Focused Feedback: Redrix Claymore / Broadsword & Seasonal exclusivity of Gear

Posted: 20 Aug 2018 05:10 AM PDT

Hello Guardians,

Focused Feedback is where we take the week to focus on a 'Hot Topic' discussed extensively around the Tower.

We do this in order to consolidate Feedback, to get out all your ideas and issues surrounding the topic in one place for discussion and a source of feedback to the Vanguard.

This Thread will be active until next week when a new topic is chosen for discussion

Whilst Focused Feedback is active, ALL posts regarding 'Seasonal Exclusivity E.g. Redrix Claymore' following its posting will be removed and re-directed to this thread. Exceptions to this rule are as follows: New information / developments, Guides and general questions

Any and all Feedback on the topic is welcome.

Regular Sub rules apply so please try to keep the conversation on the topic of the thread and keep it civil between contrasting ideas

A Wiki page - Focused Feedback - has also been created for the Sub as an archive for these topics going forward so they can be looked at by whoever may be interested or just a way to look through previous hot topics of the Sub as time goes on.

Are vanguard boobs broken?

Posted: 20 Aug 2018 09:13 AM PDT

I'm trying to grind out level 50 in strikes for the ship but whenever I've used a boon today I don't get the extra token reward. They worked fine for me in the past, but I've tried 3 today on 3 strikes and none have given me the reward.

EDIT: Wow guys, who knew a typo would pop off so much. Thank you kind guardian for the gold! And thank you to all the people who answered the question! Every comment, upvote and the gold are appreciated. You guys are the best!

Warmind is a great example of a $20 DLC for Destiny done right.

Posted: 20 Aug 2018 09:44 AM PDT

Sure, the campaign is short and some story missions are repurposed strikes, but the sheer scale of the patrol space, quests, end game activities, hidden collectables, and so much more really make me feel like I got my money's worth.

If Bungie continues with the $20 expansion pack model in the future, I really hope they use Warmind as the benchmark for how much stuff gets included in it.

Throwing Knife Damage in PvP is tied to Frame Rate

Posted: 20 Aug 2018 06:25 AM PDT

Throwing Knife Damage in PvP is tied to Frame Rate, that is, if you're using the Top Skilltree on your Gunslinger, and if you play on PC.

Vid is extremely short, but TL;DW - if you're on PC, only the precision damage/impact of your throwing knife will damage opponents... the explosion of the exploding throwing knife will not damage enemies unless you are running 30fps. This is similar to bugs seen in the past, where the Colony would not track properly at any FPS other than 30, etc. Just a heads-up for all you PC Gunslingers out there (all 9 of you.)

Why is there no inclement weather events in Destiny 2?

Posted: 20 Aug 2018 09:53 AM PDT

Destiny 2s world needs to be more interactive and engaging. Are supposed feel alive yet at the same bleak and dead from centuries of neglect and erosion.

Forsaken will bring new reasons to join planets we may never venture so why not add a reason to stay there

EDZ is a forested area on Earth and naturally when we think of inclement weather we think of thunder and lightning so why not a massive supercell producing damaging winds and torrential downpours with lightning strikes narrowly missing guardians as thunder rumbles from above

Titan is a giant Ocean though an ocean of gas still an ocean so why not a raging tsunami with 150ft high waves that not only sweep players of their feet cause static explosions due to the sulfur in the water like waves

Nessus used to be a moon but now is a giant machine and machines malfunction. Eathquakes, tremors the combine machines blended in with the landscape shapeshift with beautiful colors but deadly consequences beware of the leaves. Magnificent red flowers turn into razor sharp weapons turn into deadly weapons as the machines gravitational systems malfunction causing microburst tornados in it's wake.

IO... well no-one cares about IO. That's why the whisper quest was set there

Mercury the so called "glassed planet" is essentially a desert so why not a massive sandstorm complete with electrical currents misfiring through the landscape Try shooting Vex through that shit.

