Raynor's Raider has the worst hitbox in the game hands down.

Posted: 15 Aug 2018 03:49 PM PDT

So the banshee has its little model and in starcraft 2, another 2.5 dimension game, there's this little bar that drops straight down from air units so you can see exactly where to aim a spell to "hit" them. However in hots, this is not the case.

The banshee has a shadow which it casts on the ground to indicate that its flying. So, it might make sense depending on where the light is coming from that you have to target the shadow and if the banshee is floating over the flamestrike it will get hit. However in hots, this is not the case.

The banshee's actual hitbox is the literal sprite of the banshee. This is so counterintuitive given the 2.5-dimensional nature of the game. KTZ's Q is an example of how a projectile can be floating slightly above ground and have a wonky little hitbox but it works.

TLDR why is the banshee hitbox on its actual model, its super counterintuitive.

Heroes of the Storm is the best MOBA currently available in terms of gameplay, and it's a shame Blizzard doesn't market it better.

Posted: 15 Aug 2018 03:04 AM PDT

Heroes of the Storm is kinda trapped in a bit of a spiral in that it is less popular not because it is a worse game, but because it is less popular. I constantly hear League of Legends players bitch about their game making weird/bad/unfun changes. DotA is nearly impossible to get into as a casual player. Smite is an ongoing disaster. So on and so forth.

Heroes of the storm is legitimately a great game. The changes constantly make the game better. Hero releases, while not as unique as they used to be, are still plenty unique. Whitemane and Yrel are both wonderful additions.

But Blizzard can't seem to get anything done on the marketing side. There's been no timed ad campaigns when League screws up. Janitor Leoric has become no less than a PR disaster. There's been no real push for new players, and we can see clear as day that the tutorial only goes part of the way to acclimating new players.

Just because you build the best MOBA on the market does not mean they will come, Blizzard. Word of mouth on HotS may be generally great (Though we do complain about reconnect/matchmaking), and the E-sports scene certainly helps, but you really need to push for some proper growth. Have an ad campaign waiting in the works for the next time league inevitably completely overhauls their game just because. Make some official greatest hits trailers. Sell people on the game.

Because we goddamn love this game and a lot of others would too if you could just get them playing.

Dev Talk: Whitemane and Supports with Lead Hero Designer Matt Villers

Apparently tons of people are dropping LoL, maybe we can get a player boost.

Posted: 15 Aug 2018 09:51 AM PDT

I've seen some posts and in r/outoftheloop about a ton of players and some big streamers dropping LoL due to the state of the game. I think it would awesome to get a boost in the player population but will probably lose them all to Fortnite.

2 Things from Hearthstone that can increase Blizzard's profitability of HotS

Posted: 15 Aug 2018 01:44 PM PDT

Cosmetics and unlocking Heroes is primarily Blizzard's main way of benefiting off of HotS, but if the game was better monetized/profitable, we'd almost certainly see a bigger dev team and more interest in the game as a whole. I see 2 major solutions that are already in Hearthstone:

  1. Buy-In Tournaments

Similar to Hearthstone's Arena mode, you would pay either Gold or Gems to participate in a ladder against other teams of 5. Depending on your teams wins, you would earn Shards, Gold, and possibly Gems. Winning all of your games should grant at least twice the buy-in cost.

Tournaments help solve a few issues- players are more likely to purchase Gems if they cannot afford the gold, and veteran players have a way to spend their mountains of gold (ez gold sink). Additionally, players with the skill to win games are rewarded by something other than a fat "Victory!" screen and some rank points.

  1. Solo Adventures

Again, just like Hearthstone's older Adventures, you'd pay either gold or gems to access PvE missions similar to our Zerg PvE brawls. These adventures not only give great PvE content, but would appeal to a majority of the casual HotS audience and provide an in-game way of developing lore. Imagine the Dark Nexus event again, but released with a mission where you play as Dark Nexus Alarak or Gul'Dan and you are tasked with the Raven Lord's bidding.

Just some thoughts, I would really love to see more love from Blizzard and with seeing lots of talk about a small development team here are some thoughts about what could give a reason to expand it.

Why isn't there an option to have the hero's name above the model? As a new player, it's making it a real pain to try to learn what is going on.

Posted: 14 Aug 2018 10:24 PM PDT

With so much teamfighting and such lively maps, I'm actually finding this game harder to learn than dota and league. In those two being able to see hero names or having less crazy laning phases helped a lot.

