Lydia, the real MVP. To me she's not a meme or a disposable lackey, she's been a loyal friend to many dragonborns over the years. I'm currently doing a playthrough where she will journey every quest with me. Here's to you, and the burdens you carry.

New player and I'm learning lots the hard way... [Come have some laughs]

Posted: 05 Jul 2018 08:58 PM PDT

So I bought Skyrim for Nintendo Switch a few days ago and have been addicted to it since. Unfortunately, I learnt a few things the hard way... if anyone can offer general noob assistance, that would be great! Otherwise, have a few good laughs at the silly things I've done so far to date...

  1. I got to Riverwood as my first town and walked into the first shop to buy/sell items. The games I'm used to, you can't sell equipment you're currently wearing. So I accidentally sold everything and my Wood Elf was left standing in her underwear inside the store. I was still too poor to afford anything so for a good chunk of the first part of the game (exploring Riverwood and Whiterun) I ran about in bra and panties while all the NPCs around me asked me to put clothes on. Taking "skimpy female armour" to a whole new level.

  2. After clearing a bounty quest in Halted Stream Camp, I leave through the back exit and die on the spikes. When I respawn, I repsawned ON TOP OF THE SPIKES and died again in an endless cycle... needless to say I loaded an earlier save and had to do the quest again.

  3. Later on, I talked to Amren and had to go back to Halted Stream Camp to retrieve the family sword. Unfortunately for me, I completely forgot about the spikes at the back and so had to re-attempt the quest. Again.

  4. I was making my way west and decided to fast travel to Western Watchtower to save a little extra time. I was lucky enough to be plopped into the middle of a fight between a giant, a mammoth and a dragon. I killed the dragon with the help of the giant and then turned around to kill this giant. Except I got one shot by this guy and I flew hundreds of feet into the air.

  5. I finally decide it's time for me to meet the Greybeards in High Hrothgar so Lydia and I start the climb. I run into the ice troll and die so the next time around, I sent Lydia first. I wasn't aware that when followers die, they die permanently; I thought they just respawned back in their hometown. RIP Lydia.

  6. So I headed back to Riverwood to pick up Sven for our adventures in looting and pillaging villages. A Whiterun Guard sends some Hired Thugs to kill me while I was smithing stuff at Alvor's and brave Sven dies in that fight. His body has been lying on Alvor's porch for well over 2 in-game weeks... which begs the question, do dead bodies ever disappear? I killed the family at Pelagia Farm and their bodies were gone within 2 or 3 days but Sven's is still there.

  7. Just this morning, I completed enough Riften quests to purchase Honeyside. It comes with a nice garden and some chickens and so I thought I would fill up some of my soul gems with the chickens. I somehow botched that up and the chickens ran away towards Riften marketplace with Farkas chasing after them like mad. (Yeah, I decided to recruit Farkas by taking the Companions quest but not actually doing it because once I realised Farkas can't die, I figured I might keep him around for as long as possible.) A Riften guard runs up to me but I sheathe my weapons and he loses hostility. After clearing out my garden, I walk into Honeyside to use my Alchemy Lab downstairs but am immediately ambushed by Iona. I can't talk to her or anything and I didn't want to kill her. So I reloaded a previous save (which was 30 minutes ago) and went back to Riften. She was fine. I guess she didn't like that I tried to kill MY chickens.

TLDR: Don't kill chickens in Skyrim otherwise your housecarl will kill you.

Edit: Added my first buying/selling experience

A Community Playthrough

Posted: 05 Jul 2018 10:44 PM PDT

So, like many who play Skyrim, you've probably eventually found yourself in a rut. You've plundered your dungeons, finished your quests, and caught a bad case of restartitis and have never been able to find a potion of cure disease. Well fear no longer, because I propose a solution.

A community play through. Each week, we sticky a new post where we update each other on what's happened in our games. We follow some sort of book club rules like: Only play to level 10 this week, or make sure to read these three in game books this week.

We tally how many things we did with the book club style and then talk about how our runs are going, what bugs we've encountered and how to fix them and whatnot.

I personally think this has a ton of potential and we could all share a fun time while reliving a single player game and sharing our adventures as a community.

So, I'm not a mod or anything, but if you like the idea, make sure to say so, or if you don't, share why.

I'm hoping we can make this a reality so we can all enjoy a game and make a title that seems eternal, last a bit longer.

Anyone find it ironic that the guy at the start that was executed would have lived had he.

listened to Arkay's (God of life and death) blessing since Mr dragon would have came during the blessing.

"Best" hearthfire house?

Posted: 06 Jul 2018 05:45 AM PDT

What house is the most friendly in regards to enemies and problems popping up around it?

I ask because I've heard issues of one house having giants spawn in and around it. And I'd rather not deal with that. Is there any issues like that with the other two houses?