Mars: half red dirt wasteland, have snow covered cliffs and valleys. In the distance you see a red and white mist barreling towards you a massive snowstorm kicking up the Martian surface in it's wake. Beware though the snow will hurt more than you think rock hard baseball size chunks of ice rain down from the heavens as you run for cover inside braytechs facilities

The Reef is an asteroid belt floating in the abyss of space so naturally beware of asteroid showers as they rain down like cosmic missiles (owww my foot)

The Dreaming City well I think that's better Taken into Bungies minds for development.

Just a thought let me know what you think.

Forsaken Theme Title Screen

Posted: 20 Aug 2018 04:32 AM PDT

I have an idea Bungie, perhaps when we load in, we have the white screen from Vanilla D2. Suddenly, it starts to get corrupted with Taken until it's fully black, then introduce the title.

Posted: 19 Aug 2018 02:57 PM PDT

There are WAY too many posts on lfg sites for whisper "carries" for 5, 10 even 20 dollars. PLEASE do not go about getting your weapon that way. There are so many people in this community that would help you in a heartbeat. It sickens me to see people trying to take advantage of each other in this community. This community is centered around helping each other and I would love to continue to see it keep growing that way.

Bungie, we really need to buff nova bomb. Specifically the AoE

Posted: 20 Aug 2018 05:05 AM PDT

I have been a voidwalker main since the alpha of Destiny 1 and I loved every minute of it when I was playing destiny 1. I would get on average 2-3 kills per nova bomb. Now I throw a nova bomb and it is a crap shoot on whether or not it kills. I am not asking for a damage buff. I think it is plenty powerful. I just think that the AoE needs to be a little bigger. I am pretty sure that the AoE on striker titans are bigger, hell, the AoE on the molten hammers is probably bigger than a nova bomb. Please give OG voidwalkers some love and let me kill more than one person. I am really excited to see how the new voidwalker super will pan out. hopefully it'll be like striker titan and allow for 4-5 slams.

EDIT: Voidwalker is the least used class in the game...probably because of the crappy super

Again, we've been saying it since TK D1, no 6 solo players should be match made against a 6 stack.

Posted: 20 Aug 2018 12:13 AM PDT

I'm currently in a different time zone for work, so I have been attempting to solo queue for IB this week. With the 6 players on 4v4 maps, it is very easy to hold two zones and all the heavies and sightlines. I wish I could say it is rare, but the most I have seen matched against a 5 or 6 stack has been a duo. We have been arguing about matchmaking for years and I know strives have been made to make it better, but this has got to be a priority. Hopefully the introduction of larger maps will help, but right now it is atrocious.

Thank you for everything else, though. Game gets better by the day. I look forward to the weapon changes so more than three guns are used in the crucible.

I hope forsaken has some more bosses that can be sworded like aksis and that we get some amazing y2 swords

Posted: 20 Aug 2018 06:41 AM PDT

Man i just really miss going nuts on a boss with a sword like the dark drinker. Aksis, the boss of the final d1 raid, was a prime and amazing example of that.

During the damage phase, he did not have any sort of stomp mechanic making it possible to go nuts with your sword and whirl as fast as you could (dark drinker r2 was a spin attack and one of the meta strategies involved 6 guardians whirling dark drinkers during the damage phase).

I would love to see more bosses like that where swords are really viable and they don't always have a stomp mechanic so that using a sword becomes a viable boss DPS strategy in at least some cases.

I would also love to see some y2 swords that are as fun to use and as memorable as Destiny 1's exotic swords, which were some of my favorite weapons in destiny history. I miss you dark drinker, please come back <3

Redrix's Broadsword grind is the right way forward

Posted: 19 Aug 2018 11:22 PM PDT

Going to preface this with a little story which had me do a complete 180 on this whole ordeal. I was initially very annoyed by how Bungie dealt with this and it certainly reflects in my early post history.

