The Legend of Zelda - Lots of speculation about SSHD. Is there a definitive answer yet?

Lots of speculation about SSHD. Is there a definitive answer yet?

I was kinda hoping we'd see Skyward Sword HD this year at E3. So far, when I look it up, all I see is speculation as to whether or not it's even in development. It's not my favorite game in the series but I'd really like to have all the main games in the series on one console. And it's decent enough to want to see touched up, especially since the Wii was so outdated in comparison to it's peers.

From what I understand, it's relatively easy to give a game the HD treatment. I was told (because I really don't know stuff like this) that the game was already developed in HD, but scaled it down to match the console's capabilities. And, like with OoT, MM, and TP, would be developed by a third party needing little involvement from Nintendo.

Got a Master Sword replica for my birthday yesterday. The blade is a little different, but overall it's quite nice. Might put it up on my wall soon.

Similarities to Lord of the Rings

Posted: 10 Jun 2018 04:04 AM PDT

This refers to BOTW as it's the only Zelda game I've played (I know, I know!). It's become one of my favorite games of all time over the last year, and I think for similar reasons as to why the Lord of the Rings books are my favorite books. Playing through the game, the similarities are undeniable at times in my opinion.

There's a near-apocalyptic setting in BOTW, as Ganon is gaining strength and preparing to take over Hyrule. This is extremely similar to LOTR and how almost everyone acknowledges that they are doomed and that Sauron will soon begin to conquer Middle Earth. This leads me to Ganon and Sauron. Both are shapeless entities of evil that are incredibly powerful, and want to take over the world. Both use minions as a means to succeed in their conquest.

The last big comparison I want to mention is related to the themes. Both have a very simple, yet powerful good vs evil theme, and both do s great job at showing two completely opposite sides of the spectrum in terms of good and bad, for example Hateno Village and the Shire both serve as a way to make you emotionally invested in the good side, and want to stop the bad guy. Both Hyrule Castle and Mordor show what a world devoured by evil would look like, and show what will happen if the good side loses.

These are the main similarities I can think of, but of course they are also both fantasy worlds with similar creatures and locations. I don't want to say that Zelda is directly inspired by LOTR, but I do believe that BOTW is in many ways. What do you think?

Anyway, this was just me rambling on about some of my favorite things at the moment, so yeah lol.

Majora's Mask Link in Smash!

Posted: 09 Jun 2018 11:35 PM PDT

I'm sure it's been said before, but wouldn't it be absolutely dope if we could use Link from Majora's Mask in a Smash Game?

I can actually totally visualise it too! Transforming can be a similar mechanic to the Pokémon Trainer switching in Brawl.

I can actually picture each version of Link and their attacks, like Goron Link rolling around, Fire punching, and Ground Pounding, Zora Link being a fast character with projectiles with his Boomerangs, and Deku Link, well.. being agile, I guess? And I suppose they could allow him to fly with the Deku Flowers (yes, I know that you can't just pull a Deku Flower out of nowhere, but the game doesn't have to be 100% accurate).

And of course, the Final Smash would be Fierce Deity Link.

Like I said, I'm sure many people have thought about this and mentioned this earlier, but the implications of something like this just hit me, and I wanted to share my hype with someone!

Majora's Mask and healing

Posted: 09 Jun 2018 03:01 PM PDT

I think that Majora is The Happy Mask Salesman's negative traits.

This is apparent in the moon itself with all the little versions of him running around, it's not just an a place, it's a memory, All the masks were probably hexing masks worn by the children (possibly the tribe?), who seem long gone and the masks are under Majora's power, so by gaining these masks of Majora's long lost friends, you are "unlocking" Majora's inner anger, you are now invited to "play" as Fierce Deity because Majora is punishing itself over not having friends.

When Majora is defeated, Happy Mask Salesman is shown to just randomly disappear off into nonexistence, rather coincidentally after stating the mask was now.powerless, meaning he may have been a spirit himself, a restless soul.

To sum up: Majora manifested THMS's subconscious feelings about having shitty friends, but after seeing Skull Kid make amends with the Giants after causing them so much trouble because they never paid him attention, he can finally move on and tells Link and Skull Kid that friendships can be made to last even if they never meet again.

Is there such thing as overkill?

The helmasaur king in ALTTP was the only boss to kill me since I was a little kid. So I went and did some things before a rematch. Facing off with 35 bombs 50 arrows, 13 hearts, and a 1/2 on my magic meter.

So, seeing as Zelda speaks with an English accent in BotW, does this imply that all the previous Zeldas' did too?

Posted: 09 Jun 2018 03:16 PM PDT

Because when playing the older games, I can now only imagine the other Zeldas talking with the BotW voice

(or variations of it)

Finally reached the first Divine Beast... in my novelization!

Posted: 09 Jun 2018 11:11 AM PDT

Hey, everyone, I hope I'm not breaking some subreddit protocol here, but I'm pretty excited about this. Since March, I've been posting chapters to my ongoing Breath of the Wild novelization to various sites online. I just posted the latest chapter, which concludes the very first Divine Beast. My writing has actually taken me well beyond this now--about to start the third Divine Beast--but I'm steadily posting chapters about twice a week to ensure I've got time to keep writing and editing the older chapters.

I'm pretty proud of this story. While the overall story follows the general plot of the game, I've done a lot to try to flesh it out and make it into a true fantasy epic. My biggest focus, by far, is in fleshing out the characters and the world itself. I knew when I started this, I wanted the land of Hyrule to be as much a player in the story as Link was himself.

It's looking like it's going to end up being between 300-350,000 words by the time it's concluded. The chapters online so far include roughly a third of the novel (one more chapter will herald the end of part one of three), while I've about concluded the second part in my extended writing. My plan and current rate of writing should hopefully see this complete by the end of the year. Once I finish writing, my chapter posting rate will pick up, as I will turn my entire focus on editing the previous chapters.

If any of you are interested in reading it, here is the link. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild I'd love to know what you all think about it.
