Theorycraft Thursday - Discuss Builds, Skills, Strategies, and More!

Posted: 16 Aug 2018 02:00 AM PDT

Welcome to Theorycraft Thursday, a community-building, regularly occurring thread in the subreddit!

MMO veterans will know that Theorycrafting is the core of many discussions about this genre of games, and ESO is no different.

With the high level of variance in builds, skills, and stats, there's plenty of room for Theorycrafting, and we want to see what you have to share with the community on that front.

Have a build you've experimented with? A particular skill or set of skills that synergize well? A strategy for PvE or PvP that works to great effect? Share it here!

If you're new, you can also use this thread to ask questions about viable builds and skills as well!

As always, please keep in mind our rules on the sidebar, especially the one about no personal attacks, callouts, rude behavior, or other such disrespectful content.

Disagree respectfully and know that everyone has different ideas and playstyles that suit them.

An apology: my heals exist just for you

Posted: 15 Aug 2018 05:22 AM PDT

I am here for you, 750 Templar. I may have queued for a pug here in Banished Cells, but we all know that I'm just here so that you can swim in my healing springs while you do your daily. Those two level 10's that are fighting alongside us? Unimportant. I cannot let them distract me from your ever-dwindling health bar. And yet... I did allow them to distract me. Shameful, I know. As we went around that very first corner and into the wide hall, I never should have put my magicka into maintaining their health as they fought tooth and nail against a swarm of foes. I confess I thought it valiant at the time, the way they battled a dozen or more in what was no doubt one of their first dungeons, and I also confess I made it my mission to support them and keep them alive, and that you could handle yourself for the moment.

Shame on me. I didn't immediately see that you left my range, and those three trash mobs you spotted and pulled on the other side of the hall gave you an unholy beatdown. You were dead before I could sprint to give you my breath of life. I'm sorry, I never should have expected that a max level character would be able to manage his health in a fringe fight, or that he would have learned to be aware of his surroundings. What was I thinking? While I truly never expect my groups to heal themselves, take a potion, or extricate themselves from conflict should they suddenly realize they are not as skilled as they thought, I admit that I foolishly assumed I could focus my energies on the brave new fighters.

I felt terrible that you died on my watch. I ran to your corpse and resurrected you as quickly as I could in an effort to slightly make amends, although I knew the damage was done. You were entirely within your rights to get on the group chat and tear into me; I deserved it, but none of the hateful things you said to me could compare to the hateful things I was telling myself. And the level 10 that came to my defense? I'm so, so sorry. He should have felt more guilt that by keeping him alive, I allowed you to die. His combat distracted me from your combat and thus my primary mission: keeping you at full health at all times.

Rest assured, should we group again, I will put the entirety of my attention on you.

Just to be clear, we all have bad days and bad runs, and the level of a character doesn't mean they're perfect or that they suck. Shit happens to everyone. However instead of taking it out on everyone around you when things go south, try to learn from what happened. If you want to give hate, instead be kind-even if you don't feel it-and offer your knowledge instead.

You got me with the free trial EOS!

Posted: 15 Aug 2018 07:04 PM PDT

Ok. So I have played every day for the past 5 days and now I'm hooked! The free trial worked, Zenimax! You win!

I have looked around for the best way to buy the game and it looks like a $9.99 "Standard Edition" digital download is my best bet: https://account.elderscrollsonline.com/store/product/eso_standard

What do y'all think? Any other recommendations? Can I get it cheaper somewhere else? Is there a downside to the digital download? I've read everyone's really nice posts about how subbing is awesome, but not needed right off the bat. So I think I'm going to wait on that. Also definitely not buying through Steam based on all the posts! (thanks r/elderscrollsonline!)

Advice on my StamWarden Tank build

Posted: 16 Aug 2018 01:15 AM PDT

Hi !

After deciding I want my Warden to be a tank, I've reached the CP cap @220 and started to get my gear with the help of my main char who is my crafter.
I've looked at Woeler and Alcast build to have an idea of the gear I can get and the stats I need to aim. But I don't plan to do trials, only normal and vet dungeons.

Right now, I've keeped all my stats points into stamina (like in Alcast build), and with the gear I've got I reach 35k health, 25k stamina and around 10k magicka. It seems that my magicka is a bit too low, so I use The Atronach mundus stone to have a better mag regen. My enchants are not finale though and I'm not a vampire.

