Freddy and his Aura-reading - A lethal relationship

Posted: 08 May 2018 09:28 AM PDT

Despise the title, this isn't a meme-post. Rather more it's some kind of discussion as I felt there are a lot of people keep demanding buffs for the poor sweater-boii without actually thinking about potential consequences.

I personally think that Freddy won't able to become buffed in a "healthy" manner until his aura-reading's either adjusted, overhauled or replaced/removed. Why? For the very simple reason that his aura-reading is literally a huge boulder on the road to actually make Freddy an enjoyable but also balanced Killer in the game.

By saying "healthy" I'm reffering to the fact that facing Freddy currently sums up into a running simulator. Ofcourse, some Freddy's out there actually enjoy to frickle your mind by leaving you alone first and then cutting your way and throat. While this might be a more enjoyable playstyle, it's not as common as the classic Freddies that just drag you into the dreamworld and chase you until the game's already done or the Survivor making an impactful mistake.

Nontheless, back to the aura-reading. What is aura-reading actually? Simply said, it's an extreme controll-tool. Able to not just help you out in terms of decision-making, but also catching your prey off-guard, not being able to actually lose them, while also providing valueable information that doesn't just cut time but also lacks counterplay for the opposition. This in addition with his strong debuff the Survivors suffer under whilst being asleep, enables Freddy-players to have an easier time in terms of time-efficiency in comparasion to other Killers (Trapper, Wraith, Hag, whatsoever).

But the very point is, when we actually have a Killer with an global aura-reading capabillity, do people really think it'd be healthy for the game to buff Freddy into a competent chaser aswell?

WHEN Freddy would receive any kind of buff in terms of chase-efficiency, would he actually become a healthy but not just a very toxic character? Considering his current capabillities, I simply can't imagine him getting into an actuall healthy spot (healthy, not op, not broken, not underpowered, just healthy. Like Myers for example).

As I keep reading that people demand buffs for Freddy, while I have the "absurd" view that he'd become almost as toxic as Leatherface, I just can't imagine that this is actually a good idea aslong as his aura-reading remains. From a Survivors view, being not able to escape is one thing, but then you should atleast be able to stall out for a decent amount of time. That's how it works, safety in trade-off for time. Risky-plays cut time, but ain't safe obviously. When Freddy would receive a buff, whilst his kit remaining the very same, I personally just think this wouldn't work out balance-wise.

Tell me what you guys think. I've already seen a lot of biased Freddy-players that were just like "wtf are you talking about". But I just think those people are much too focused on the "here and now" instead of what COULD happen when their desires get fulfilled.

This is the whole reason I've made this post overall, to receive non-biased, neutral opinions and points to discuss (as 90% of the people that were discussing with me about this topic were Freddy-mains duh).

Edit : To make this clear, I AM NOT talking about REMOVING HIS AURA-READING, but rather more that he would not be in a healthy spot when he'd receive a in-chase oriented buff while his aura-reading doesn't receive any adjustements.

Every Killer perk ranked from worst to best

Posted: 08 May 2018 01:46 AM PDT

#45: Surveillance

If it had no max duration, this would be OK for a 3-gen strat.

As is, it's only useful for when survivors immediately go onto a gen after you break it.

At best, it's a mild convenience.

#44: Insidious

Purely a meme perk.

Hard countered by survivors not being idiots.

You might be able to cheese with Insidious NoED Nurse behind the gates, but that's just a meme.

#43: Beast of Prey

Mildly useful as a tool during mind games, and it helps against Dead Hard if they're using the stain to gauge when to pop it.

Countered by low/see-through terrain, listening to footsteps, and looking behind you, so it's still not too good.

Would be alright if it was a simple activation, though.

#42: Save the Best for Last

Great when cocky survivors want to take aggro, since you can smack them for the free chaser points without getting punished. Forces that survivor to heal up for 12-24 seconds instead of doing gens.

If they don't do that, it's pretty bad.

#41: Bitter Murmur

Lets you know which gate they're heading to.

Once in a blue moon, this perk is very useful; if you've just downed the second to last survivor and number 4 pops the last gen, this will give away their position and trajectory, letting you head over to them.

#40: Predator

Counters Lightweight and makes it so survivors can't really sprint without giving away a trail.

In an actual chase, it clutters the scratches a lot, so it doesn't help much more than it hurts.

#39: Play With Your Food

This thing gets nerfed every time it's viable, so of course it'd be a low tier perk.

That said, movement speed is the most powerful stat in the game, and the broken chase detection means it'll probably stack at least to tier 1 a good bit, so I can't put it at the very bottom.

Has its place in Tombstone builds.

#38: Monstrous Shrine

Useless if you can't get a basement hook, and unnoticeable even then.

10 seconds can throw the survivors off on occasion, but it's still not good.

#37: Unrelenting

Lessens the impact of Dead Hard, Sprint Burst, Vaccums, and honest mistakes.

Not a god-awful perk, but it just doesn't do enough to justify a perk slot.

#36: Territorial Imperative

If some poor soul decides to loot the basement, this perk is amazing. The issue is that survivors will often just not do that in favor of rushing down those gens.

Decent with a Bubba's Basement build, but not exactly god tier.

#35: Hex: The Third Seal

Against solo survivors, this is actually pretty good if the totem doesn't get found.

The problem is that you rarely run into squads with no SWF, and the totem is always found.

#34: Hangman's Trick

A godsend against sabo squads, dogshit against anything else.

If it worked on traps it might be good for Trapper, but it doesn't so it isn't.

#33: Spies from the Shadows

Crow perks are irrelevant.

#32: Hex: Huntress' Lullaby

The totem will always get found before you can get stacks on it.

Not the worst perk on Freddy, since it adds regression to those intentional failed skill checks, but still pretty bad.