This seems like a pretty basic feature. Is there a reason it's not in the game? Maybe I just missed it in the options menu.

Heroes of the Storm Pros Compare the NA Scene to the EU Scene: "I would say that NA is competitive, like the top three or four teams, but overall I guess the problem is that the other spots in the HGC lack the dedication that Europe has, so I would say that is the reason why Europe is in the lead."

Really confusing decision by Blizzard to have teams play on the July 25th patch when everyone has been scrimming on the Whitemane patch over the clash break since PTR...

I've finally made it into Diamond! Next goal: Masters!

Posted: 15 Aug 2018 09:15 AM PDT

https://imgur.com/a/E6QCe7D

I've been trying to play HL seriously since 2.0, where I was placed into Silver 2. Since then I've been trying to learn and improve my own gameplay and, with an average of 350 games per season, I steadly climbed through Silver, Gold and Platinum. And today I reached Diamond 5.

I know I have A TON to improve at, but this is an important millestone for me!

I hope this can inspire at least 1 person to keep trying to improve on the game you love. And MMR Hell isn't real!

[FANART] Control Arthas concept & skill changes

Has anyone else noticed Raynor's goofy animations since his rework?

Posted: 15 Aug 2018 05:48 AM PDT

I see him sliding across the ground a lot without moving his feet while activating his heal, and possibly while activating inspire.

Idk if it's related to the skin he uses or if it happens every single time, I've only occasionally noticed this while playing with or against him, haven't really tested it myself.

Lvl 100+ Kel'Thuzad, This Is My Take...

Posted: 15 Aug 2018 04:07 PM PDT

Kel'Thuzad IMO is the most balanced, rewarding, and high skill ceiling hero in the game. He has the ability to 1v1, 100-0 almost 90% of the games roster and leaves the other 10% going back to the hall of storms. In the right hands you can snowball a game and has that real true carry/fed feeling like in other mobas when you stack kills. He has a wider range than most people think and pushes those players that can't adapt to a KTZ in the right hands. He is really not that bad in 1v1 as people think as he can always counter kill and peel for himself once he gets Lvl 7. While I do have a couple complaints on talent diversity and his Glacial Spike talent here is my talent tree I almost always take.

IMO KTZ only has one real viable build:

Lvl 1: Blighted Frost - Anything that increases KTZ burst potential is a plus. With the quest competition synergy with Might Of The Scourge it gives you more kill potential against tanks.

Lvl 4: Phylactery of Kel'Thuzad - This is probably the only talent tier I would ever consider flexing, however having life leech is pretty strong in fights and could be the difference between living and dying. The number of games that have also been saved/won because of coming back for a core defend is hard to give up.

Lvl 7: Glacial Spike - THIS IS HIS BREAD AND BUTTER ABILITY. I really wish this talent was baked into his kit because this ability allows you to almost 1v1 anyone. If they did decide to bake this ability in it could have a longer cooldown (which would be sad for me but fair, or unlock it at half blight stacks)

Lvl 10: Shadow Fissure - Global kill potential & short cooldown, enough said.

Lvl 13: Chains Of Ice - This ability is a little underrated but is super important to securing more kills. Now pulling heroes with your chain allows you to take your time and place his W later than you usually do since they no longer can walk away if your W is perfectly timed.

Lvl 16: Hungering Cold - This is KTZ's equivalent of giant killer. It gives you the potential to start 100-0 tanks as well as almost instantly melt any assassin.

Lvl 20: Might Of The Scourge - This ability helps core defenses as well as :HelloYoutube: plays with reset after reset. Since the Lvl 1 upgrade roots longer, you can safely land 2 ults on comboed targets.

Overall I think there are ways to improve this heroes talent diversity but I think this is probably one of the better designed heroes that Blizzard has created for hots. A character that actually has a skill gap difference and higher ceiling. He feels like the only character I can directly control the outcome of the game when I am play making and playing optimally. I would encourage Blizzard to create more challenging and rewarding heroes though make sure they have talent diversity in the future. BLIZZ PLZ DON'T DO ANYTHING TO RUIN MY BELOVED KTZ UNLESS ITS FOR THE BETTER ;)

For those who play KTZ or just want to chime in on KTZ whats your take and how do you think he could be improved to possibly be more meta?

It feels like the team at Blizz who work on HotS is too small.

