thought I could learn this game easily because of that, but of course that is not the case at all. The tutorial is fucking garbage that only teaches you the fundementals like how to move your character. I would have figured that out myself.

Anyways, sorry for the rant, I just want to learn the game so if there's someone who could explain anything to me that would be great.

How to play against Bristleback?

Posted: 02 Aug 2018 12:24 AM PDT

This hero destroys us all the time and we are totally clueless how to lane against him and how to deal with him later. Yesterday we have game when I played Winter Wyvern and my friend AM against Offlane Bristle. We burned his mana, we harrased him quite hard. BB only buys mangoes and salves (lots of them) - but still he ended up 2 levels above us, somehow manage to buy fast Crimson and Blademail and while we are all dealing with him the enemy Spectre just crushed us at 39 minute mark.

I have read about silences and mana break and Silver edge but I have a feeling that nothing works in the end.

Yeah and we are 2k MMR players.

Not an advertisement. I saw it as an ad on DotaWTF so I signed up for the free services, and man is it telling me what I want to hear. I have a Hearld 5 medal right now and it's telling me I'm playing at a Legend level! Am I chasing the rabbit down the whole or is it real?

Null Talisman/Double null talisman on Invoker. Why?

Posted: 02 Aug 2018 12:10 AM PDT

I understand that a null talisman is a good cheap way to get stats and damage on any int hero, but if you start the game with an iron branch, pooled tangos, faerie fire, and wraith band it nets you basically the same dps (+/- 1) as if you replaced the wb with a Null, except the wb will turn into a ROA, which provides mana regen, armour, an aurora to push the lanes with, and some stats for a cheap price, where as the nulls don't turn into anything you typically see built on invoker. Plus a lot of invokers build ROA now anyway.

I guess my question is why is it that you almost always see invokers starting with a null instead of a wb, and they even sometimes go for 2 nulls before buying a ROA? Wouldn't you be better off skipping the nulls and going for a ROA and then phase boots? The difference would be +24 damage, the phase active, and 1 slot used (boots) for 860 gold (2 blades) vs +6 str, +6 agi, +14 int, and 3 slots used (boots and 2 nulls) for 930 gold. Plus, even if you plan on selling the Phase boots anyway to get BoT's early, you will be selling both the nulls anyway, so you can basically get more dps (roughly 4 dps more), have more space in your inventory for regen, and you will only spend roughly 215 gold more in the end. Plus the longer you hold onto your phase boots for the better the cost difference seems because you could probably farm that gold difference back in like 30 seconds.

I'm not a high skilled player and I don't play invoker that much (maybe 30-40 games all up), so maybe there's something I'm missing here (like I don't understand how much of a difference those stats truly make), but it just seems like double nulls aren't the most efficient ways to spend your gold, unless your maybe playing a highly active quas-wex invoker and those little stats are the difference between you being a threat and you having not enough damage or mana to combo (but I don't even know if that is true or not).
