Hearthstone - Welcome to the 300 Dust Club!

Welcome to the 300 Dust Club!

Posted: 13 Jun 2018 04:43 AM PDT

As we know today was golden pack day. While we appreciate the free stuffs from Blizz the goal of this club is to create a safe space...nay a refuge from the blessed folks on the front page and thier glorious multi legendary packs for those of us who got a classic four commons and a rare pack. Share you stories, feelings, shattered hopes and dreams. This is where you belong!

Now if you'll excuse me I have to go build an enrage-is-no-longer-a-key-word deck for that sweet golden angry chicken I now own!

*BUG* When using Unstable Evolution on a minion that has been targeted by Voodoo Doll it will die when Voodoo Doll is destroyed.

Posted: 13 Jun 2018 04:13 AM PDT

Had Primordial Drake on the field, opponent plays Voodoo doll and ends their turn, I play Unstable Evolution on the drake, it turns into a Ysera, I then attack with Acolyte of Pain killing Voodoo Doll, Ysera dies.

To me, that makes no sense. I'm sure I've evaded other cards effect by evolving, cards like Power Overwhelming and Corruption. So why does Voodoo Doll work.

If this turns out to be intended and I've missed an interview where it's said to be intended, I apologize.

I think Hearthstone has reached the perfect balance between between "boring" periods and events.

Posted: 13 Jun 2018 05:54 AM PDT

What happened during the last years of Hearthstone?

F I E R Y B O I

It all started with the Midsummer Fire Festival, which lasted between July 5th and July 19th of last year. The double gold event allowed even the most casual player to get one pack a day, since the average quest was notably bumped up from 50~ to 100~. Since the event lasted 14 days, managing your quests in a smart way allowed you to double the rewards of 16 quests, thus gaining an average of 50x16=800 gold, or 8 packs.

F R O S T I B O I

Right after that our boi Ahune invited us to chill at his Frost Festival between July 19th and August 8th, giving out 3 free KoFT packs (the expansion was not released yet) and Arena Tickets with ONE FREE WIN! Since entering the Arena costs 150 Gold, this event could get you up to 1150 gold worth of tickets+packs.

Knights of the Frozen Throne Release

While not as great as Ragnaros' Festival, Ahune sure prepared us for the release of Knights of the Frozen Throne, scheduled for August 10-11th depending on the region. For that event we got some singleplayer content that gave us 4+3 free KoFT packs and a random free Death Knight Hero card. And a free Prince Taldaram in the first 10 packs.

S P O O K I B O I

Then we got Hallow's End, which gave people 4 packs (2 KoFT, 2 WotOG), up to 4 arena tickets (valued at approximately 130-140 gold, since not everyone is good at arena). Not that big of an event, but double class Arena was hella fun.

Kobolds and Catacombs Release

December 7th, 2017. The day Corridor Creeper was releasedohno.mp4

Jokes aside, we got a free weapon, and that is pretty good, even if I'd personally value them less than a free DK.As a way to say sorry for a stupidly annoying meta Blizzard decided to nerf Corridor Creeper, Raza and Patches. Since pretty much everybody owned Patches, we can consider this an event where everybody got a free legendary for partaking of a torture experiment that was "the meta". Unfortunately a lot of good cards were released in Kobolds, so most people had to craft them just to have a chance at winning ranked games. Spiteful Summoner quickly extablished itself as a powerful meta-defining card, just like Cube, Lackey and Void-daddy.

Year of the Mammoth Bundle

30 packs. 20 Euros, 14.50 with Amazon Coins + 5 Euros cashback. Ez.

Year of the Raven

" To celebrate the start of the Year of the Raven, starting March 26, 2018 until April 9, 2018, all quests rewards a random card pack from Journey to Un'Goro, Knights of the Frozen Throne, Kobolds and Catacombs or from the new expansion, The Witchwood." From:Hearthstone Gamepedia

Fantastic way to make people play the game more. Getting those packs was actually so fun!

The Witchwood Release

And here we are. The Witchwood was recently released (12th of April) and as always, we got some free packs, a free Class legendary (I got JAWSTHATBITECLAWSTHATCATCH) and we officially said goodbye to the Year of the Mammoth. Unlike last year, I don't actually remember getting THAT much from this event, except the free dust from MoltenG and Coldlight Oracoli Oracoli gimme the Ravioli, but we got easier quest with better rewards.

