I've never played a MMORPG before but I started trying this game and it's been really fun. The learning curve isn't steep, there's always stuff and events to do, and I haven't encountered many problems as I steadily progressed and explored.

 

Then I hit level 30. Two new messages arrive in my inbox: there's a new chapter to my personal quest (yay, those always give good loot) and somebody wants me to help a Norn in a dungeon. I finish the personal quest first (gotta have my loot) and then trek out to Ascalon to check out this Catacomb.

 

The guy at the front says level 30 is required for the "Story Mode" and 35 for "Exploration". Perfect, I'm 30 so let's play through the story. I head inside and lionbro tells me we should wait for other people. Whatever, I'm just playing for the story, we don't need anyone else.

 

I step inside the first room and encounter an elite spirit. I'm not expecting much challenge from the very first enemy since this game hasn't been difficult outside of group events. He three-shots me. That's fine, there's a waypoint and repair spot right there and I'll be more prepared. I take the fight more seriously this time and manage to beat the spirit. Awesome, now to get all the sweet loot in these coff-oh wtf there's no loot, just more enemies!

 

The stupid spiders completely wreck me. Ok, maybe I'm not ready for this dungeon yet if I can't even take out basic mobs. I'll come back with better gear and skills.

 

Fast forward 20 levels. I'm pretty satisfied with my equipment and I have two (2!) specializations unlocked. Let's do this shit. Story mode, cutscene, you should wait for more players, blah blah. There's the elite spirit again... he is still dealing a concerning amount of damage but he can't stand up to my double-spin2win axes. Ok, this time I am not opening up any spider-surprise boxes. Unfortunately, the big front gate requires a key so I have to search around and the only interactable things here are... coffins.

 

The first few coffins summon single spirits that are pretty easy but the fourth has the goddamn spider mob again. FUck. They are spitting shit that do a thousand DPS and I'm trying to run and dip and duck and dodge and just fucking survive. Why the fuck is this so hard?! After about five minutes of critical health and being downed and rallying a dozen times, I finally kill the last fucking spider. Except none of them drop the key to the gate. Seriously? I am furious at this point and start to google guides for this Ascalonian Catacomb.

 

Ok, this guide is for multiplayer, this one mentions other party members, so does this one... where are the damn story mode guides?

Oh. Oooooh. oh.

 

I'm a fucking idiot.

 

TLDR I thought a dungeon's story mode was just single-player content like personal quests. I was wrong. Fuck spiders.

I don't know what it is. Maybe it's the fact that the game rewards exploration so well. It doesn't really matter where you go, you can guarantee events will just happen and give you something to do.

Everything in the game just seems interesting. I tried playing elder scrolls online because I love Skyrim, and I gave up after about 40 minutes and uninstalled it. It was just so dull.

I fear I'll become severely addicted to this game and end up pissing in bottles or something. Anyway, just wanted to share my experience.

And yes, I was the person who asked how to save the game...

Destruction of the Deadeye Fantasy, Part 4: What can be done?

TL;DR PvE Rifle Deadeye at the moment is in a bad spot. Underwhelming DPS, pitiful support abilities, and a wasteful rotation that lead to a elite specialization that has no real reason to be played. Possible changes to alleviate this include QoL changes to make the class easier to handle, and larger skill and profession changes to address the problems outlined previously. Also, Remove stealth from dodge.

My previous posts have pointed out some of the major problems that Deadeye had, specifically in how Malice functions and its reliance on stealth to utilize. Listed below are some ideas suggested by the community and the specific problem that each suggestion attempts to solve.

Profession Changes:

  • Provide an additional profession skill (F3) to expend Malice instead of relying on stealth.

    The Problem: Deadeye is unique in that it can be completely locked out of utilizing its specialization mechanic by its own doing. Providing an additional profession skill to expend Malice would allow Deadeye to utilize any build and not forced into ones that can provide sufficient stealth.

  • Removing stealth from dodge.

    The Problem: Going along with the first point, Deadeye is forced to use its dodge for offensive purposes to reliably stealth, leaving a Deadeye defenseless if it is actually caught out. Removing stealth from dodging would increase its own limited defense capabilities and decrease its footprint. Removing the stealth requirement from Malice use also frees more utilities to be used for damage or supporting roles.

These ideas would require a serious overhaul on how the class works, a re-rework. If that is deemed infeasible by Arenanet, some QoL changes would make the class easier to play:

  • Increase the incentives on maximizing Malice and using it.

