Targeting really needs improvement

Posted: 07 Apr 2018 12:01 PM PDT

There are far too many times where I try to target a specific enemy and instead target everything else, like engineer sentries, pets, allies and even other enemies.

Seeing as there is little reason to target allies and their pets/robots, I would love it if enemies had priority targeting.

I would also love a "target nearby highest rank" function instead of just "target next" and "target nearest".

QOL for Endless Tonics

Could we have an item that stores all the endless tonics and unlimited-use transformations that we have?

Saves slots and removes clutter and tidier.

What do you wish there was in GW2 that you enjoyed in original GW

Posted: 07 Apr 2018 06:31 PM PDT

I really miss the days when a team would get together and do a run for the Underworld chest. I really miss the Realm of Torment. My favorite was a 2 hour run through the Domain Of Anguish to get Margonite stones and put them together to get an Armbrace of Truth. At one point I had 15 Armbraces. I wish GW2 had something comparable.

[Request] Remove cooldown on Improvements

Posted: 07 Apr 2018 07:29 AM PDT

Seriously, why is this a thing? I am not even asking for "consume all" but I want atleast be able to spam the consumables. It takes really quite some time to use them. Not even adding the unnecessary time spent in guildhall adding them to this strange "device-machine-thing whatever".

Possibilities for future elite spec mechanics

Posted: 07 Apr 2018 01:37 AM PDT

First off, this is not me just designing my own elite specs, this is an analysis of how elite specs are implemented and ways each class could use those differing implementations.

Elite spec mechanics fall into at least 1 of 3 different categories: addition, enhancement, or replacement. Most mechanics behave as some combination, however.

Addition is the most basic implementation. It is a new mechanic that does not change any of the profession's existing mechanics. Examples include chronomancer's Continuum Split/Shift and renegade's Citadel Orders.

Enhancement does not fundamentally change the nature of the mechanic, but it adds a change that strengthens it and makes it more unique. Examples of this are daredevil's dodges and tempest's Overload.

Finally, replacement is a total change of the mechanic, resulting in a vastly different style. The scourge's Shades are the most prominent example.

Looking at each profession individually, we can see how each elite spec has changed the mechanics, and question how future specs could change the profession further:

Warrior: both berserker and spellbreaker have had additions (Berserk mode, Full Counter), and berserker's Primal Bursts are enhancements of the original Burst skills. Warrior has not had a replacement of the Burst skills yet, so it could be a target of future development. Imagine using your adrenaline to temporarily increase stats or for healing,or to promote party-wide unique buffs similar to GW1 Paragons.

Guardian: has not received an additional Virtue, as both its elite specs enhance or replace it's base Virtues. I would be interested in seeing either an additional, stronger Virtue, or some form change like soulbeast.

Revenant: so far, it has only had additional mechanics added to it instead of changing its existing systems. Total replacements are unlikely, but an enhancement could be used to assist in energy management or creating effects after channeling, like Overloading a legend.

Ranger: druid and soulbeast added form changes, with the soulbeast also replacing the pet mechanic with additional abilities. Perhaps a beastmaster class could enhance the pet and their inherent abilities

Thief: daredevil only enhanced the thief's dodge, and deadeye enhanced Steal and added Mark. The initiative system has remained untouched, and is unlikely to change. However, I have heard some calls for more intricate combos like the Assassin from GW1, and replacing initiative with something like combo points instead could work. It would require an update to preexisting skills, but ANet has shown they are willing to put in the effort.

Engineer: the scrapper only added a function gyro, and holosmith added photon forge, only replacing one toolbelt skill. Either an enhancement or a replacement of the toolbelt skills would require a lot of skill updates or new skills, so I would expect to see another mechanic added, likely similar to how photon forge was implemented.

Elementalist: both tempest and weaver enhanced the element swapping. Replacing the elements would not work. I think adding to the element swapping is possible because Elementalists could always attune to Arcane magic; they have a traitline for it.

Necromancer: while the reaper enhanced the Death Shroud and scourge replaced it, nothing has simply added to the class. Perhaps the necro will receive additional F skills that can be used during the shroud. I would consider this likely if changes/significant buffs are given to the basic Death Shroud before the next expansion release.

Mesmer: chronomancer only added to the base class, and mirage mostly added with some enhancements to weapon skills and clone functionality. With the recent change to Phantasms, I think the next mesmer elite spec might replace the shatter skills with a mechanic that does not destroy Clones, thus necessitating a change to Phantasms.

I know this analysis is not perfect, especially with spellbreaker losing an adrenaline bar, but I think it is a good simplification of the elite specs. It's intended to start a discussion about the future of elite specs and what different ways we would like to see them taken.

Every year SAB comes around and before it gets here, I'm super excited to finally try it.

Posted: 07 Apr 2018 07:00 PM PDT

And then every year I'm too scared of it to try because the one time I did, it was so overwhelming and complicated that I've been scared to try again since. It's all so complicated I don't think I even finished world 1.

Anyone else get this with SAB or other holidays?

What's the minimum needed for raiding?

Posted: 07 Apr 2018 04:16 PM PDT

Title, basically. I want to get into raiding but with gw2 being the only mmorpg I have played extensively ever and the horror stories I read here from time to time, I am both confused at what would be the minimum things I'd need for raiding and afraid about backlash if I don't perform to expectations

I know checking and learning the boss's mechanics is vital, but beyond that, I don't know what I need. Help, please?

Best "expansion-specialization" for T4 fractals

Posted: 07 Apr 2018 02:16 PM PDT

Hello reddit!

I'm finally able to afford one of the two addons and I can't decide which one to get.

Basically, I want to play a lot of high-level fractals including challenge modes and maybe even start raiding at some point but it's mainly fractals I'm interested in. For this I want to ask you, which addon would be the better one. I heard a lot of good things about Spellbreaker for removing boons (is this needed a lot?) and dealing damage, and also about Druids for healing and boon generation.

Apparently, Daredevils are easy to play and still deal quite some damage, but as far as I've heard most groups don't like them or something because they don't bring a lot of utility? Chrono and Weaver both seem a bit too difficult to me..

Basically it's HoT for:

  • Druid for healing and boons
  • Daredevil or Dragonhunter as DD
  • Berserker for some damage offensive support

VS PoF:

  • Spellbreaker for boon removal and damage
  • Renegade for Might and Alacrity(?)
  • Mirage or Firebrand as condi DD classes

Which of these classes are needed the most/make a difference in a group so it's easier to complete encounters? I would like to be valuable to my group and maybe even look into raids once i'm more comfortable with my class.

Speaking of Raids: As far as I know, raids are tied to their specific Addons, so I wouldn't be able to look into all of those, is that correct?

And if so, would you rather recommend HoT raids or should I focus on PoF because they'll release new raids for that?

Sorry for the questions but i'm genuinely afraid that I mess this up without your advice.

Thank you very much in advance!

Edit: Thank you so much for your input, I had no idea about the different stat combinations each expansion offers. It looks like I'll start with Heart of Thorns, so I can get most of the stats and to take a look at Dragonhunter, Druid and Berserker!
