Last year the finals was also a Best of 7 and went to Game 5, and lasted about 45 minutes. A couple months ago I worked on another big project that I posted here and at the end I had the intention to updating it. Like last time, this post reads as a follow up to /u/BarnardsLoop data post, and I recommend looking at it before this. PGRv3 in many ways (banning Duck Hunt Stage forever, Bayo back at top level, ABC evaluation of events) can be seen as the beginning of the modern era of Smash 4. In order to build the final Tier List, the plan was to take multiple ideas of evaluating characters and putting them together. This imgur post contains 4 tier lists to visualize these ideas, description below. https://m.imgur.com/gallery/Jwghpnx Going in order, first is Meta %, the total percentage of each character as they appeared in the data. Pro Score %, deriving from the Meta % but only taking the Top 16 of A/S Tiers for data, to express the frequency of characters at top level. Peak Placements: Showing the best performances of each character in the 3 season period And lastly PGR Norms, norms meaning wins in this case, to show the quality of wins characters have achieved. *Another point of evaluation is the 3 peak placements in the spreadsheet. Characters that remain consistent, drop, or rise between these 3 periods is another point of evaluating characters in the final tier list, and success is heavily skewed towards v5 as the assumption is that competition increases as the game gets older. These thoughts and more will be shared in the write up which will be coming later, I need to go to bed the sun's coming up. Write Up: Okay back to finish this. I apologize for screwing up on not posting the Sheets list, if you have missed that please go back and check it, I will be referncing it a lot. For the most part I'll give quick answers to everything. S Tier confusion: My bad, The Letter Tiers mean Tier 1 Tier 2 etc. In this case S Tier contains the bulk of top level results. (M2, Sonic and Mario are a bit lacking in this case). Jiggs > Kirby? BJ bottom 3?: From Falco down, the bottom tier is a mess of some mediocre almost non-existant results, and thats pretty much the order of it. Kirby and BJ have the absolute worst results out of all the characters (the miis dont even count). Theory isnt much when your character has done nothing. Using Consistency instead of Theory: In the data sheet I listed the three best placings of a character in PGR v3-v5 respectively, trying to find consistency in characters as a part of the ranking. (This is where Captain Falcon suffers, as he has crazy peaks in v3 and v5 but a significant low in v4.) Given a year and a half of collecting data, ALL CHARACTERS were given an ample amount of time to get results. How are DK/Bowser bad when Tweek/Nairo pull them out and take games at majors? Well this is a good question. However these counterpicks have been figured out at the top level, and nowadays the heavies get countercounter picked by Bayo, not a good day for them. In terms of their solo main records, they get blown out very quickly with a tremendous amount of bad match ups. DK does a little bit better in this regard though, as the frequency of Clouds at any given tournament can give him favorable brackets. Marcina the same? Yes, The bulk of Lucina results actually come as a co-main to Marth, and the best Marth mains have used Lucina. There isnt much reason to separate the two data wise.
