What the AI does in all my games every time it sees a city state.

When I make war in Civ, I like to capture the enemy Capital and leave them with a small number of cities, effectively taking them out of the game without actually doing so. Sometimes I also leave a reminder of why you should never attack my city-state allies. (No nukes)

Civ VI suggestion: make changing government dealable

Posted: 07 Jul 2018 10:25 AM PDT

In my most recent game, I was playing as a democracy and DoWd Fascist Japan using the ideological war casus belli. But I was disappointed to see that there was no ability to force Japan to change ideology after the war. I feel like this should be an option, and that specifically for ideological wars, if you don't succeed in forcing a government change then you should have a penalty (or maybe it would just reduce the cost of that in the peace dealing).

Thoughts? I think ideology had a lot more influence in previous civs and wish they would expand upon it in VI. If the next DLC is about deplomacy then maybe we'll get lucky. I loved how cultural dominance over a Civ with a different ideology in V made the people very unhappy and possibly rise up in revolt until it was changed. Things like this made the ideology choice feel much more consequential than a number on your relationship screen.

Help with the jump from King to Emperor: Civ 5

Posted: 07 Jul 2018 03:38 PM PDT

I've gotten used to King but when I went to Emperor it was a train wreck. I did what I normally do for King:

Research pottery, animal husbandry, then writing

In order: build scout, monument granary, shrine, library (shrine and library maybe switched) then settler

Steal worker(s) from a city state

But I'm always behind in tech by a long shot (generally play tall and scientific) and my cities are no where near the production/growth of the AI's. I'm thinking it's because of my slow, passive play style but I honestly don't know. :/

Thanks for any help you can give!

Does this laptop meet the absolute minimum requirements to run civ vi? Don't care if I have to run it on minimum graphics, I just really want to play Civ Vi

All around...just obnoxious neighbors

Posted: 07 Jul 2018 05:40 PM PDT

I was playing Civ 5 on Warlord, and a civ I was friendly with (France) suddenly waged war on me. He took a city and then negotiated peace. Can anyone explain why Napoleon is being bipolar?

Posted: 07 Jul 2018 05:36 PM PDT

The only provocation was that I built a city near him, but that was almost 25 turns earlier.

Anyone know any strategies to avoid warmongering penalties?

Posted: 07 Jul 2018 07:10 PM PDT

Whenever I defend myself against other Civs I always get serious warmongering penalties and I want to know how to avoid those kinds of penalties. I will always take a few cities if I feel they have resources I need or if they have a strategic significance so I know that gives me warmonger penalties but is there a way to mitigate them? Any tips would be helpful. Thanks!

Did they nerf Magnus more than I thought?

Posted: 07 Jul 2018 06:22 PM PDT

So I've been playing with the spring update as it recently came out for Mac, and I was aware of the 100 percent to 50 percent nerf of Magnus, but did they also remove the production overflow part of the exploit? I was chopping wonders last night and I decided to test it, so I chopped with Magnus on and no production overflow and the Colossus went from 11 to 7 turns. Then I reloaded and set the city to build a galley (with the 100% card and my city's high production it was 1 turn,) chopped and the Colossus was still 7 turns. Does anyone know if the production overflow was removed in the spring update?

The sound that plays when you start the game is too dang loud!

Posted: 07 Jul 2018 05:27 PM PDT

This is a minor quibble but is probably my biggest complaint about the game. The sound that plays when you start the game is too dang loud! Can we ask Firaxis to please turn it down, like, 50%? It would be a HUGE quality-of-life improvement to the game.

Does every map have every resource (how to get [iron] if not near city)?

Posted: 07 Jul 2018 04:30 PM PDT

edit: Civ6

Playing first game now. Trying ot make Knights. Looks like I need Iron. I've auto-scouted most of hte map at this point, and still don't see an Iron icon. Does every map have one?

If it exists in my map, it will be in the opposite corner, and I will not be able to set up a base there obviously. Would there be a way to initiate trade/buy it from a market?

Thanks

Production

Is the production gained from encampment buildings only for unit production or is it for all city production?

When do city-states close their borders? [Civ 6]

Posted: 07 Jul 2018 06:53 AM PDT

As far as I know, in the beginning of the game you can just enter the territory of a city-state. Then suddenly you cant anymore and you can only enter again if ur the suzerain. Does anyone know when this happens?