I was in the tower just minding my own business until I see a happy fella' in Local chat talk about how he finally got his Redrix's Claymore and was super happy! Awesome for him, and I honestly didn't think much more about it until I saw his character in-game. A quick inspection and holy crap! Not just did he get the Claymore, but the fella has 5500 Glory! I have got to check this guy's Destinytracker for sure, what a champ.

And that was really the turning point. Fella had less than 1K/D in Comp altogether and he had three times as little comp matches as me, and I had only just hit 2100 Glory by my 410th'ish game. Lo and behold this is what I see ... He had "cheesed" all the way to 5500. Him and 3 other players had been queuing against another team they communicated with and using third party software was able to consistently match one another and basically wintrade to max glory. I obviously call him out on the whole thing, he feigns innocence and promptly leaves Tower, the end.

I always knew that there was players who hadn't acquired it legitimately, but this one guy in Local chat absolutely just ruined the Claymore grind for me. Although the Broadsword grind is fairly light in terms of the skill it requires, it's also something that isn't as exploitative as the current Competitive experience can be.

In fact, I hope Luna's Howl at least works somewhat like the Broadsword outside of requiring a certain amount of Glory. The matchmaking is deeply flawed and exploitative, I would love to see more quest related weapons which simply require you to get kills, precision kills, certain medals in PvP etc.

TLDR; Met a guy who had exploited to 5500, made me realize the grind was pointless and quest related weapon rewards is probably a really awesome idea

Any word on character face fixes or allowing us to change appearance?

Posted: 20 Aug 2018 09:40 AM PDT

I am sure many of you noticed that your character changed a little bit coming from D1 to D2. Most likely, they got a fair bit uglier.

I know a lot of people don't care, but I do! It's not only that they look a little different - sometimes the models just don't "work" anymore. For instance, I have this hairstyle from D1 and it looked fine. In D2, the hair graphically clips into my guardian's face. On top of that, her facial expression is now... well, let's just call it "derped out".

Anyways, I know the community has long asked for the ability to change the way we look - even if it's a one-time thing. Any word from Bungie or any acknowledgement on what happened from D1 to D2? Any effort into smoothing out how we look back to D1 standards? If not, at least allowing us the ability to go back in and make some changes - purely cosmetic - would be greatly appreciated.

My hype for Forsaken is off the charts and this reminds me of The Taken King, and I'm so happy about it.

Posted: 20 Aug 2018 06:44 AM PDT

The serious grim tone, darker story and formidable new foes looks like a winning recipe at least for me in this wonderful game. I just remembered the first time stepping foot on the Dreadnought, first time encountering the Taken, new dark secrets to unveil and a whole new dark Raid, and sincerely the Forsaken feels exactly like it. I don't think I could be more hyped at the moment, and by reading comments from persons like Byf saying that Forsaken will slam dunk even The Taken King lore-wise, I'm getting over excited. 14 days to go!

I love my apartment in the Last City

Posted: 20 Aug 2018 04:43 AM PDT

It has such a wonderful view!

If you want to recreate this screenshot:

You can clamber onto the balconies across from the ramen shop. Jump on the fence, then on top of the dot sign. Turn to the ramen shop and look for a rounded box with an antenna. Jump to that, then turn back to the apartments. Jump on the signs. Jump on the antenna box above. Then you can jump through the rounded part on the balconies, but you have to keep moving, or you'll fall through.

You can also use this path to explore above the ramen shop hallway. I didn't find anything interesting, nor was I able to glitch outside the map, but maybe you will have better luck!

