DEAR NIANTIC - ideas and suggestions for the devs

Posted: 18 Jun 2018 11:36 AM PDT

Hey Niantic! You guys made a game we all have a lot of feelings about...and this is our spot to express those feelings and make some statements about ways we think the game could be even better for us - and by extension, you!

If you want to complain about the game in a less constructive way please do so in the Salty Sunday - Rage Rants and complaints thread.

Here you will find ideas and suggestions - a mix of the positive posts and constructive criticism that reddit's Pokemon Go community have compiled and discussed and up/downvoted by importance and validity for us all. If there's one post on /r/pokemongo you guys should be paying attention to, it's this one, so please do.

Hey /r/PokemonGo Trainers! This recurring monthly post is for you guys. Sort posts by "top" to see what has been voted most important so far, but consider sorting by "new" as well to weigh in on the most recent ideas!

Please pay attention to the /r/PokemonGo rules for commenting behavior and civility, and use the report button when necessary to alert the mods to any post or thread that needs a review!

Niantic is on fire! (Edit)

Posted: 18 Jun 2018 08:56 AM PDT

Edit: It seems like my previous post was removed from TSR, so I decided to move it here instead! I normally don't post here too often, but this sub seems like the more better place for this sort of thing so I hope none of you mind my presence too much.

Anyways, with Research quests, cleverly planned out events, new releases and community days Niantic is on complete fire! There's been a lot of speculation on whether or not trading would ever come into the game, and if so how it would be implemented to handle with and deal with cheaters.

I'm sure this is a method that pretty much no one ever expected, and this actually makes things a hundred times more interesting and benefits players all around. I've heard about a lot of people who quit GO because there was a lack of core mechanics, and others who argued that the game should have been fundamental from the very beginning and refuse to support the game because of these reasons.

However, Niantic has come a long way from their version early release back in 2016, and I'm super proud of how far we've all come! Although Pokémon GO had a very rocky start from their early access release, each year brought with us new memories and you can't say that Niantic hasn't gotten their act together and hasn't learned from their past and unfortunate mistakes.

I've been a longtime fan of Pokémon ever since I was little, and I've been playing GO since day one and I still wouldn't change a single thing about it. I've always had high hopes for this game, and it's never about where the journey starts but instead where it ends.

Anyone who says that Pokémon GO is dead is completely wrong, and I'm super excited for the future to come with all of my fellow trainers! Thanks for making such an amazing game Niantic, and with trading maybe my dreams of collecting them all and becoming an official Shiny hunter will finally come true.

Happy hunting fellow trainers, and the best of luck to all of you!

~Stay purrfect!

Why is distance tracking still so bad?

Posted: 18 Jun 2018 12:45 PM PDT

I went out running with my phone today and decided to turn on POGO as I ran. I started a fresh 2 km egg as I ran and when I finished I had .74 km. I had ran well over 2 km but it doesn't matter if I run 3 or 5 miles the distance never adds up, not even close to half. It's been 2 years, why is the distance tracking still so bad?

[Discussion] Reddit. I challenge you to design a feature that ISNT automatically better for cheaters than legit players

Posted: 18 Jun 2018 06:33 PM PDT

so a lot of people are complaining about the trade thing screwing over legit players way more than cheaters and the same complaints happen any time we get a feature

problem is the very nature of how this game works is that ANYTHING they give to the players is automatically better for cheaters

like in an ideal world we wouldnt have to deal with them but we live in a significantly less than ideal world and in this world i just cant see what they could possibly give us that people arent gonna immediately say "this is gonna be abused by cheaters"

[Idea] Give a small toast popup when you catch a pokemon or spin a stop informing you of your current Item/Pokemon count.

Posted: 18 Jun 2018 06:42 PM PDT

So I'm thinking this: Your current max Pokemon storage is 900 and you're sitting on 880 right now (just an example, please don't get offended that I didn't perfectly predict your personal storage limits). You see a Pidgey and catch it. In the top corner of your screen you get a small message "Pokemon Storage 881 of 900" and after 2 seconds or so it goes away.

The same could happen when you spin a stop or a gym. I also think it would be a good idea if their was a setting where you could adjust the duration of these notifications or disable them altogether if you don't care for them (0s duration)

Friendship raid bonuses... a multiaccounter's wet dream?

Posted: 18 Jun 2018 07:02 AM PDT

"As your Friendship Level builds, you'll then unlock bonuses when you play together. For example, when you and a Great Friend participate in a Gym battle or Raid Battle together, you can earn an Attack bonus to give your Pokémon an edge! "

This doesn't even mention the extra raid balls they get automatically. Sounds like the people that raid with 3+ accounts have been doing it right all along.

please help me get this out there

Posted: 18 Jun 2018 05:17 AM PDT

hi! im a deticated pokemon go player and i live in flanders, belgium. there are a lot of people still playing here but not enough to be able to do simple things like raids. thats why i made a discord server to meet people for raids etc. link to the server

here's where you come in! even if your not from belgium an up vote would be verrry much appreciated so that us belgian people can be able to play the game to the fullest!

here is some more explanation on this topic:

so here in belgium i often see people also playing the game but every time i never see anyone doing raids because most of us know there won't be enough player and it'll just be a waste of a raid pass. so this discord server can bring people together so we can finally catch them all!

thank you!

[Discussion] The upcoming trading system has seriously blown my mind by the genius that is integrated in it.

