True Dota 2 - Doom, which creeps to devour?

Doom, which creeps to devour?

Posted: 13 Jun 2018 08:38 AM PDT

Hey guys, I'm a 4k MMR offlaner and I've been playing Doom for a few years now. What I really enjoy about the hero is the flexibility in the skill build, item build and the devoured abilities.
Now most people just seem to either get the Centaur creep for the AoE stun or the alpha wolf for the damage aura. However I feel like there are a lot of other very interesting creeps you can pick up depending on your game.
Specifically the Satyr Banisher seems like such a good creep to pick up in general. Omni is a popular pick and this creep allows you do remove Guardian Angel on two heroes (One with Purge and one with Doom). That's enough to completely negate the effect of GA if your team's focus is good.
It also purges Windrun which destroys Windrunners relying on it for an easy escape. It removes Shadow Word and Fatal Bonds, which is huge sind Warlock is in every game now yet I never see people pick this one up.
The Dark Troll Summoner offers a BKB piercing ranged snare which has been buffed in the past few patches as they kept buffing Rod of Atos. This creep enables Doom to cancel a hero's TP with Linkens and BKB activated. This also gives you a reliable way to pop Linkens through BKB.
Other interesting abilities are Mana Aura (even this it's probably worse than the big Satyr creep for the lane). and Frost attack which stacks with your Infernal Blade slow and Ice armor. I feel like all of these can be better than the Centaur Stomp. What are your thoughts guys? Am I just overthinking this and should just get the Centaur?

Given that Radiant has a win rate advantage over Dire, are there specific heroes or strategies that have an advantage on Dire side?

Posted: 13 Jun 2018 09:05 AM PDT

Post. Despite the win rate difference, dire should have some advantages that you can play around. Like venomancer / Dire triangle farming etc.

Do you have any hero or strategy recs that specifically work better on Dire than Radiant?

It takes me 3+ games to "warm up". It's been worse lately and it's killing my games.

Posted: 13 Jun 2018 02:08 AM PDT

I'm not trying to be bad. I'm actually pretty good... But the first few games I play like a bot. Like I haven't had coffee yet or something. After I manage to grind a few out I think about the game more, get more last hits, out cs the enemy laner, positioning everything. It's rough, I've tried turbo and it hasn't worked out well. Should I get a smurf or something and play on that?

5.4k mmr carry player.

sorry if this isn't appropriate for this subreddit.

What am I doing wrong against Bristleback?

Posted: 13 Jun 2018 11:13 AM PDT

I'm picking Slark/DK against him, I go 4-0 in lane, but after 7 minutes whenever we try to kill him he kills my support first anyways. He's going 0-4 against me and still getting Vanguard at a reasonable time. Should I be zoning and denying more and going for kills less? Isn't it worse to let him sit in lane and get half or so xp?

Feel like the meta is leaving me behind, can someone break down what's good right now?

Posted: 13 Jun 2018 11:44 AM PDT

Kind of feels like just running at people and killing them is all that matters right now. Any kind of other strategy seems to just get crushed in my pubs. Just grouping and running around like a chicken with no head seems really good, not quite deathballing, but just insane aggression. Am I dumb?

Is annoying the other team a good way to win?

Posted: 13 Jun 2018 07:00 AM PDT

I try as best as possible these days to get into the other team's head. For example, picking SB when I see a sniper and repeatedly charging them and killing over and over. What are the best ways to piss off the opponent so they tilt?

Orbital luna.

Posted: 13 Jun 2018 02:55 PM PDT

I'm really liking magic luna, if i have a right click mid and some set up like void. Anybody know the optimum build? I experimenting with several paths at the moment but would love to hear what ya'll thought the best was.

I always go veil after RoA. really helps her lane survivability and kill potential.

Do communication improve when you in higher MMR?

Posted: 13 Jun 2018 01:09 PM PDT

From my experience, only gameplay is changing, lack of communication stills the problem mostly. I start from 2.8k mmr, now im at 4.2k mmr after whole year grinding.

What MMR will start communicates?

Would like to get good with Venomancer again

Posted: 13 Jun 2018 04:13 AM PDT

Hello guys,

I used to play a LOT of Venomancer support like 3/4 years ago. It was my first hero that I got decent enough to learn the game.

Usually I would just max Q and W, go support in the safelane, pair with a core that had a slow/disable and get like 5-10 kills early because my opponents were retarded and didn't know that you could TP back to base when you didn't get stunned, or just pick a hero that purges debuffs (for example LC, abbadon) . From there, my mate was just too far ahead in terms of farm and XP for the enemy team to be able to do a comeback.

So a few months ago, because of nostalgia I wanted to win games again with Venomancer. But as you can guess that didn't went so well. Even if the enemy team isn't retarded, support Venomancer feels very underwhelming (feels like a shit version of support Silencer, that isn't really reliable by itself).