Edit: Here is a video of me getting up there

XB1 - Changing to external SSD load times before and after

Posted: 20 Aug 2018 04:28 AM PDT

Recently I saw a post here talking about load times on console and the speed benefits using external SSD's, from general load times and most importantly inventory load times. Thought I'd post my results for anyone that is interested

I purchased an external drive sleeve and an internal SSD because it was the cheapest way to get SSD storage, links below show what I got

https://www.centrecom.com.au/orico-25-usb30-hard-drive-enclosure-black

https://www.centrecom.com.au/samsung-860-evo-250gb-25-sata-iii-ssd-mz-76e250bw

Below is the times recorded before and after on my OG Xbox One

Before: External WD 7200rpm HDD

After: External sleeve with Samsung 860 EVO SSD

Before After
From dashboard to character select screen with character model loaded 2:29 1:05
From orbit into tower 1:46 1:04
From Tower to Leviathan entrance loaded in no skipping 2:01 1:27

It was hard to measure the inventory load times but take my word for it, there is a noticeable decrease in load times. I rarely get stuck looking at the loading symbols now, so in summary thank you to the person that originally posted it, true guardian!

The Exo Stranger, Maya Sundaresh, and Elsie Bray: The Web That Binds Them

Posted: 20 Aug 2018 10:36 AM PDT

Hello Guardians! I'm not sure if anyone remembers me, but used to be a part-time purveyor of Destiny lore back in D1. Some examples of my work. I'm now back, revisiting a topic I once posted about. The Exo Stranger.

In my old post, I argued that the identity of the Exo Stranger was Maya Sundaresh. At around the same time (impossible to tell exactly because it was two years ago), u/BringItForth posted their own theory on the Exo Stranger's identity, arguing that it was Elsie Bray. Obviously, these posts were made two years ago, long before D2 or the Warmind expansion. Since then, there has been new evidence posted by u/Uberwolf_ that very firmly points towards the Elsie Bray camp. And honestly, based on the evidence, I'll definitely concede that point. There are still, however, some very interesting connections between the two, which I'd like to explore a bit.

The lost memory fragments from Warmind are, upon inspection, almost certainly written by Elsie Bray. One of them establishes a conection between Elsie and "a brilliant classmate [she] met at the physics fellowship in Deli" who "took a job on venus to continue her research." This scientist is almost certainly Maya Sundaresh. The other memory fragments establish that the two traded knowledge between the Ishtar Collective and Clovis Bray (which was apparently illegal) and that Elsie wanted to use Vex tech to simulate timelines, almost identical to the Vex device Sundaresh later worked on at Lhasa. And we also know that this Device eventually formed the foundation for the Future War Cult.

In TTK, there is a quest called "Not Forged in Light" which ultimately leads to the acquisition of No Time to Explain, the Stranger's pulse rifle. This questline is headed by Lakshmi-2, leader of the FWC. This establishes a connection between the Stranger and FWC. FWC also has a connection to Maya Sundaresh. Since the release of Warmind, we now also have a connection between Sundaresh and Elsie Bray. However, another interesting connection is established during this quest. One step of it takes you to Twilight Gap, where you ultimately receive a bracelet with the personal sigil of none other than Ana Bray, the famous hunter and long-ago sister to Elsie Bray.

Still, there are more threads that connect. Warmind established that Ana helped develop Rasputin into what he is today, so one can assume that Elsie was, if not directly involved, at least tangentially involved with Rasputin as well. Rasputin (or one of his sub-minds) was what saved Sundaresh and her team from the seemingly endless Vex simulation cycle. Rasputin is also aware of the Exo Stranger.

You stand here now and now and now many times and here I am awonder, all awonder, how you manage it. How do you step forward. How do you step back. Do you step ACROSS is there a world of worlds, a web, and you a spider upon it.

(Side note, while the FWC see a CHASM, the Stranger has a BRIDGE so that she might step ACROSS. Where FWC can only view, the Stranger can travel. Wordplay!)

In fact, not only is he aware of her, he knows her. He says so himself.

I know who you are.

He later says that she is "certainly not MINE although once you must have been," and I think this is simply him saying he doesn't have sway over her anymore as an exo. He still knows who she is.

A few remaining questions are: How, when, and why did Elsie Bray become an exo? We know that Clovis Bray created the exos, but why would a member of the Bray family undergo the conversion? The Rasputin Cyphertext Puzzle seems to indicate that it may have been done to save her life:

i would have no life without ana or the exoprogram.

