What are some interesting mechanics from Civ I - IV that a Civ V and VI player wouldn't know about? Posted: 29 Aug 2018 12:32 PM PDT Hey all. I've never played a civ game before BNW. I heard that in IV, privateers always showed up as a barbarian unit no matter what civ (AI or human) controlled them, which I thought was a fun mechanic. I recently heard that in either II or III if enough nukes are dropped, the ice caps would melt and flood coastal tiles. What are some other really interesting mechanics in the franchise that someone like me wouldn't know about? [link] [comments]
Posted: 29 Aug 2018 07:21 AM PDT I always feel when I play the eras go by too quick, like when I play Japan I get to use samurais for maybe 20 turns and then I have muskets making them obsolete [link] [comments]

Posted: 29 Aug 2018 05:51 PM PDT I've looked up beginner tips for Civ V before and haven't found what I'm looking for. Most tips are related to general strategy, but I'm looking for what I should be doing for production, especially in the early stages of the game. I've tried three times, but no matter what I do it seems like every other player outpaces me in number of units, wonders, buildings and cities. I end up being tiny and weak every time. What should I be prioritizing in the early game so I won't be a joke later on? I'm on 4 difficulty, if it makes any difference. [link] [comments]

Anyone else Not a Fan of Deity/Immortal Posted: 29 Aug 2018 06:02 AM PDT Hey so I recently ended my game on Deity with Rome and it was my first won game(on deity)... and tbh I dont see myself going to do it again. Its just.... tedious. I think Emperor is my groove XD. There you still have certain viable options of diverse strategies. I feel like on deity there is one maybe two and otherwise your done. Plus The AI isnt really any better at war or Diplo. It just gets to cheat. I need to get some peeps together in rl to make a lan party. everyone has somewhat equal start. and its just a battle of wits. [link] [comments]

How are the AI getting pantheons so early? Posted: 29 Aug 2018 10:45 AM PDT It's a bit embarrassing, but I'm a total civ beginner, and I'm wondering how the AI manages to get pantheons so fast. They're getting them as soon as I finish my first shrine. I usually research pottery first, rush the great library, and then go for mining. I build a monument, a scout, and then that's about the time I can start building a shrine. I'm playing Civ 5 with all the DLC. [link] [comments]
Posted: 29 Aug 2018 02:12 PM PDT How do you really take a city effectively, my non ranged military units always just get focused down and die before they can get any city. How do you really take cities? [link] [comments]
Idea I was mulling over to make science less generically powerful Posted: 29 Aug 2018 01:41 PM PDT I like how they unpacked the civics tree from the science tree in Civ 6, and I was wondering whether it would be a good idea to take this further and unpack warfare advancements into a third tree, an "armament tree" so to speak. Right now Science is generally strong, as you get both the scientific advancements AND you get advanced military units, which enables you to be strong even without pouring much dedicated effort into your army. By contrast, pouring an equal amount of effort into culture leaves you more vulnerable than an equal effort put into science. Encampments could provide armaments research points, much like how campuses and theater districts do. I'm not sure how exactly it would need to work, but I think it could be done in a way to make science less generally powerful. Civs that are aggressive but don't have any kind of science steroid would appreciate this (think Zulu), maybe a little too much, could require some rebalancing. Is this idea not as good as I think it is? Sorry if I'm articulating this poorly, English is my first language, I'm just hungry is all. [link] [comments]
Posted: 29 Aug 2018 01:23 PM PDT Hello civ reddit! I'm a middle school teacher with a strategy games elective. I've got some old laptops that run civ iv decently, and I remember there was a patch that allows for playing without the disk. Does anyone have a tip for trying to play LAN games with up to 15 people? I have only 3 disks... [link] [comments]
Does rank of a diplomat actually matter? Posted: 29 Aug 2018 07:09 AM PDT Is there any advantage of a high ranked diplomat? Does a high ranked diplomat gives you better intrigues? Like knowing exactly towards where the AI is "launching a sneak attack"? I always get the "we don't know which civ they are targetting." I always use my Recruit spies as diplomats, higher ranked ones I use for CS election rigging and coup, and stealing techs. I always thought that rank of a diplomat doesn't matter. Can the "Abundant" resource setting affect features other than resources? Posted: 29 Aug 2018 12:31 PM PDT I used Abundant for my past two games. Besides lots of resources, rivers seemed more common. Also, the mountain ranges were really interesting--lots of inlets creating +3 or +4 adjacency bonus tile opportunities. Maybe it was just luck? I had become so used to boring maps! Btw it was Standard size, Continents, all other stuff default except for abundant resources. Rise & Fall w/no mods. [link] [comments]
Can’t delete Great Prophets Civ VI Posted: 29 Aug 2018 04:03 PM PDT How do you delete them? It is not letting me delete Siddhartha Gautama. I never play religious victory. [link] [comments] |