So I'm asking here, how do you play core Venomancer? I'm asking about gameplay, item and ability builds, matchups with your team and enemy team, best lane/role to take, power spikes with his items and abilities timings and so on. Does Venomancer get completely countered by Pipe? What do you do when the enemy team gets it? Because I used to ignore wards at the start of the game, how do you play with your wards at the laning phase (I guess you could feed a lot gold spamming level 1 wards)?

Beastmaster is insanely fun

Posted: 12 Jun 2018 05:53 PM PDT

I wanna start playing a lot of Beastmaster as the hero is strong and kinda fits my playstyle, but i don't have much idea how to play him properly. So i've watched a few games and i have some questions. Feel free to give some tips too, it's most welcome.

  1. What are your control groups ? I have 1 for my hero, 2 for Boar + random neutral and 3 for Hawk, but i'm not sure you always want the Boar and the random neutral to do the same thing.

  2. When do you cut the trees between the offlane and the low ground ? I do this whenever there is a ranged hero trying to harass me from behind these trees/i fear a gank, which is almost always, but not sure it's always right.

  3. Do you go Bottle if you couldn't get it before the 5 minute mark ? It's more general but it looks like Bottle is essential on Beast although getting a 6 minutes Bottle feels awkward.

  4. What makes Necro so important ? I'm a support main so maybe i have some terrible habits, but i usually get Medallion + Blink and then slow down on my farm, only pushing one lane and ganking, and towers fall fast enough already.

  5. Would you rather die than Roar defensively before you hit level 12 ? Again my bad support habits, but i feel bad wasting such a long cooldown just to save an offlaner's life.

  6. What do you do with your Boar ? I only use it to slow enemies and attack towers, which seems kinda limited.

  7. Do you often pick the Hawk army talent ? It gives insane vision but i haven't seen it being picked at all. +40 as is really that important ?

Why is techies getting picked up so much lately in pubs?

Posted: 12 Jun 2018 05:00 PM PDT

Haven't been playing much ranked lately so can't speak for that, but in pubs lately I've been seeing techies at least 1 in every 3 matches. Honestly reminds me of how much used to see pudge, who's been m.i.a. lately too.

what changed recently that made everyone and their brother decide this is the time to play techies.

Small list of ways Valve has fucked up DotA.

Posted: 12 Jun 2018 06:35 PM PDT

Just a small list of the things currently pissing me off about this ((free)) game that we all know and love:

  • Complete and utter abandonment of all forms of social/community or meaningful way to meet and learn and play with others besides 1x week battlecup (this assumes you have 4 friends who still play this game, all of mine have quit).
  • Instead we get (if we pay for them) battlepass mini-games, and cosmetics literally MOBA bread and circuses.
  • Kowtows and caters to literally every redditmob whim, no matter how retarded.
  • Hero pool unquestioanbly less balanced than it's ever been (not counting DOTA 1), not even sure this is a problem with the heroes and moreso a problem with the itembase/map/meta we have today. Winrate discrepancies like Tiny vs Bloodseeker are almost surreal.
  • Hero power curves are completely bonkers, just look at the power curve of your average Invoker game, hero goes from dumpster to Godlike every 7 minutes, a truly unique hero!
  • Ridiculous map changes that heavily favor Radiant (meant to fix a minor discrepancy that favored Dire in pro games, whereas pub games were still Radiant favored by a small margin, i.e. it was fine to just leave it alone).
  • Hardcoded brawler meta to cater to twitch viewers, (with almost no respect to what it feels like to play the actual game).
  • Le epic talent system that changes every week and creates retarded 'gotcha' power spikes.
  • Ridiculous cosmetic cashgrabs that almost make some heroes unrecognizable or just shower them in particles, despite Valve's own promise and instructions to preserve glance value (https://support.steampowered.com/kb/9334-YDXV-8590/dota-2-workshop-character-art-guide#palettes), guaranteed to sell a lot since they make you stand "out" which for many people is worth paying for.
  • Don't forget about the Immortals changing skill effects to completely different colors, appearances, etc.
  • Even when you WIN it just feels like you played a successful series of mini-games of grabbing runes, waiting for glyph/fortify, Roshan, and vision control. (I wish I was joking). Watching old DOTA footage feels like being freed from a prison of stupid and artificial brick walls.
  • Dota+ is totally trivial and stupid besides the free Battlecup ticket, despite the possibility (and implication) that it would be so much more.
  • Battlecup is great when the coordinator doesn't completely shit the bed with no apology from Valve for people's weekend night's time possibly being wasted.
  • oh how could i forget the fucking retarded amounts of health on strength heroes right now

It's fine, this is the natural course of the game, and eventually when no one wants to play it anymore, because it's basically just a DOTA-simulator they will release DOTA CLASSIC (just like Blizzard) and promise us they won't fuck it up this time, and then the cycle will likely repeat.

I will give Icefrog/Valve credit on fixing the retarded memeback patch and the retarded AoE gold. At least they seem to be able to acknowledge when they *royally fuck up the game.*
