A quick note to those saying RedShell is an invasion of privacy, and is violating the GDPR

Posted: 27 Jun 2018 05:37 AM PDT

First off, you CAN actually opt out of the data collection, contrary to popular belief...

RedShell have their own FAQ for gamers at https://redshell.io/gamers and instructions on opting out at https://redshell.io/optout

Note that the data collection is purely for the purpose of linking the tracking of marketing with people playing games. While the GDPR may require disclosure of this (and the existing privacy policy may be too vague - I'm not enough of an expert to determine that, there's a bit too little case law yet), it does not require consent if this is serving a legitimate interest of the data controller (presumably 2K/Take-Two) and its impact on the rights and freedoms of individuals is sufficiently small.

However, as the FAQ makes clear, all of the data is anonymised/pseudonymised, which may remove the need for disclosure depending on the quality of the pseudonymisation. This is a part of the new law that I'm particularly unsure around. The disclosure can be passive, however - if there's a way for a reasonable person to find out about it, such as a clickable link to privacy information, that can be enough.

Basically, yes, this is a thing, and people are completely free to be upset about it. On the other hand, it's not a blatant violation of the law.

Describe your city in civ terms.

Describe your city irl and surrounding areas in civ terms.

For this assume 1 million people is 5 pop. For reference would put NYC at about 42, London at 40, and Tokyo around 45.

Tucson, AZ

Pop 5

Geography:

Hills to the north. Two mountain tiles past hills north, single mountain to the east, and single mountain to the west. Two desert hills to south west. All other tiles are desert.

Districts:

Directly south is an entertainment complex with zoo, sport arena and mall. West is campus with university bordering mountain! Neighborhood district to north and east. Aerodrome district to the south east.

Builder Improvements:

Two copper mines on desert hills to south west.

River dried up 20 turns ago...lol

"If I fits, I sits" - This Settler (probably)

Posted: 27 Jun 2018 08:06 PM PDT

When do you usually stop settling new cities?

Posted: 27 Jun 2018 12:57 PM PDT

I feel like there is a certain point in every match after which settling new cities isn't really worth the trouble anymore, since by the time they'd pay off, the game is all but over, anyway - an exception being cities for strategic purposes (to get an important resource or to establish a base on another continent).

For me, that point always seems to be around 1500, give or take 100 years. Even if for some reason I find a perfect and unclaimed spot late in the game, I have a hard time getting that city to really take off and benefit me in any meaningful way. One more reason why the Statue of Liberty in Civ VI just feels like an absolute waste to me.

Is there a mod that you can set a certain number of turns, and then have it save and force quit? I all too often find a 1 hour session extend into 2 or 3 because I keep saying one more turn and I'll be done...

Civ IV 60% off on iOs (about 30 usd)

What is the best starting Civ in Civ VI? (not necessarily the best Civ)

Posted: 27 Jun 2018 06:56 AM PDT

I've played halfway through two games, and I'm still feeling pretty lost with all the new mechanics in Civ VI - I have around 2400 hours in V though so I am fairly familiar with some parts of the game.

I'm wondering what the best Civ is to start off with? As I mentioned in my title, this isn't necessarily the strongest overall Civ.

For example I've heard that the Aztecs are extremely strong, but I'm not great at starting fast and pushing military early yet, so I don't know if I'll actually be able to make use of their strengths.

So I'm looking for a Civ that has strong bonuses that are also fairly easy to use. Can anyone recommend one for me?

Are Monty mains rare?

Posted: 27 Jun 2018 07:06 PM PDT

I've played Civ IV on and off pretty much since it came out, and I suck at it. Never been able to do anything above Chieftain. But it is a fun distraction when none of my other games don't interest me.

I've ALWAYS played Monty. I've always been fascinated by Aztec culture and history and for some reason, even though I tend to end up attempting cultural/space race wins because I don't seem to understand how the hell the combat works in this game, I feel like I can't leave the guy hanging.

It amuses me that every time I've gone looking for information on Civ IV, pretty much every forum I've looked at in the past, including this one, has people talking about how the AI Monty is a fucking lunatic.

If he's that dangerous as an AI, though, my question is, why don't more people actually play as him? My own nemesis as Monty tends to be Genghis or Tokugawa, but I find them mostly just annoying - the way people talk about AI Monty, he will jump out of your computer screen and cut your heart out himself. I assume - because it seems like not many people play as him - that he's one of the weaker leaders in the hands of a player, when compared to other leaders played by other skilled players. So what exactly is it that makes him such a menace when he's AI?

Modding help

Posted: 27 Jun 2018 06:32 PM PDT

I downloaded the Gold Resource mod but it doesn't work. So I decided to create my own. I inserted all the codes and stuff but I can't figure out how to create the icon of the gold resource to appear in the maps. Does any one know how I can do this? I haven't been able to find an answer anywhere thus far. Thanks.

Barbs in R&F?

Posted: 27 Jun 2018 06:22 PM PDT

So I have been playing R&F on deity level for a few months. I play on continents as I was getting tired of the Earth map. However, I have not had a single barbarian in any game. Even checked the advanced game setting to make sure I did not turn the barbarians off. Any thoughts? I miss slaying them :(

Is it just me, or does the jump from Warlord to Prince significantly increase the rate of barbarians?