Noblegarden

Eh, 150 free dust. Not a big event, but they gave us free stuff, so I'm not complaining.

Nerf Day

Many cards were nerfed, and along with them NSW and Spiteful (two Epics) and The Caverns Below (a Legendary) , u/poopity_doopity got 3200 dust, and the metagame got way healthier. Overall very well executed nerfs by Blizzard

Taverns of Time

Such a cool event! We got Tess unnerfed, a free golden pack and until July 3rd we're gonna get 60-100 gold+dust quests every single day! By managing your arena runs, you can get up to 3 free Tickets, to enter a draft featuring many new fun cards, like that 2 mana 2/2 "always start in your opening hand".The event has not ended yet, so I can't give you the approximate dust+gold value of the event rewards, but getting dust along with quests feels hella satisfying. Since the average dust value of a pack is about 100, getting a 100G quest means you get 2 packs worth of value, which is amazing!

From the start of the Year of the Raven (about 2 monts) I've managed to gain 21330 dust. Compared to my monthly dust income of 2016 it's almost double! I'm really happy Blizzard is giving out more and more free stuff for its players, and I hope we can continue this trend to allow new and old players to enjoy the game

EDIT: I actually forgot about all the free packs from Choose your champion and tournament votes.

It’s deck-code-bot’s birthday!

Posted: 13 Jun 2018 06:15 AM PDT

Today marks the first birthday of deck-code-bot! In celebration, I've collected statistics for the past year and collected them into some interesting charts and tables. Get ready!

deck-code-bot comment counts across all subreddits, year 1

For the chart above, I'm only counting actual decklist comments, not goofy ones like this one. As you can see, people are sharing deckstrings much more frequently right after expansion releases, though for some reason, K&C release didn't generate as much deck-sharing excitement despite how powerful the set was at release.

Overall, as of June 9 (when I stopped collecting data for this post), there have been 4974 deck-code-bot replies across these five subreddits:

Subreddit Count
hearthstone 2243
wildhearthstone 876
CompetitiveHS 1714
TheHearth 138
Gimmickstone 3

Let's take a quick look at the popularity of each class, along with the most expensive decks (dust-wise) for each class:

Class Total Decks Shared Most Expensive
Druid 496 22280
Hunter 535 20880
Priest 705 26900
Mage 506 21860
Paladin 644 17820
Shaman 387 18840
Rogue 615 35940
Warlock 615 24480
Warrior 383 19800

(Okay, okay, you got me. This Tirion party is technically the most expensive paladin deck shared, tied with this beauty. The one above is third place.)

Now for some news! Deck-code-bot was actually my very first python project, and I was a self-taught amateur programmer, so, well, the code is genuinely awful. Just a real mess. And maintaining it has been a bit of a chore every time we get an expansion or a round of nerfs. I'm going to be rewriting it and improving on it this year, branching out to non-English-speaking HS subreddits, implementing downvote-to-delete, and other changes.

I also want to give big thanks /u/Adys at HSReplay/HearthSim for offering to host deck-code-bot going forward and also providing a ton of guidance and support, as well as to /u/turikk for hosting the bot for the past year. Thanks to everyone who has used the bot and given it an upvote or a "Good bot", and the people who take time out of their day to send me a PM when they notice a bug! And of course, thank you /u/deck-code-bot, who just keeps chugging along. AAEBAaoIBJruAtoP/esCqKsCDbsDwg6fA96CA4CvAsrLAvUIjeYCgugCvPECmsIC48ICjc4CAA==

Weird Mountain Giant bug?

Posted: 13 Jun 2018 03:52 AM PDT

I was just playing a game as Even Warlock vs Secret Mage and unless I m overlooking something I think I found a bug.

I was going second, tapped on turns 1 and 2 so I had a Mountain Giant discounted to 3 on turn 3. I tried to coin out Hellfire but my Coin got counterspelled. That left me with 9 cards in my hand but for some reason my Mountain Giant still cost 3 and it was playable.