    The Problem: With the rework, Deadeye lost a significant portion of its damage on all skills, with the idea of focusing power in to Malice expending skills, then provided no additional power to the new Malice attack (Death's Judgment). In addition, it is cumbersome to try and reach max Malice stacks, and doesn't feel as rewarding as it was previously, as Perfectionist was removed.

  • Providing a rifle skill that focuses on support Deadeye.

    The Problem: In its current state, Kneel 4 provides no significant utility or damage. Giving rifle a skill that assists in boon generation and/or sharing (such as Tempest's Warhorn Fire 4), would increase Deadeye's effectiveness as a support while removing some dead weight from the class.

  • Removing stealth from dodge.

    The Problem: As already stated earlier, this is overwhelmingly the worst aspect of the reworked Deadeye. Changing this and providing a viable alternative to using Malice would be the singular most positive change to the class.

In conclusion, the most important change that could be added would be to untie dodge from stealth and use a different mechanic to activate Malice. Deadeye tries to be a class that can provide high single target damage, or a niche support pick. It fails at both of these things, as it provides mediocre DPS at the expense of any support or utility options, or support that can be done better by several other classes coupled with abysmal DPS.

Anyone want a free $10 GW2 key for upgrading F2P accounts

Hey, I still have a few unused GW2 keys I bought back in 2015 to giveaway but never did. This was back when the game was still buy to play, specifically when it went on sale for $10; hope the keys still work. I can't recall exactly what they'll do, but it should lift any free-to-play limitations. May also be Heroic Edition keys, which come with some free items, can't remember. Doesn't include any expansion content though.

I had my reservations with Guild Wars 2 for a while. I played GW1 for years and when 2 was announced I was hyped but it didn't feel like Guild Wars to me. Fast forward several years up to last week when I got bit by the nostalgia bug and wanted to hop into GW1 again. Well my account has been locked up because a hacker and I'm waiting on anet to get a hold of me (lol). While I waited I noticed Guild Wars 2 was now free to play. So I downloaded...and well needless to say I'm penny pinching now just so I can buy the expansions. I don't even remember why I was so cautious of GW2 because to me it feels like a great upgrade from the first.

I'm having some real issues playing Ele and dying. I need perspective and help.

Title.

I'm dying a lot. I've been playing it as my main through everything. I'm doing world bosses, HoT events and story mode in both expansions and i'm just dead, dead, dead.

I have no idea just what i'm doing wrong and every google search ends in "git gud" and a link to builds that i've already attempted to adopt to remedy the situation.

I remember going through storymode and leveling to 80 and often managing big pulls, but only by the skin of my teeth. Often getting downed when running ascalon until i just dropped dungeons.

Actually, it's started to affect how i play with people in that i've mostly just dropped it. I get so much shit for being constantly downed in every group. Fractals, dungeons and especially WvW. This "no downed state" week has been a night mare. Same for HoT and PoF storymode... or anything in those expansions actually.

I get that my class is a glass-cannon but no amount of positioning or dodging keeps me alive and i'm honestly getting fed up with the game because of it. I rolled a guardian to get a different play experience and i'm shocked to see that not only do i deliver more DPS with <5 groups of enemies, i also make it through with nearly full health. That is absolutely bullshit. I get that elementalists are glass cannons, but there is no cannon and all glass.

Is there a balance issue? What do i do here? are elementalists just meant to be downed and left behind all the time? I've invested so much energy and spiteful rage in this character, but i also just can't reconcile spending more time on it if this is how cancerous it's gonna be from here-on out. I've been dealing with it, but removing downed state from WvW just made this character useless for a week.

Does anyone have any advice besides that i should stop whining and "gid gud". or at least confirm to me that this is a problem or intentional on the part of the developers? Been following these builds from Metabattle.

mouse acceleration built into camera?

It feels like there is some, but I'm not certain. If there is, is there a way to disable it? It becomes pretty annoying when turning my camera 180 degrees as I kite in PvP.

Help - Can't craft Ascended aquabreather

So I have the Ascended Zoija's Cloth Aquabreather (clearly stated for tailor) unlocked via fractal vendor and consumed the recipe.

However I still can't see it in my crafting panel (I dont have any filters on) and have no idea why. I have Tailor 500 and have crafted full set of Ascended armours.

Does anyone know how I can craft the cloth aquabreather?

Mouse cursor not disspearing? Bug? Any solution? thanks!

In the title.

Very often I get this bug (i think it is anyway) that makes my mouse cursor stay on screen all the time (im mainly talking about it not disspearing when im using RMB to rotate camera) it just stays on screen.

Very annoying, has this happened to anyone else? How did you solve it? Thanks!
