Hearthstone - PullsDay Thursday: Post Your Popped Packs

PullsDay Thursday: Post Your Popped Packs

Posted: 13 Jun 2018 05:11 PM PDT

Greetings Travellers,

This is a new weekly thread to showcase your crazy or unlucky pack openings, for F2P players and whales alike!

The goal of this thread is to draw discussion around pack openings into a centralized post every week, so that players have a dedicated place to share their pulls. Whether you got a sweet Tavern Brawl reward or Arena chest, we want to see it! You can also post in /r/HSPulls.

Pack Openings are still relegated to a megathread on the first day of a new expansion

Note: I am a bot. Questions or feedback regarding this thread? Message the moderators.

Taverns of Time quests feel very rewarding, and this is a good thing

Posted: 13 Jun 2018 10:58 PM PDT

This is something I'm sure the rest of this sub has already realized, but the new quests feel great, and this is something Blizzard should continue in the future, or at the very least bring back for upcoming events.

The quests give rewards that the game really feels like it needs at the moment, and it's great! Most players know at this point that the amount of cards to collect in this game is huge, and collecting all of them, or even just a solid portion of them, is such a long term goal that a lot of players can't achieve it - we craft a few competitive decks with the resources given to us, and if we want more, spending money is the best way to go.

However, the new quest rewards are absolutely a step in the right direction for the game's progression system. As of right now, it takes completing a quest, and a couple hours of play to get 1 pack a day (assuming the quest is 50-60 gold). Packs, more often than not, feel unrewarding, and what cards the player does get often become dusted in lieu of more competitive choices. Personally, I very rarely find myself keeping cards that I open from packs - and I'm sure a lot of you can sympathize with this. Cards that don't benefit us in any obvious way are hard to justify keeping when we can just dust them.

And what makes the current system feel worse is the long, long, dust grind. Competitive decks are often ~5,000 dust to create from scratch, and even for dedicated players, gathering that much can take weeks of play.

I'm not saying the current system is bad, but it feels unprofitable, and tedious at times. This is obviously to generate profit - we spend a couple bucks, we get our decks faster, Blizzard makes money. Everyone wins.

But the new quest rewards introduced with the Taverns of Time event break this trend. What would normally be a quest that offers 50 gold becomes one that offers 100 gold, and on top of that, 100 dust. This is FANTASTIC. Completing a quest not only lets us open a pack immediately, but it also gives us guaranteed dust value too, allowing us to generate the most valuable resource in the game just by playing it - not by destroying our collection to do so.

Not only does this encourage more short term play (you log in each day, complete your quest, profit, repeat), but this encourages more long term play for a much larger part of the playerbase. I've found myself keeping a lot cards from packs, even if I'm not going to use them, because I no longer feel like I HAVE to get rid of them. Over time, this allows players to more readily create a good card collection - meaning we have more options to use in game, building decks becomes less tedious, and overall, the player has even more reasons to play the game.

And the incentive to buy packs isn't gone either, spending money in game has just as much value as it would otherwise.

I sincerely hope Blizzard keeps this change around in some form, maybe not permanently, but it popping up from time to time would still be great. I'd be satisfied with the amount of dust being reduced as well, as any amount is still really beneficial for the game going forward.

tdlr; getting dust from quests makes progression much healthier for the game

I forgot to include it in the screenshot, but hovering over my Felsoul Inquisitor resulted in saying "This minion is frozen until Stasis Elemental leaves the battlefield" or something similar. Obvious bug, right?
