Buy your tickets to DreamHack Austin and help contribute to the next r/SF Player Sponsorship

Get Hype for Evo!!

We all know that we hit our goals for sponsoring Neon and M.Lizard to attend Combo Breaker, which is incredible. But now is the time to start planning for the Evo player sponsorships. Here's how you can help RIGHT NOW!

1) Start Nominating Players

Much like last time, we're taking any and all nominations into consideration. All you have to do is drop their name in the comments and they will be added to the list. Number of times nominated does not translated to number of votes later on, you only need to nominate a player one time. Nominations -> Voting -> Fundraising

2) Buy Your Tickets to DreamHack Austin through Matcherino

Although we've hit our goals, the current sponsorship drive will run up until right before Combo Breaker. DreamHack Austin is kind enough to donate HALF the ticket price to the current sponsorship drive for every ticket sold through Matcherino. So if you're planning on going to DreamHack Austin on June 1st and also want to help send players to Evo, the decision here is easy. You can also help raise a little bit of money by following and tweeting about the event on twitter if you click the links seen here. This is just free money.

3) Help Spread the Word

Even if you can't help out financially it's a huge help to spread worth through Twitter, discords, or your local's facebook group. Get the word out and nominate your favorite player. Or hell, cop some merch in the teespring to stay on brand. Regardless, I've been hyper proud of this community for what we've accomplished so far and I'm definitely looking forward to whatever comes next.

This might explain some of the balance changes

If your Rashid is Leveled up too High, Grunt Extra Battle Challenge is pretty stupid with Guile.

Let's talk about - meterless pressure moves

Posted: 11 May 2018 08:11 AM PDT

I want to bring attention to a very small number of specific moves that I feel are unfair in the current state of the game.

The moves that I consider to be in this category:
-Position your character directly in front of the opponent
-Give you frame advantage when blocked
-Are mostly unreactable
-Do not require meter

Examples, off the top of my head:
-M.Bison Psycho Axe
-FANG coward crouch kicks
-Guile well spaced Knee Bazooka
-Cammy well spaced dive kick
-Dhalsim IA Gale and well spaced divekick
(I can't think of any more, but a few others might exist)

Examples that were in previous versions, but have been since nerfed:
-Well spaced R.Mika c.hp
-Chun IA kicks
-Balrog charged TAP

Anyway, as a hard rule in this game, I believe that no such move should be both meterless and have frame advantage on block. SFV is a game that rewards aggression - pressure is everything. Being able to re-initiate pressure continuously - at no cost of meter - should not be allowed.

I just realized why Gill was only a skin for Urien in SFV

Posted: 11 May 2018 09:21 AM PDT

They were saving him for MvCI. Gill's moves just fit a MvC game more than SF, he's extremely overpowered and with him being leaked DLC for MvCI it makes sense why they'd drop him in SF. It sucks but oh well, if MvCI gets a season 2 at least we'll get to play as Gill!

Random post but whatever lol.

Question about the Astaroth crossover event

Posted: 11 May 2018 08:42 AM PDT

So, I just played the first weekly challenge, which I believe according to this, it's supposed to be the feet. I got something called "Wind" gem after the first try and the icon looked like plain empty blue gem without the feet inside. Is this a dud? Or does that mean I got the feet? It was colored blue, and in that announcement by capcom, the feet reward seems to be inside a blue gem.

If I got the correct gem, I just wasted like 10,000FM because I thought it was supposed to show the exact icon, with the feet inside lol...

Where and how should I start learning some frame data?

Posted: 11 May 2018 08:36 AM PDT

I'm a SfV beginner and, of course, I'm still learning my character (Akuma). I watched some YT videos to have a general idea of what frame data is and I feel like I should start memorising some (of other characters) to know which moves (apart from obvious CC moves like DPs and similar) I should punish and with what. I have troubles understanding "when it's my turn" and I notice that I'm playing very passively, much beyond the "stay safe and punish". Are there particular characters I should prioritize considering I play in the bronze leagues (like the most played characters etc.)

Have pre-jump cancels been removed from the game?

Posted: 10 May 2018 10:40 PM PDT

I'm attempting to resume my training with this OS. I have my meaty throw setup and I've been in the training room for the past twenty minutes without a single successful attempt.

This is from the latest patch notes:

Changed so that a throw break cannot be performed after the move has been input, with the exception of normal and unique moves. This is to weaken the defensive technique of using certain special moves (primarily movement special moves) together with the throw break.

Note: Previously, throw escapes could not be performed only for moves that gave the character some kind of invincibility or armor.

I'm not really understanding the wording - does this mean pre-jump specials are gone? I'm vaguely aware they were targeting Tokido and his ex demon flip on wakeup thing.

Keyboard customization

Finally done with final, I was pretty excited to pick up SFV. What the hell is up with this game's keyboard setting? I can't seem to map certain buttons like ; ". What's an alternative to using the ingame mapping?

Zeku vs ibuki who is better ?

Posted: 11 May 2018 06:06 AM PDT

As a zeku player this is a match up I don't look forward to, as ibuki can shut down old zekus zoning with her shurikins. Usually when a character can shut down the zoning you have the advantage of switching to Y.zeku to rush them down. But with ibuki she's faster and seems to have better target combos that lead in to her specials. But I think she may be better than zeku because of zekus design, an example of this would be the fact that they share a very similar anti air. The problem is only old zeku can do this, but ibuki can render it useless by keeping out of zekus range with shurikins. It might just be me but I tend to win this match up more if I young zeku her. But doing so I give up access to a DP and my only invincible move to do so. Where as ibuki has to sacrifice nothing to maintain her pressure on both of zekus forms. I think this makes her better than zeku, as well as her multiple combos and set ups, she has a lot of ways to get around both forms. Where for me I've started to notice if a player is strong against old zeku, I can switch to young and mess up their game. This just doesn't really seem to be the case with ibuki, but what do people think is ibuki better than zeku overall?

An example of the zeku form swap paying off is the guile match up, I can't DP anymore but hozanto gets me under booms and up close. So the trade is worth it and ups the chances to win, but when I switch for ibuki I'm only able to match her speed better and not really gaining much advantage on her.
