Hello! We wanted to take a bit of time to discuss Operator Balancing as part of the new "Designer's Notes" series. The goal of this AMA is to answer general questions that you have about the Operator Balancing process, the data behind it, and more specifically, the points raised in the Designer's Notes Y3S2.2 blog. We will be back at 2:00pm EDT to begin answering questions.

Brief Intros

Jean-Baptiste Hallé, Game Designer – I used to work on Operators conception and production, but now work on Operator balancing, Operator reworks and systems changes.

Geoffroy Mouret, Data Scientist – I have been working on Siege since its release. I provide people with data and warn them about the danger of straightforward conclusions. Smoke and Thatcher main. Board games enthusiast. Pie charts hater.

Julien Huguenin, User Research Project Manager – I mostly work to get the best insights from our players (pro or not) on upcoming & live content, and advise the team on how to use them. Will sometimes creep into your Twitch stream to listen to you rant about the game.

I don't think this harms anybody although it would be hard for some people who don't own a specific CTU but after all this would be nice from Ubi if they did it.

Does anyone else go through phases of being awful at the game?

I just go through phases where I go rounds and even games without a kill. My aim goes all of and I always seem to die instantly. I don't know if it's just me or it happens to other people. It just happens randomly. One game I will be fine getting 5-10 kills a game then for the next 10 I will get 0-1 a game. Does this happen to anyone else?

Not much to do in this game but play stale af ranked, but grinding for legendaries gives me an incentive to play. But getting the Lesion headgear duplicate last week, and then again with the challenge makes me want to put the game down for a while. Ubi want people to play the game for long then reward them, not throw 6k their way and slam the door in their face.

Legendary Headgear for Operators should be an achievement unlock for doing that Operator's special thing, not a random Alpha Pack item

For example, 1,000 drones deceived for Vigil, 1,000 enemy poisoned with gu for Lesion, 1,000 reinforced walls breached for Thermite / Hibana, etc. I'm sure some operators would be harder than others.

There are several really cool Legendary headgear items for operators and it would be a nice reward for playing different operators over an extended period of time and using their abilities, rather than having to rely on the RNG of an alpha pack.