And, in my mind, the biggest question still left is: How did Elsie manage to step into the timeline while Sundaresh and FWC can only view it? To be honest, I don't have an answer.

To sum up (tl;dr, if you will): Elsie and her adopted sister Ana (it's canon) helped create Rasputin. Elsie knew Maya Sundaresh, and they shared knowledge during their time at CB and the Collective. At some point, Elsie became an exo, possibly to save her life. Elsie eventually started utilizing some of the Vex tech she learned of from Sundaresh, which was illegal on Mars. Someone (Willa Bray?) found out about Elsie's use of Collective material. Elsie wiped her research data and retreated into time itself. Thus was the Exo Stranger born. After the Collapse, Elsie likely wanted to find someone anchored in time to help. Who better than the inheritors of Sundaresh's legacy: the Future War Cult? Who else would believe this madness of alternate timelines than ones who've seen it?

And eventually, those timelines seemed to converge on us, the Guardian.

The rest, as they say, is history.

To be honest, I'm not entirely sure why I made this post. To my knowledge, none of it is new info. However, I don't think all of the various connections have been made in a single post before. The web of connections between Elsie, Ana, Maya, Rasputin, and Lakshmi is much more tangled than I could have imagined before diving into the research. I'm not sure we'll ever know how much of this lore was thought out in advance and how much was just the result of happy accidents. But either way, the breadth and depth of Destiny's lore will forever be my favorite part about it.

[Spoiler] After the Forsaken leaks, we have to appreciate Bungie's level of foreshadowing.

Posted: 19 Aug 2018 08:00 PM PDT

Once again, heavy spoiler, please leave if you don't want to read spoilers or anything even remotely close to the topic.

You have been warned.

So like many people, the thought of knowing we will finally encounter an Ahamkara is an exciting thought to say the least. It is something we have been teased with since D1 in so many ways. After doing some re-reading I noticed just how much foreshadowing has been put into Ahamkara as a whole.

We have the obvious like the exotics: Sealed Ahamkara Grasps, Skull of Dire Ahamkara, Young Ahamkara's Spine, Claws of Ahamkara, and the Bones of Eao.

With Forsaken being announced a lot of people were like hey, the Sealed Ahamkara Grasps lore tab sort of talks about this:

"Few things can see the Light, but we are not blinded.

The Bearer seeks the truth, but what separates truth from fiction is fragile.

A pair of truths and a single falsehood upon the Bearer we shall impart.

Brother, ally once more, sends his regards.

Dreamer, awakened, the Bearer shall meet.

Light fades, deep within the Prison."

People took it like it was talking about Uldren and Cayde's death within the Prison of Elders. However, the way I look at it now is that it is talking about Uldren, but then how we are encountering an Ahamkara in its "prison" at the heart of the dreaming city. Hell we saw a snippet of the Raid armor in the Dreaming City trailer, with a helmet very reminiscent of old concept art with Ahamkara, but also the fact that the chest piece is in chains.

Now that we know, assuming the leak is correct, that the Raid's name is "The Last Wish" we can look at it two ways. Are we fulfilling a wish by the Awoken to clear the Dreaming City of it's curse like Petra says in the trailer, or are we granting this "prisoner" Ahamkara it's last wish of freedom from it's prison through death?

We don't know definitively if the Ahamkara are evil, they are just deceiving and always have alterior motives when it comes to receiving payment for that person's wish being granted. Think of them like a Genie. It would flip the role where instead of asking for a wish, we are delivering a wish.

Now these things are pretty front loaded, but it's actually incredible how much tiny foreshadowing there is leading up to this event.

For example, with D1's "Knuckles of Eao" consumable:

"Boons I grant you, oh bearer mine, but debts must be paid in time."

We traded the gift of guaranteed raid rewards for a debt we would pay in the future. You may look at that like it is a stretch, and in certain ways sure. But it gets interesting. Let alone the fact that The Bones of Eao's description was simply:

"Defy extinction".