Posted: 18 Jun 2018 01:18 PM PDT

I might be a league ahead of myself, and this is just speculations, but if I understand the potential that what Niantic did with trading, then it's truly genius.

Just to be clear, I'm going to talk about how Pokémon's IVs get re-randomized when traded.

We're not sure how this will work yet, but I hope The Silph Road will leap onto it as soon as the update is live, but in my mind it has the potential to be a truly brilliant feature.

I'll get it out of the way how randomizing a pokémon's IVs is a good way to hinder the black market that will surely emerge in Pokémon Go. Bravo Niantic.

Now onward to the much deeper and truly genius implications.

From what I've read, it seems like the traded pokémon's IVs won't be fully randomized. In the update they talk about how the potential range of possible new IVs will be affected by your friendship level with the other player, with a higher friendship level having a significantly smaller range TOWARDS THE UPPER END.

What I believe this might mean is that, if you trade with a newly added friend, the new IVs will be fully random from 0-15, but if you trade with a "best friend", the IVs are guaranteed to be randomized to great IVs, probably within a range similar to egg-hatched, raids and quests, from 10-15.

What all this could mean is that trading a pokémon with BAD IVs to a "best friend" will transform it into a pokémon with GOOD IVs.

So if you find a rare pokémon with garbage IVs, you can, instead of transferring, save it until you can meet up with a friend that you're "best friend" with, trade it, get the candy for it, AND your friend might get a rare pokémon with Great IVs!

The genius brilliance that is blowing my mind is how such a change would transform one of the game's most mundane and basic actions, transferring away unwanted pokémon, into a social experience and a reason to meet up with other players.

I would love to meet up with a couple of friends just to trade junk IV rares, and with each 100 stardust trade have the chance of obtaining a rare pokémon with egg-hatch equivalent IVs.

I did not see this coming, and I am truly impressed if this is how this feature will work.

If Squirtle has a community day

Posted: 18 Jun 2018 10:32 AM PDT

I wouldn't want a shiny Squirtle. I'd want one from the Squirtle squad. I feel like that would be a much better Pokemon than just a normal shiny. Idea only just recently popped into my head after the recent Charmander community day. I really hope they have some sort of idea of putting or introducing the Squirtle squad, just as a call back to all the old episodes. Plus I would love to see a Blastoise with shades 😎

[Idea] Add the ability to “watch” an already caught Pokémon so if it’s nearby it will show first on tracker.

Posted: 18 Jun 2018 08:38 AM PDT

[Idea Mock-Up] https://imgur.com/a/p18Lx1L

The idea is that you can watch one Pokémon (through Pokédex) and if it's nearby you can see it on the tracker first no matter on the distance. This is similar to how New, Uncaught Pokémon appear in the tracker now, except that it's one you've already caught. So even if it would be the 9th slot in nearby.. it's automatically boosted to the 1st slot (or second if there's a new one around) This would be limited to one Pokémon. Maybe you could get notified?? Or not, maybe that's too easy? But it would be nice to know when something you want, but already have is around...

Just an idea!

[discussion] its begun: local "im not a spoofers" are taking bids for legendary and shiney pokemon

Posted: 18 Jun 2018 06:21 PM PDT

so our local facebook and discord groups have a couple "i dont spoof i drive around a lot" players making posts and privately messaging people who missed legendaries trying to sell the legendaries they caught on there mum/dad/brother/wife/kid/dogs accounts

not gonna list names or prices cause i really hope nobody goes for this crap and it goes away real quick but its pretty disheartening

we have a chat going posting good quest rewards (aka lapras) and 3/4 of the posts in it are "ill sell you a lapras for $5"

its been like 12 hours...

Event trade meet up threads

Posted: 18 Jun 2018 08:03 PM PDT

With the news of trading being implemented this week I thought I'd be a good idea for people to make threads for the upcoming events (Safari zones, Go Fest) to ask if anyone traveling to said events have any rare Pokemon they are willing to trade.

[Discussion] Less Friends Means Fewer Chances to Hatch Alolan Pokemon?

Posted: 18 Jun 2018 10:06 AM PDT

If I'm reading the announcement correctly it seems like players who don't have lots of irl friends to add will get less gifts and therefore less alolan pokemon. This seems a bit unfair to people who play solo or who are rural and have no one around them who plays. How will they get gifts if that's the case? I was wondering if trainers on here would be interested in starting a thread with trainer codes once they're released so that we could all add at least a few people to send gifts back and forth to. Does this sounds like a good idea? Would anyone be game?

With the new Friendship feature has Niantic made raiding more fair for everyone?

Posted: 18 Jun 2018 08:40 PM PDT

I've been thinking about this for a while since the friendship feature got announced. With players being in a community maybe over run by Mystic, Valor or yes even Instinct, I strongly feel that this helps all the players who don't usually get gym control or the most damage. Now you don't have to worry about splitting groups to maximize your ball count you can just go in the raid with your Ultra or Best buddy and get extra tries just by raiding with the people who you normally raid with. What do you guys think? I'm on Team Instinct so coming from a guy who normally gets less than 10 tries on a Legendary I'm thrilled with this!

[Useless info] The contact Niantic hyperlinks are missing in the privacy agreement notice. Now we can’t ‘exercise our rights’.

The privacy agreement text popped up just now and I'm not sure why, but decided to read it in full. Noticed that the hyperlinks to contact them 'here' are missing. Tried clicking for good measure, but looks like they just forgot?
