Silent Wolf Needs Our Help

Posted: 26 Jun 2018 07:14 PM PDT

As most of you probably know, Otto retired from competitive Melee at the beginning of 2018 from lack of interest in the game. He has been suffering from chronic tendinitis and has been trying to recover from it for quite some time now. On top of that, recently he has damaged both of his ankles. He didn't want to go to the doctor when he started feeling his ankle pain due to his financial situation and lack of health insurance. Eventually, he went to the doctor after not being able to bare the pain. Going to the doctor caused him to exceed his financial bounds.

About a month ago, Otto set up a donation goal on his stream to pay off the cost of the doctor bills and various other things he needed to buy to improve his health. The goal is to reach $750 by August 7th. As of this post, his viewers have got him up to $375. I think that this goal can easily be reached. The Smash community is very supportive and has helped many people in need.

Otto is one of my favorite Melee players and streamers. He is very entertaining and it would mean so much if we could try to help him out. I am unable to provide support to the cause, so I thought the least I could do was make a post here. Right now, he has been speedrunning Pokemon Stadium 2. He got the World Record for the first game, so he has now tackled the 2nd game in attempt to get the WR here as well. He is already a minute away from the WR and after he achieves that, he plans to move on to Mario Superstar Baseball and possibly other things.

Anyways, I hope that this can possibly help Otto out. Thank you all for reading if you've made it this far. You can find all the information regarding his situation and donation goal here.

Current Representation in Smash Ultimate

It’s unlikely, but I would love to see a Sarasaland Stage. It would be a cool throwback stage and would be the perfect stage for Daisy.

don't let all the smash ultimate hype distract you from the fact that melee light, the in-browser version of melee that was all the rage a little while ago, recently finished falco and has a playable demo out with captain falcon

Young Link Milk

Posted: 26 Jun 2018 10:50 AM PDT

What if Sakurai implented a 1% heal on Young Link's milk taunt since in OoT you would obviously regain hearts if you drank some LonLon Ranch Milk.

Think of the future tourneys where Milk taunting is apart of your strategy to get that 1% advantage lmao.

Even if they're not all tournament legal, these are still fun to play with friends and its amazing that there's this many good stages (thanks to hazard disable)

Screw Poke Floats. Give us Trophy Floats.

Posted: 26 Jun 2018 07:29 AM PDT

So remember in Melee how there were a few "Trophy Tussle" events that allowed you to battle on top of trophies for a chance at getting said trophies? Wouldn't it be cool if they did something similar as a new type of stage in the stage builder where you can generate Poke Floats-styled levels based around a handful of the trophies you've collected? Not only would it give an actual use for your trophies beyond just having a collection, but it would make getting some of your favorite trophies more worthwhile.

Hell, at that point we could just make our own versions of the original Poke Floats.

The Bayonetta hate, explained with boxing metaphors

Posted: 26 Jun 2018 10:19 AM PDT

Say there are two boxers with relatively similar records for getting consistent wins. They don't win all the time, but they absolutely have a reputation for getting results.

The first boxer is known as "Vance the Trance", known for dancing around his opponents so much that they routinely become confused, almost hypnotized. Once Vance has started this routine, the match is basically over, but the thing is, the audience LOVES watching it, because Vance takes his time. He doesn't have the raw strength of some of the other boxers, so he makes up for it with finesse, often stretching the match out 6-7 rounds before wearing his opponent down and delivering the KO punch.

Then, there's "One-Hit Schmidt", a lumbering behemoth of a man, known for hiding behind his gloves (making it impossible to really hurt him because his huge gloves keep him out of harm's way, and make it VERY difficult to KO him) until he sees an opportunity and then KOs his opponent in one...single...punch, usually in round 1.

The audience hates this, having paid to see a boxing match and instead don't even get to watch a whole round.

It doesn't matter if Vance (aka Melee Fox) has a better record than Schmidt (aka Bayonetta). All that matters is that Vance is at least fun to watch while Schmidt is the antithesis of fun.

No one wants to see a match that ends in one hit. There's no sense of struggle, no tension behind what the outcome will be, just one hit that hastens the match to its conclusion.

This is why audiences hate Bayonetta so much: no one likes watching a single hit that leads to a stock loss, especially when the other player can play perfectly up until that point and still lose because they left themselves open even once.

Not saying it's justified at all, I'm just explaining it since I've seen enough confusion about why Bayo gets so much hate that I figured explaining it might help.

Elementary (CBS) Makes More References to Melee Players In This Week's Episode (S6E9)

Posted: 26 Jun 2018 10:28 AM PDT

Spoilers for Elementary S6 E09

The two references were a red herring character named "Hugo", an eccentric but ultimately harmless fast food worker who believes modern medicine is an afront to god, and the real murderer, who goes by the screenname "Plup", whose intentions were to murder two scientists so that he would inherit the prize money that his father would ultimately be giving them.

This is the 3rd time Elementary has included references to Melee players, the first being in S5E6 where two post-its are shown to represent suspects with the names "Hungrybox" and "Silent Wolf", and the second being in S5E14 where DJ Nintendo and The Moon appeared as extras, basically playing themselves as members of the fictional esports team ProFine.
