PullsDay Thursday: Post Your Popped Packs

Posted: 09 May 2018 05:12 PM PDT

Greetings Travellers,

This is a new weekly thread to showcase your crazy or unlucky pack openings, for F2P players and whales alike!

The goal of this thread is to draw discussion around pack openings into a centralized post every week, so that players have a dedicated place to share their pulls. Whether you got a sweet Tavern Brawl reward or Arena chest, we want to see it! You can also post in /r/HSPulls.

Pack Openings are still relegated to a megathread on the first day of a new expansion

Note: I am a bot. Questions or feedback regarding this thread? Message the moderators.

Nice little raptors?

Whenever it feels like the game is being too unfair to you, remind yourself that this happened once.

Okay I'm ready to disenchant Hagatha

My response to Yes-Paladin...Russian Roulette

Posted: 10 May 2018 07:46 AM PDT

Introduction
So we've all heard of the crazy deck rocking the Wild metagame, "Yes" Paladin. Well, I felt it was a bit too overpowered, so I made a slight modification that really balances the deck out. I know it might be foolish to rock the boat with such a time-honored deck, but sometimes we just need to take bold risks.
Play-Style
This deck, unlike traditional ones, has both a win-condition as well as a lose-condition. This is the key to making this deck fair and balanced in a world where "Yes" Paladin reigns supreme. It is absolutely vital that you play whichever one you draw first. Otherwise, it makes the deck just as imbalanced as "Yes" Paladin.
Decklist
The decklist I've created has been fine-tuned for the fairest possible gameplay. You are free to change the lower cost cards to other suitable choices, but the final two are essential to this deck's core.
Russian Roulette
Mulligan
Since this deck is combo-reliant, you want to mulligan away your 1-drops, looking for Skulking Geist. However, if you draw Liam, you may not mulligan him away. This ensures a fair and balanced experience.
FAQ

  • What if I draw Liam and Skulking Geist before turn 5? If you are lucky enough to draw both, then look at your opponent's name. Play Liam if it has an odd number of characters, and Geist if it has even.

  • What is the point of this deck? This deck seeks to tame the oppressive power of "Yes" Paladin.

  • Who is the best Overwatch hero? Moira bitchesssss

  • But...but...why? Because JUSTICE DEMANDS RETRIBUTION

Now go out there and spin the wheel!

Bring back Wild arena pls

Posted: 10 May 2018 07:33 AM PDT

I miss wild arena. It used to be about value and not drafting synergy cards. Right now arena seems like a worse version of standard ranked.

I want to play all of those wild cards that will never see play again, as they are not good enough for highly optimized wild decks. It just doesnt feel right to use less than half of the actual card pool. Arena used to be random and it should go back to being random. To me the most fun arena games where those that had some intrractions between two cards that you would never see in ranked.

I dont know how other people feel about it, but this is how I feel.

Witchwood, new Build-a-Beast combinations that are game-changing.

Posted: 10 May 2018 12:25 AM PDT

About a month has passed since The Witchwood was released. We have had our fun with the new cards and tried out new decks with these cards. One subject that really comes to mind is the new beast minions that are now added to the Deathstalker Rexxar Build-a-Beast pool. 6 7 new beasts were added.

The new beasts are as follows:

Hunter:
-Hunting Mastiff- 2/1 2 mana Echo & Rush
-Vilebrood Skitterer- 1/3 5 mana Rush & Poisonous

Neutral-
Swamp Leech- 2/1 Lifesteal
Vicious scalehide- 1/3 Lifesteal & Rush
Lifedrinker- Battlecry- Deal 3 damage to the enemy hero. Restore 3 health to your hero.
Nightprowler- Battlecry- If this is the only minion on the battlefield, gain +3/+3.
Scaleworm- Battlecry- If you are holding a Dragon gain +1 Attack and Rush.
EDIT3:Nightmare Amalgam- Omni-tribe card

These new additions provide interesting and sometimes game-changing effects that can get players out of a pinch. The top 5 4 Standard format combinations I believe can really change the game in your favor are:

  1. Lifedrinker +(6 mana 4/6)Vicious Scalehide/(5 mana 5/4)Swamp Leech/(9 mana 7/7)Bloodworm: Low on health? This combination restores 6 total health to your hero. Why? The first effect on its battlecry inflicts 3 damage which then interacts with the lifesteal mechanic restoring 3 health, then you get 3 additional health because of the second effect. If you are lucky enough to have selected Vicious Scale hide you can also restore an additional 4 health (6 mana 4/6 body) if there is a minion on your opponent's side of the field.

  2. Vilebrood Skitterer + Cave Hydra 8 mana 3/7: Abusing the combination of Rush, Poisonous and the cleave mechanic when it strikes a minion, this expensive minion provides a very nice clear of up to 3 minions.