The Hunter legendary helmet Long Tommorow 9G that was added when The Taken King dropped has something you would look over without thinking. It's little lore excerpt was a simple:

"Some of 'em survived. I know a fellow says he saw a wish dragon on Jupiter a ways back."

Wish dragon is also a common term for an Ahamkara. Someone says they saw one on Jupiter. Alright so what?

A clever redditor hashed a theory that the Tangled Shore is actually what is left of Ceres. Ceres being a dwarf planet near Mars and, you guessed it, Jupiter. Why does this matter? Because if the Tangled Shore is what is left of Ceres, and the Dreaming City is near there, what is to say that Ahamkara didn't find it's way to what is now the Dreaming City.

Does the timeline add up? No idea to be fair, but it is a strong enough link for it to be plausible.

Even with that we have them mentioned all over the place in the Book of Sorrows. As well as being the target of an event carried out system wide through the Great Ahamkara Hunt that is referenced in a lot of places.

The Ahamkara are so interesting because they may very well be the most intelligent beings in Destiny lore, even to go as far as break the fourth wall by talking to the player directly as they do in the Claws of Ahamkara lore tab (which also has a certain phrase in it):

"It's suffocating here, this prison. Do us a favor, o bearer ours. Still your mind; invite us to enter the realm of your capricious thoughts. Your mind is vociferous, addled with worry and doubt. We can extinguish these trifles. Would you like that?

"Yes, we are here. We are not the photons on your screen, or the voice in your head, or the words you read. Shut your eyes—tightly—and you may see us. At least a part of us. Make us real, and in turn we shall reify your thoughts, your dreams."

This Ahamkara is asking us for a favor, and states that it is suffocating in it's prison. They are considered myths at this point, simple legends that people don't believe anymore. That there bones can speak to people, etc. It is asking us to make it real, and in return it "reify your thoughts, your dreams". The roles are flipped, it is asking us for a wish, and if we grant it we get a "reward".

If all of that wasn't enough, when you are going through the mission to reacquire the golden gun super in D2, one of the shadows you walk by quotes a grimoire card from D1 (Ghost Fragment: Warlock). Which talks about two people, one being a hunter, talking about how the speaker "borrowed" a Ahamkara spine from the cryptarchs and ends with:

"And I looked at the piece of spine in my hand and wondered - why did I say that? What moved me to such pride?"

That "spine" being what ends up as hunter gauntlets "Young Ahamkara's Spine" which has in it's lore tab:

"Oh, it's a taste many Guardians develop. I think because they feel a wee bit spectral. All this transmatting leaves one saying "Am I still here? Am I flesh or am I mist?" So, you strap some old bones to your arm, bones that've been unbreakable for an eon, and you feel solid again. More yourself.

"Bearers of a particular species of bone do claim—and mind that I'm not recommending these bones—that the fossils grant them unusual powers. Nothing too wild. A little more of this and that."

The "Am I still here" part is what I wanted to point out, because of the parallel. These gauntlet's made it's bearer feel more like themselves, more real. They made that person, and presumably more people, feel real as they lost hold of themselves. Now they are asking for us to do the same.

By freeing whatever Ahamkara is locked in its prison in the Dreaming City, by whatever definition freeing it means, we are allowing to to no longer be myth or legend, but be what it truly is. A real being. That's it's "Last Wish".

Hope you enjoyed and hope I don't sound too stupid. My first time doing one of these.

Give us 75m range Ghosts for every planet with special quests attached to them just like Mercury.

I loved how with Mercury, we got a special Ghost Shell with completing all of the Forged Weapon Prohecies, and it gave us a 75m range Ghost for finding chests/planet materials. I think that adding something like this for every planet, especially planets like Nessus and Io would enhance the gameplay, and make planet scouring much more immersive and feel just a little bit less "grindy". Of course it would be less relevant for some planets (Looking at you, Titan), but the quest would add more content and even more stuff to do, collect, and it's a big opportunity to add in any content that wasn't put into Adventures/Missions/Patrols.
