New Trial Moderators!

Posted: 10 May 2018 03:11 PM PDT

Hello, /r/GlobalOffenders!

We recently held round 9 of our moderator applications for /r/GlobalOffensive. In the 5 days the applications were up, we received 188 applications.

Some useless fun statistics

The 188 applications totaled a cumulative 104,108 words - nearly 10,000 more words than The Hobbit, which is roughly a 300 page book. The average application was 566 words long (which is 49 words shorter than last time).

Of these 188 applicants,

  • 24 people (12.7%) mentioned the game Minecraft at least once

  • 16 people (8.5%) mentioned they were Computer Science majors

  • 15 people (7.9%) used some form of foul language

  • 5 specifically named at least one current or past moderator

The average age of an applicant was 20.8 years, contrasting the average age of the moderation team, which is 25 years -- 15 people ranging from 19 to 33. The average age of the 10 accepted applicants is 21.2.

New Trial Moderators

We decided on the following 10 users:

These people will be your trial moderators for the next month! As they learn the ropes and go through the Trial process they will be using specialised removal reasons to track their progress. Please be forgiving and patient with them and feel free to send in a modmail if you have any complaints or concerns.

All of us on the mod team will be working harder than usual to ensure everyone is properly getting their footing and making correct decisions, but mistakes will undoubtedly happen. We will do everything we can to correct them swiftly and fairly. If they are successful in passing this trial phase, they will become full moderators!

ESEA moves up CLG red to Advanced without them qualifiying

Posted: 10 May 2018 04:34 PM PDT

Bet he didn't see this one coming

Posted: 10 May 2018 06:03 AM PDT

CLG Red get gifted a slot into ESEA's new "Advanced" Division while other male teams get held back. ESEA Admins are censoring threads on their forums by users complaining about this matter.

Posted: 10 May 2018 05:08 PM PDT

Situation in a non biased way (TLDR at the bottom):

ESEA adds a new division between Main and MDL called "Advanced". You can now only qualify to MDL through Advanced. Advanced is a really important division.

ESEA promotes all Main playoff teams, a couple of Intermediate playoff teams and a couple of open playoff teams to it.

ESEA then accepts extra applications for this new division. Multiple male teams (but not limited to females) that have not made playoffs file an application to join this new division (through this division ONLY you can qualify for MDL).

ESEA declines the male team applications, many teams finishing barely outside of playoffs, other teams with multiple players with past experience all get declined.

CLG Red, a female team that has NEVER made playoffs for 7 seasons applies and ESEA ACCEPTS this team, even though other male teams that have made playoffs (in the past) get declined.

Why should a female team get accepted over other male teams that are better and have proven that they are better? Is this sexism? I argue that this is 100% full blown sexism.

You know something is sexist when you reverse the roles. Reverse the roles in your head. What an outcry there would have been.

People on ESEA complained about this on the forums. What did the ESEA staff end up doing? Banning the users and deleting their threads.

Here are some responses to the situation by "emy" and "di" two CLG Red players. They are making the argument that people are upset because they are female, which is false.

You also see "emy" harassing a user which is against ESEA's guidelines. She is making fun of that individuals statistics.

https://imgur.com/a/G6IBk6p

https://play.esea.net/teams/54882 here is the teams roster in question.

TLDR;

CLG Red gets added to ESEA's new division just because they are female while other teams more worthy of the invite do not get accepted. This new division is now the ONLY way to get into MDL. The community of ESEA is complaining on the forums but they are being censored by the admins, the users are getting banned and getting their threads locked for discussing this problem.