Posted: 14 Aug 2018 11:35 PM PDT

First off let me say I actually really like what the team have been doing these past few months.

The changes to older heroes have been mostly successful (Lunara/Raynor rework, Genji's reduced Swift Strike Range and reset window for example) and Alterac Pass is a cool map.

That being said, it feels like the team doesn't have enough resources to develop the game. I understand every dev team has finite resources which must be prioritised, but even so it feels like too much is falling through the cracks.

  • How long has it been with a terrible reconnect system?

  • Why can't we do auto select and still keep our selected load outs for heroes?

  • Why don't cooldowns on abilities update the tool tips when taking talents which reduce or increase them?

  • Why were banners introduced, only to be effectively abandoned?

  • When was the last time an older hero had their model updated?

  • How many bugs have gone unfixed for months?

  • How many years before we have an API for stats?

  • When will we have a report system that is clear, effective and informs punished players immediately after a match what they have done as well as inform those who report that action has been taken?

  • When will we have a ready check before games to reduce AFKers in draft modes?

  • When will stats for matches be available in our history without needing to view a replay?

Now you may say "we can't have everything at once" or "these things take time" etc etc but HotS was released in June 2015! That means the team have had more than three years since release to build and improve the game.

Some of the above should've surely been sorted out by now, right??

I made a xpfarm calculator for the community

Posted: 15 Aug 2018 08:29 AM PDT

Hey guys. I made a calculator to make it convenient to know where my character will end up after completing a successful 1 hour ai xpfarm game. You can find the detailed post that covers the basics of xpfarm here.

I found it useful for myself so I am also posting it here for others to use.

here is the link to the calculator:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1gt4WEWtUp0F7f3oryQaFD-7FeSK8kVb08eohCgbfUS0/edit#gid=0

How it works is you enter in 3 columns of input and it spits out 2 columns of output

Here is an example of a typical row

  • First column of input (column B): Your character level that you will be playing. This is in decimal format where the integer portion of your decimal is your current level, and the decimal portion of the number is the percentage to the next level. In other words, if you're level 5 and 80% of the way to level 6, you would enter 5.8.
  • Second column of input (column C): Whether or not you have a stim pack. If you do, enter "yes", otherwise leave blank or enter no.
  • Third column of input (Column D): Enter whether or not you are eligible for a "First win Bonus". In an xpfarm game you are targeting 500k for the base line xp gains. First win bonus will give you an additional 250k boost. If you have this bonus, enter "yes".
  • First column of output (Column F): Total amount of experience gained for a successful game where you get 500k baseline experience and win the game. This assumes you have a friend bonus and you are a 5 man party.
  • Second column of output (Column G): Your character's Ending Level xp. This is what you care about. This is the purpose of the calculator. What % do I have to be to gain the level (or multiple levels). The output here will be in the same format as the input on the first column. In the example posted, if you want the full 3 levels up from 5-8 you need to be 80% of the way to level 6.

Anyways, feel free to give me feedback. I didn't spend a whole lot of time on this, so there are probably bugs and improvements to be made. I just found it helpful for me, so I thought I'd make it public. Enjoy.

Blizzard's AMA answer about team league suggested replacing it with a completely new mode with rosters and limited play times. Would anyone mind if TL was replaced with that new mode today?

Posted: 15 Aug 2018 09:48 AM PDT

one of blizzard's ideas for fixing team league was replacing it with set rosters that could only play at set times. like TL is on friday, saturday, and sunday, and 5 of your 10 members must show for you to be able to participate.

reply below if you'd hate to see team league replaced with that new mode immediately. otherwise, everyone agrees and it should switch over ASAP RIP CYA

We would love to hear the community's feedback on any of this, so please let us know what you think or if you have any other ideas:

Team League becomes a mode that is only available during specific windows of time for a limited duration. In this version, Team League wouldn't always be available, but we would be creating a moment and celebrating the mode during these windows, encouraging players to play in it. This could mean the mode is only available on weekends, or something rarer like specific weeks out of a month block, or a handful of times throughout an entire ladder season.

Turn TL into a more structured experience that embraced players forming permanent or semi-permanent teams. Essentially, players would create a team name, have a limited roster of players available, potentially customize something visual to represent their team, etc. In this version, teams would likely last an entire season, or this could be combined with something like the first option where this is your team for a limited window of time.

"Lifetime" is the only option.

Not good, can't see where people placed previously to gauge their skill level, or our own for that matter.
