True Dota 2 - Google Assistant Dota app for counter-picking and spell info: “Hey Google, ask True Sight which mid heroes counter Razor?”, “What is the damage type of Assassinate?”

Google Assistant Dota app for counter-picking and spell info: “Hey Google, ask True Sight which mid heroes counter Razor?”, “What is the damage type of Assassinate?”

Posted: 01 Apr 2018 11:23 AM PDT

I've just release a Google Assistant app for Dota called True Sight (same name as my Android app). I've focused on answering quick questions you might want to ask when counter-picking, or details about abilities you'd want to know in the middle of a game.

Currently it can help counter pick:

  • Hey Google, ask True Sight who counters Tinker?

  • Hey Google, ask True Sight which supports are strong against Disruptor?

  • Hey Google, ask True Sight does Sven counter Meepo?

And for abilities it knows their cooldowns, damage type, and whether they pierce spell immunity:

  • Hey Google, ask True Sight what is the cooldown of Tidehunter's ultimate?

  • Hey Google, ask True Sight if Assassinate does physical damage?

  • Hey Google, ask True Sight what are Disruptor's abilities?

  • Hey Google, ask True Sight if Glimpse goes through BKB?

Would be great to have some feedback, and ideas for where I could take it next! Obviously, there are a lot of subtleties to Dota which an assistant could know about, but it's hard to know what would be most useful in-game (although a Star Trek AI which had perfect knowledge of a Dota Wiki would be the dream!)

To use True Sight say "Talk to True Sight" to a Google Home or the Google Assistant app on iPhone/Android (on Android you can open the app by holding down the home button). Google Assistant Directory link: https://assistant.google.com/services/a/uid/000000a107a00bac?hl=en-GB

True Sight a is GPL Free Software written in python using django, you can peek behind the scenes and see the code here: https://github.com/dbdkmezz/true-sight-backend

When is it a good idea to pick Nyx Assassin?

Posted: 01 Apr 2018 08:22 AM PDT

Moreover, when is he better to pick as a 3 as opposed to 4? Is it ever okay to pick him as a mid when not against OD?

Two Lanes, One Push - Which Rax do you take second?

Posted: 01 Apr 2018 11:04 AM PDT

Assuming the other team have been attempting to competently splitpush in advance of a push where you have some sort of advantage (gold lead, aegis, cooldowns, dead core etc), I very frequently run into the following situation or one analogous to it with different lanes:

We're radiant. We take dire mid rax. Neither team has any tier 2s. For whatever reason, we believe that we are capable of taking a second rax, but not all three, and we can't throne. Top lane is pushed for us by Dire T2. Bot Lane is pushed for them by Radiant T2.

Do you take the rax where the push is advantageous towards you, creating more immidiate pressure, where after your retreat, heroes will have to spend more time clearing the base, or do you take the rax where they have immidiate pressure on you in bot lane?

In situations where, let's say we've lost top rax, we've just taken mid rax - do you take top to equalize the lanes, or take bot to create a mismatch where each team has one lane pushing out opposite eachother, and you also have mid?

I have no stats, but from casual watching, it seems pro teams frequently go for the rax where they have current pressure, and then go clear out the other lane.

Instead of taking a second rax, is it sometimes better to take t4s?

Propose any other interesting question/scenario you think of involving similar choices.

How and when did Leshrac become relevant in pro-dota?

Posted: 01 Apr 2018 11:09 AM PDT

It seems almost random where leshrac started becoming normal picks in competitive dota, and I can't quite pin point how and when. I see his strength in pushing, stun, and catching heroes with his slow, but why leshrac and not another hero?

Warlock Support

Posted: 01 Apr 2018 08:32 AM PDT

Warlock support is safe to first pick, viable in both position 4/5. I've been spamming him a lot recently and found a lot of success, so I'll share this post for those looking to climb up by supporting! I certainly believe Warlock is a great support anywhere between 1k-3.8k, since Warlock can be played greedy (Aghs rush), and highly impact the game.

Skill Build:

Take the 2nd spell, Shadow Word, at level 1 (unless situational). It is very good for sustaining in lane. Your job is to heal your safelane carry so he won't have to go back to the fountain for the first 5 minutes. It can be used to zone out the offlaner. The 3rd spell, Upheaval is a channeling spell, which is kind of broken when the enemies do not bother to kite it down. I find myself mastering Upheaval over Shadow Word very often, but it comes down to preferences and lane-ups. Your skill build should look something like 0-3-2-1 at level 6. One value point in Fatal Bond is fine if you're dealing with illusion/summoner heroes.