  3. Bittertide Hydra + Vicious Scalehide 7 mana 9/11: This extremely bulky minion can easily one hit KO all but 16 standard format minions and heals your hero for 12 total health. The Bittertide Hydra's drawback inflicts 3 damage to your hero but it is restored because of its interaction with leech as it was learned by Day9.

  4. Vicious Scalehide + Cave Hydra 5 mana 3/7: The cleave provided can potentially pick off the smaller minions around a taunt the combined mechanics of Rush, Lifesteal and the cleave can yield a hero health restoration of 9.

Vicious Scalehide + Emperor Cobra 5 mana 2/6: This is a 2x stronger version of Vilebrood Skitterer that also includes lifesteal. Most of the time by turn 5 Vilebrood Skitterer only lives to strike once then perishes this stronger version could potentially live to swing once more.
Hunting Mastiff + Snowflipper Penguin 2 mana 3/2: Giving this doggy +1/+1 can be very handy when going for a board clear because you can potentially drop 5 of these providing 15 total damage to minions on turn 10 or later.

EDIT: TIL- the Build-a-Beast split selection pools.
EDIT2: Discovered a new combination.
EDIT3: Searching under beasts overlooked Nightmare Amalgam.

I feel bad for the Hearthstone team

Posted: 09 May 2018 03:07 PM PDT

They made this new brawl, with a new theme, made some custom cards for it, added a cool animation to the main screen, gave us some free cards (I know its 150 dust but its a cool thing to do regardless)

And then eeeeeeveryone is saying is a hot piece of garbage.

Look, I get it, its not a very good brawl but still I guess for the people at Hearthstone who thought of it must be a really FeelsBadMan moment for them.

So I appreciate the efforts Blizzard. Even if this brawl sucked I really like when you people do this small events even if the reward is just 150 dust and a pack.

When you equip Tess’ weapon with wind fury she still says she can’t attack twice. Literally unplayable.

Lesson To Be Learned From This Meta: Too Much Healing Offsets the Balance

Posted: 09 May 2018 01:44 PM PDT

In the past, healing was an important part of the game for certain classes (Priest, Paladin) and almost non-existent in others, in particular, Warlock. This is just due to how the classes were designed. In fact, Blizzard used to state that, if given the tools to heal itself, Warlock would potentially become way too powerful of a class.

For the longest time, the only real healing available to Warlocks was through fairly mediocre neutral cards like Earthen Ring Farseer, and Antique Healbot. We then of course had Reno Jackson.

All of which contributed to at certain times putting Warlocks into Tier 1 throughout the course of Hearthstone's existence. What does this mean? When given the tools to heal itself, Warlock's always dominate the meta.

Now, by giving Warlocks the tools to infinitely heal himself (DK, dark pact, etc.) they have made Warlocks not only the best Tier 1 decks in the game, but also have made the power level of Warlock decks higher than any other class we've ever seen.

The only thing I'm sayin here is Blizzard needs to watch out how much healing they give out to classes like Warlock in the future, or else the meta will become unbalanced yet again.

Anybode else running into Paladin bots as of late?

Posted: 10 May 2018 05:33 AM PDT

I am playing above rank 5 and there are some indicators which make me think I may be running into bots time and time again:

  • Smooth movement between actions, which are separated only by animation time each turn. So called "snap plays".

  • No moving mouse over cards or portraits.

  • Actions take place mostly after short delay, and as mentioned above: there is no delay between actions themselves however (other than animation time).

  • Delay seems to be the same amount of time each time.

  • Usually, I hear "Greetings" and no further emotes for the rest of the game (or no emotes at all).

  • Doing weird stuff. Propably clearest indicator.

2 examples of weird actions I found:

Attacking bizzare targets. Totem Golem with toyhammer (1/4 weapon from muster for battle), because it could be killed next turn by recruits, despite possiblity of rolling healing totem (and the fact Paladin is taking extra 3 damage to the face).

Casting Divine Favor for 1 card instead of using Baku upgraded hero power.

Best legendary to craft?

I finally have 1600 dust. What is is the best legendary to craft right now? Is Baku a good choice?

If the goal is to solve polarization, I'd rather see Crystal Core become Play 3 Minions with the same name to get a 3 mana Crystal Core that makes your minions 3/3s.

Posted: 10 May 2018 07:29 AM PDT

  • Less draw RNG.

  • Quest comes online more quickly/reliably, so aggro isn't as punishing.

  • Pay-off is less, so it isn't as dominant against Control.

  • You don't need to go all-in on bounce/copy effects to complete the quest, meaning you can think about running the quest in different shells.

  • Still a fun build-around that can exist in the meta which should be the goal - Quest Rogue is inherently a fun deck that does something different from most decks.
