Jeb, you have said you don't want to add penguins due to the backlash to Polar Bears. I urge you to reconsider for several reasons.

Polar Bears were added in 1.10, the smallest main update ever. Polar Bears did nothing. The update was so small, and people were annoyed they didn't flesh it out. This also applies to parrots, but less.

With penguins, it is different. The Update Aquatic is already huge - a new mob is just going to help it. The issue with Polar Bears, and to a lesser extent parrots, was the size of the update they were in.

Furthermore, Penguins could be really useful! They could give an ingredient to improve underwater agility, and they could have a very interesting egg mechanic. They'd be another reason to visit the Iceberg biome.

Maybe it is too late to add them now, but they have a lot of potential and it'd be silly to ignore it.

The problem I have with Minecraft's Render Distance

Posted: 14 Apr 2018 01:33 PM PDT

While other games have huge World where you can see to the Horizon, Minecraft only let's you appreciate a couple hundred meters of all the beautiful maps that are out there. So, I have always wondered why that's the case, until I got more into how 3D rendering and Video games work in general. While other games simply reduce details the further you move from an object, Minecraft only seems to reduce shadows and hide entities at a certain distance. As far as I know, Minecraft renders all the blocks (or maybe only all the visible Blocks) in the chunks that are loaded/generated, but in full detail. So I wonder why doesn't the game just reduce textures at a distance where you wouldn't notice it, so that blocks only have a single color on every face? Or why isn't there a system where block are "summed up" into bigger cubes? For example instead of rendering every single block take the block that is most common in a 4x4, 8x8, etc area and only render a bigger less detailed cube. Would a system like that or similar to that work? Is there already a Mod for it? I've just always been annoyed that you can't just look in the distance to look at a big city or at terrain to see where you want to explore and I think that this would be a HUGE change to Minecraft which would help the Game Survive over time.

I honestly don't know anything about how Minecraft's engine works, and would appreciate feedback from anybody who does.