Itemization:

If you're playing position 5, start with a courier, 2 Obs wards, 1 sentry, Tango, Healing Salve, Clarity. Positoin 4 can be tricky, but you'd want to buy sufficient regen to win the lane. Purchase Brown Boots asap by the side shop.

In big picutre, there are 2 ways of playing Warlock.

A) Arcane Boots/Glimmer Cape/Forcestaff (Position 5)

This build is used when you're forced to play dead poor under situation where you cannot absolutely find a space to farm. Help your safelane carry win the lane by abusing Shadow Word, and stick with your team ~ minute 10. Use your ultimate to open a teamfight or secure a kill. Upheaval is still insanely strong in big clash, so remember to cast your Upheaval right after dropping the Golem bomb.

B) Brown Boots/Midas -> Aghs+Refresher (Position 4)

You can easily pick up Aghs by minute 20 if you manage to collect some bounty runes and made correct rotation to farm. Skipping Midas is fine. Cast your ultimate to initiate or counter initiate. Cast Fatal Bond and Upheaval. Then, focus on controling your Golems to right click your enemies. Once you get Aghs, remember that your ultimate is a game changing spell like Black Hole. It has a very long cooldown, so be careful not to waste it in goofy fights. Position 4 Warlock can win the game by himself. Get Refresher when the game gets dragged on to super late. If you drop Golems twice in a row (3 times with Refrehser Orb), nobody can survive the clash unless they pop BKB. Therefore, the counterplay is wait for their enemy BKB to end, or cast your ultimate before they pop BKB.

Talent Tree:

Level 10: +150 Cast Range

Level 15: 60% XP gain

Level 20: Summons a Golem on death

Level 25: Golems Magic Immunity

(Talent can always go either way by situation, but the above is what I find the most impactful.)

The link above is the recent game of mine playing Warlock as position 5. I communicated with my team a lot, so this video can be helpful if you're willing to watch how Divine players make advantage in early game and leverage from it.

Roamers that can transition to a core position?

Posted: 01 Apr 2018 08:23 AM PDT

Heya,

After analyzing the win rates of my matches via dotabuff I found out that I have 76% win rate when I play in a core position and a 84% win rate when I play a roaming core.

This lead me to the question of what roaming core options there are. So far it seems like a weird way of just saying "Mirana". Legend 2 party, unranked solo for reference.

My favorite roamer and hero overall is Bounty Hunter by far. I value vision (both denying it my enemies via shadow walk and getting it with track and shadow walk) a lot, so he's my obvious fit, although I dislike playing him as a core.

Dealing with Tidehunter

Posted: 01 Apr 2018 02:07 AM PDT

Hi I've been playing a lot of Terrorblade lately and I find myself winning a lot of lanes vs a lot of offlaners save for Tide and I find myself going to the jungle earlier than I want to. I've a lot of success vsing him with other melee carries but my Terrorblade seems to struggle a lot. Any tips? Or is Terrorblade really a bad match up vs Tide?

Viper Skill Build

Posted: 31 Mar 2018 07:17 PM PDT

The standard skill build on Viper is 4-0-4, which is great if you're winning the lane. But when Viper loses his lane, which has happened a few times at DAC, the players use the same skill build, and Viper doesn't feel like a hero for most of the game. I'm surprised players don't put any points into Nethertoxin and catch up by farming jungle, building Drums, and ferrying clarities. I get that maxing Poison Attack early is really nasty, but why 4 points in Corrosive Skin before any in Nethertoxin?

Opinions on Invoker HotD

Posted: 31 Mar 2018 09:44 PM PDT

Knowing that invoker is a fairly weak hero right now but is still played by some SEA teams, what do you guys think about him going HotD? I'm thinking something like HotD plus Aquila will make a strong push that wouldn't be easy to stop. Or perhaps it's too much commitment for an extra creep and the nice stats and regen that the item gives?

Finding the Area of an AoE spell

Posted: 31 Mar 2018 11:41 PM PDT

I decided to do some math on Lesh stun and I compared the area difference of each level. It is pretty simple math since its just the area of a circle and they give you the radius. but the values seem really high. Like lvl 1 stun is almost 71000 units squared

Does it just seem weird because of Dota using the ambiguous "unit" unit of measurement or am i just failing at elementary math?

Morphling poll

Posted: 31 Mar 2018 08:41 PM PDT

Contrary to popular belief I still think the old morphling was better because he had a better time farming as a split pusher. It seems like the game is shifting to gifting heroes more spells but I had more fun playing him as a split pusher and not a poor man's rubick.