As for the sets, I wear Torug's Pact with Plague Doctor, and I'm planning to farm Ebon Armor as a replacement for PD. I don't have any monster set for now, what should I go for ? Bloodspawn ? Chokethorn/Shadowrend ? Or any 2 pieces sets that increase mag regen ?

For the skills, I follow Alcast advices, but I don't have Deep Thoughts for now as I didn't leveled Psijic Order line. What can I use as a replacement while I level the skill line ?

Any other advice to improve my build ?

And any advice how to start tanking in dungeons ? What dungeons are the easiest ones ?

(pc) Anyone else having a bug in battlegrounds with corpses running around killing people?

Posted: 16 Aug 2018 04:11 AM PDT

just played a round of battlegrounds where quite a few of the players looked like corpses/a pile of ashes sliding around on the ground. I could not attack them but they could attack me. Is this some new exploit or is it just a weird bug thats just happening to me?

[Discussion] Tankiest PVP Build

Posted: 16 Aug 2018 03:43 AM PDT

I want to play one of those dudes in PVP that has like 20 people swarming them like mosquitos and not dying. Could someone link me to a super tanky PVP build? Preferably Templar because I only have one of them and want to play another. Thank you.

Any point joining a guild?

Posted: 16 Aug 2018 03:34 AM PDT

So I'm lvl 22 with a dragonnight orc and about to finish the main campaign (first time around). I don't get on much with work and family and can't decide if it's worth joining a guild or not?

I'm a team player if in a team, however, I'm not on loads (few hours a week id that at the moment) and I hear it's mainly for selling/buying equipment. Id uses that but probs need pve just as much. I only have the base game to via the game pass and I won't be investing any money into it

I should add I'm on the XB and play on the European server ... Happy for suggestions and invites!

Necropotence set question

Is the 5 piece set bonus per pet or the amount is stable at 2986 (pulled a random number there) regardless of how many pets you have out?

Help with DPS on my StamSorc

Posted: 15 Aug 2018 11:01 PM PDT

Hi Guys. I needed help with DPS on some sets. I am a StamSorc (Redguard) at ~260 CP using DW in front bar and Bow in back bar. I have a full set of Berserking Warrior (weapons and jewellery) and Vicious Ophidian armour (the only thing I am missing is a MA bow, using VO Bow as of now)). All the armour has increased stamina enchant (gold) while the weapons and jewellery have weapon damage enchant. All gear is purple with the exception of Jewellery (which is blue). I have all the armor in Divines and still working on getting the weapons to Nirnhoned. Considering everything I expected my DPS to reach at least 15k-18k easily but it is at ~12k now. Do the traits make so much of a difference? What am I doing wrong? My previous gear (Night Mother's Gaze and Hunding Rage) with the same enchants and traits as divines/infused gave similar DPS or sometimes close to 15k DPS. I thought the trial weapons were supposed to be superior.

The skills I use are -

DW - Rending Slashes, Rearming Trap, Steel Tornado, Hurricane, Dagger Cloak, Summon Storm Atronach (will replace it with Dawnbreaker)

Bow - Poison Injection, Endless Hail, Crit Surge, Razor Caltrops, Rearming Traps, Ballista

Also, I have put my champion points as per the guide on Alcast's website.

I am really lost here as I see people getting ~50k DPS. Thanks in advance :)

EDIT: I am on PC.

Inconsistency in unstable core

Posted: 16 Aug 2018 01:30 AM PDT

I'm a healer (still pretty new) and I've recently started popping off unstable core in between heals in battlegrounds. I like it because it's instant and in the heat of battle people don't seem to notice it's on them so they kill themselves. However it's very inconsistent in pvp, much more inconsistent than in pve. Sometimes I'll cast it repeatedly and it never takes, or it only hits after the 4th or 5th try; other times every enemy player is running around with it on them. Why is that? What do people have that makes my unstable core fizzle? What can I do on my end to make it more consistent?

Newbie magblade LF advice

Posted: 15 Aug 2018 05:58 PM PDT

Can more experienced magblades point out mistakes I made on this parse where I could improve my DPS?

Superstar/CMX: https://imgur.com/a/3s1PJTc

Currently I start with dropping ult after applying ele drain (won't be doing this in actual fights) and my buffs, then proceeding with dropping my ground AOE + crippling. I try to prioritize grim resolve/fire wall, and when I hit 25% I try to maintain the 70 ulti for vulnerability + killer's blade, fire wall, ele drain, and siphoning. I've recorded a bunch of parses recently but I always hit a wall at 32k. Thank you!