Here are screenshots after playing it and the discounted cost in hand.

Anyone notice this before?

[Guide] How to send a friend request to your opponent during a match.

Posted: 12 Jun 2018 11:03 AM PDT

I was inspired by this custom hearthstone card by u/trueaesthete over at r/customhearthstone and decided to find a way to actually send a friend request to your opponent during a match, I found a way after looking around in the game files for a while. This post is a step-by-step guide on how to add your opponent during the match to chat with them and have fun.

Edit: keep in mind this does not work on mobile :)

Step 1:

Start a game in any mode. Pretty easy so far ;)

Step 2:

Open the folder where hearthstone is installed and find "power.log" in the "logs" folder. Exactly where the Hearthstone folder is located depends, but my guess is that most of you can find it at this location: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Hearthstone\Logs" or something similar. It should look something like this https://imgur.com/n0t3uC0

Step 3:

Open the "power.log" file and press "ctrl+F" to bring up the search tool. Simply type in "#" to the search tool or your opponents name if # does not work. This should bring up your opponent's name AND battle tag number. Should look something like this: https://imgur.com/MDvWJH3

Step 4:

Now that you have the full battle tag you can simply copy it into the "add friend" tool in hearthstone and hope your opponent accepts the friend request. This should look something like this: https://imgur.com/RjYyrCi

Some things to notice:

you can find the battle tag for opponents a few games back as well as the opponent you are currently facing in the "power.log" file. This can be found by searching for "#" and skipping down the page until you see a new name. I am not sure how many games are saved, but I was able to find the battle tag for my 3 previous opponents.

Since this info might take some time and effort to find (but not to much when you have done it a few times) I would love if someone made a program that can find this info automatically and send a friend request with the click of a single button. I am sure it would not be very difficult to make, but I don't have much experience with stuff like that. If anyone can post a download link to anything like that I will edit this post and give credit :)

If anything was unclear please ask me in the comments :)

Edit1: Pointed out by u/Pattux :

Afaik Power.log does not have a limit on the number of games, it just ends when you close Hearthstone (then it becomes Power_old.log and replaces the previous Power_old.log)

Edit2: u/pm_me_gorgon_nudes found out that logging must me enabled:

I only have All, BattleNet, Gameplay, Isaac, and Sound logs in that folder. Edit: Figured it out. Logging must be enabled:https://github.com/jleclanche/fireplace/wiki/How-to-enable-logging

Edit3: u/tomatus89 has made the program i requested link to his comment here.

Edit4: u/jaspxar has confirmed that this work on mobile android devices as well. Take a look at his comment. Sadly there is no known way to do this on a IOS device, and it is probably not possible.

Script To Parse The Current Opponent's Battletag Automatically.

Posted: 13 Jun 2018 05:11 AM PDT

Following up this post:

https://www.reddit.com/r/hearthstone/comments/8ql4z5/guide_how_to_send_a_friend_request_to_your/

I made a program to get the opponent's name easily. It copies it to the clipboard, so it's ready paste it in the Add Friend text box.

Source: https://www.dropbox.com/s/cuzgly0ahuogo3u/get_opponent_battletag.ahk?dl=0

Exec: https://www.dropbox.com/s/gdqfulqshi6z0lb/get_opponent_battletag.exe?dl=0

32-bit version: https://www.dropbox.com/s/dxs3h12fgovyaa7/get_opponent_battletag32.exe?dl=0

Run: get_opponent_battletag.exe youruser#tag [log_path]

Examples:

get_opponent_battletag.exe benbrode#1234

get_opponent_battletag.exe benbrode#1234 "C:\My Games\Blizzard Games\Hearthstone\Logs\Power.log"

Default location is "C:\Program Files (x86)\Hearthstone\Logs\Power.log" (if none provided).

Your user/battle tag is needed because I couldn't find an easy way to distinguish between the opponent and the local player, because sometimes one is player 1 and sometimes player 2.

Pro tip: Don't run the exec writing the arguments every time. Create a batch (.bat) file with the command or just create a shortcut, then open the shortcut properties and edit the Target to include the arguments.

Haven't tested it in the case the opponent has the appear offline option, please let me know if it works or not.