If you can get the stacks and hide the totem, this perk has the potential to be better than Ruin. The need to stack it kills the perk.

#31: Unnerving Presence

Making skillchecks harder for those near you is a mild inconvenience, and competent survivors still won't miss them.

Even if your aim is to deal with Decisive, you'd be better off with Enduring.

#30: Thanatophobia

The design of the perk is alright.

If the numbers were a bit better, or if it counted dead survivors, it'd be OK. That said, it's pretty weak numbers wise so here it is.

#29: Sloppy Butcher

On Wraith or in combination with Bloodhound, this is a pretty OK perk. That said, it doesn't help you track them initially and it doesn't make the chase go faster, so it's low tier.

#28: Knock Out

I wish this were higher.

It's what Third Seal wishes it could be, and I love it half to death... but it's hard countered by SWF.

Because of that, it's not good.

#27: Bloodhound

A pretty nice perk. You don't need to run Sloppy Butcher alongside it, it synnergizes nicely with killers who can apply Hemorrhage like Huntress, and makes it easy to track people once you've hit them once.

The problem is that it suffers from the same issues as Sloppy Butcher; it doesn't help you find them initially, and it doesn't speed up the chase.

#26: Fire Up

Suffers from the same problems as Thanatophobia; a solid perk design with numbers that are far too low.

#25: Hex: Devour Hope

The same problems as Lullaby, but with a game-winning payoff if you succeed.

Run this whenever you have a Game offering for a good time.

#24: Overcharge

You might catch them off-guard once, but they won't miss the skill check after that.

It requires a time investment.

#23: Shadowborn

FOV is nice, especially on Nurse, but it's hardly the best perk out there.

It'd be a bit higher if it had retained the brightness increase, but that didn't happen.

#22: Whispers

Prevents you from wasting time searching an empty area, and lets Trapper/Hag know when they can place traps unobserved.

Solid in concept, and incredible when there's only one remaining survivor, but until then it's not the most helpful.

#21: Blood Warden

Unreliable, but one of the best Highlight perks in the game, including survivor perks.

Trapping three survivors in an exit gate and revving Bubba's chainsaw... delicious.

#20: Hex: Thrill of the Hunt

Lets you keep track of your NoED and defend regular hexes. Decent, but only in the right build.

#19: Distressing

Great on Doctor, kinda pointless otherwise.

#18: Stridor

Hearing things is always great. If you've got good ears, run this perk.

#17: Overwhelming Presence

Out of all the perks that counter flashlights, this one is the worst at it.

Additionally, they'll usually see the perk debuff before they hear the heartbeat, giving your position away earlier.

#16: Dying Light

With a green mori, godly. Otherwise, it's risky but powerful.

If you find the obsession early, this could win you the game (especially if they aren't running DS, or they get farmed).

#15: Deerstalker

Enables you to slug without the risk of losing your prey.

Helpful in preventing hatch games.

#14: Lightborn

Screws up flashlight timings. It's great, but only if they bring in that specific item.

#13: Franklin's Demise

Screws over flashlight users, but it's great against others (especially instaheals).

If somebody brings in a key and drops it, they will never find that shit again.

#12: Iron Grasp

Extra carry distance is always gonna be solid.

#11: Agitation

Gives the extra distance of IG, but with other benefits.

Hooking people takes a while, and AGI cuts down on the transport time. It also makes you faster than survivors, letting you juke out bodyblockers.

#10: Monitor and Abuse

On killers with low terror radii, lets them sneak up easily.

It also combos well with Nurses calling on other killers, letting you see them heal even if they try to not do it in your terror radius.

#9: Tinkerer

The cornerstone of the instasaw and instant hatchet builds. It's godly in these two scenarios, mediocre in a couple others (Myers fast charge, Wraith fast uncloak), and garbage otherwise.

#8: Hex: No One Escapes Death

If they cleanse the totems, they give you a massive amount of time to work with before the gens are completed.

If they don't, you get to one-shot people in the endgame. When survivors run perks that gear towards endgame, they risk not getting to the end game. When killers do so, they're giving themselves a safety net.

This perk is the only thing making low tier killers even remotely usable.

#7: Make Your Choice

For killers like Hag or Nurse who can quickly get back to the hook, this is incredible.

For the rest, it's still solid; an instadown on a non-hex perk is good.

#6: Brutal Strength

Not as godly as it once was, but pallets are still strong, and Brutal Strength lets you get through pallets.

#5: Remember Me

Extra time on the gates is a lifesaver, and DS even lets you get another stack!

It's risky if you can't kill the obsession in time, but if you do you're probably gonna get another kill in the endgame.

#4: Enduring

Allows you to disrespect pallets without much penalty, and helps considerably against Decisive.

#3: A Nurse's Calling

Being able to see people who are healing is incredible, since it tells you exactly where a vulnerable target is.

#2: BBQ and Chili

0 downtime. Down a guy, hook him, see another, chase that guy, down him, repeat.

After the early game, you don't have to waste time looking for people since you're shown everybody whenever you succeed, allowing you to chain chases constantly and make the most of your limited time.

#1: Hex: Ruin

When a perk is mandatory despite usually being cleansed in the first minute of a match, you know it's good.

Games go too quickly, and Ruin helps with that.

Who is in the locker?

Posted: 08 May 2018 01:54 PM PDT

I wish they’d add more items to the game.

Posted: 08 May 2018 01:45 PM PDT

The items are getting stale and I really loved the Chinese firecracker from a few months ago. Really wish they'd create a few new items, maybe one with each new chapter or something. It's annoying that in my bloodweb, I have to spend points for add-ons for keys or maps when they rarely even appear in my webs. I have sooooo many map twines, stamps, key tokens, etc. I'd much rather be putting my hard-earned bloodpoints into more usable things lol
