Force Staff

Allows you to manipulate others, for good or evil.

Cost Components Bonus
1000 Staff of Wizardry +10 Intelligence
300 Ring of Regen +1.5 Health Regeneration
950 Recipe -
2250 Force Staff +10 Intelligence, +2 Health Regeneration, Active: Force

Active ability: Force

Pushes any target unit 600 units in the direction it is facing.

  • Cast Range: 750

  • Push Distance: 600

  • Push Duration: 0.5s

  • Cooldown: 23s

  • Manacost: 100

  • Undispellable

  • Double clicking the item casts it on self.

  • Pushes the target at a speed of 1200.

  • The target is not disabled during the push, so it still can cast spells or items, attack and turn during the push.

  • It also means that it does not cancel channeling spells of the target.

    • However, it interrupts the user's channeling spells upon cast, since it is a single target spell. It is not the push itself canceling them.
  • Does not push units affected by Black Hole, Chronosphere, Duel, Flaming Lasso, or Kinetic Field.

  • Cannot break Pounce leash. When casting on a leashed hero, it does not get pushed beyond the leash's max range.

  • Can target any unit, except for wards and buildings. It can also push a Homing Missile.

  • Can force units over impassable terrain. Trees within 100 radius around the pushed target get destroyed during the push.

  • Can be cast on Roshan but without any effect, since Roshan is immune to forced movement.

  • Shares cooldown with Hurricane Pike.

Recent Changelog:

7.14

  • Cost

    • Now requires a Ring of Regen, instead of Ring of Health
    • Increased recipe cost from 400 to 950.
    • Total cost remains 2250.
  • Reduced health regen bonus from 5 to 2.

  • Increased Force mana cost from 25 to 100.

7.08

  • Increased Force cooldown from 20 to 23.

7.06f

There was nothing worse than winning a game against 5 man core lineup but then your carry decides to not end, because he had to stun 23 ancients while under the affect of rune of haste during night with only 10% hp remaining after the gametimer reaches 10 min but before it reaches 43 min wasdasdasfasdsadfasdasdaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.

Jeff Hill appreciation thread

Posted: 28 Jun 2018 09:48 AM PDT

These appreciation threads are usually just circlejerks, and I'm not a fan of them, but I thought I'd give credit where credit is due, because the devs at valve usually only see complaints on this sub.

For those of you that don't know, Jeff Hill is a developer at valve on the Dota 2 team. He has been one of the few voices at valve that has communicated to us why some things are the way they are (matchmaking issues, recalibration, etc...)

As someone who is nearing his bachelor's in computer science I find some of the topics he discusses very interesting, and the communication is appreciated.

Thanks Jeff!

Honorable mention to DanielJ as well. We see him here and there.

Where is the 75% off coming from in the bundle?

Posted: 28 Jun 2018 01:48 AM PDT

Edit 2: putting at the top of post for visibility, wyk just explained in a tweet https://twitter.com/wykrhm/status/1012368272564482048?s=21

I'm struggling to work out how valve calculated the bundle to be a 75% saving, even when using the price of 5 levels being $2.49 (will assume to be $2.50 for ease) which is the highest level cost possible, in order to give the best chance of reaching the 75% saving.

The most obvious way of working it out would be to assume each treasure is worth 2 levels (recycle value) meaning the bundle is 128 levels. The bundle costs ~$25 and the equivalent 128 levels would be $64, making a 61\% saving; so it can't be calculated using this method and valve must have a specific value of each treasure in mind.

Again using 5 levels costing $2.50, the cost of 100 levels is $50. This bundle is $25 so a 75% saving would mean that the price without saving would be $100. Subtracting the cost of 100 levels we get that the 14 treasures are valued at $50, or $3.57 each, for the saving to be justified. This seems like a relatively fair price, but it still needs to have some form of validation as a figure rather than being pulled out of nowhere for it to be claimed as 75% off.

I'm not accusing valve of doing anything dodgy, just wondering if I may have missed something about where this treasure cost comes from rather than it just being pulled out of nowhere in order to say its a 75% saving.

Edit: Just to clarify a few things that are repeatedly coming up:

  1. I took the higher battle level cost as that's what would result in the highest saving for the bundle, so I was giving the bundle the best chance of reaching the 75% value
  2. The recycling thing was just an example of the only absolute value the treasures can be valued at, it wasn't the basis of my question and was just a link to show why the individual treasure values needed to be calculated, if you find it easier just ignore that paragraph.
  3. I'm not trying to make valve look bad or anything, I tagged the post as discussion not complaint and even said in the post that I was asking how they got their value because I felt I was missing something, not because I thought valve are doing anything dodgy.

Valve Weekend Bundle extension until next weekend maybe?

Posted: 28 Jun 2018 02:50 AM PDT

I'm a student, and I don't have my expenses sorted out until next week, if this offer ends by this weekend, I won't be able to make it.

Anyone else in a similar situation here?

Edit: It might just help grow that prizepool curve grow few inches longer...
