Depression and Gaming: The Kindness Community!

Posted: 31 Mar 2018 08:46 AM PDT

Hey, i'm Sentrix and i'm the creator of The Kindness Community, we are a community of gamers that suffer from depression, autism, bipolar and other types of mental illnesses, when I was a kid I was bullied at school for being different, I didn't understand why people bullied me or didn't like me, I felt hopeless and I NEVER want this to happen to anyone else ever again. Recently I decided to create a community for gamers like me to join and have fun together without being judged or bullied because it's something I would have loved to have when I was younger. We have a new discord server for everyone to have a safe space to just chill out and have fun, the link is https://discord.gg/qaqR8D5, I hope everyone has a wonderful day.

I was unknowingly scammed into a raid selling PUG group.

Posted: 31 Mar 2018 03:32 PM PDT

Today I went to kill Dhuum because I still needed the kill. Three players who were there were in the same guild: the commander and two squad members. Before Dhuum was about to die, I noticed a squad member from the guild leaving and a random person was invited to our squad. They joined the instance before Dhuum was killed.

I had no idea this was a raid sell until I checked out raid LFM afterwards and saw the same guild and commander selling raid bosses for an extremely cheap price. This just baffles me that players can abuse others into unknowingly selling raids. I honestly feel used and hope that there can be measures done to prevent this type of thing in the future.

History of possible AP gain (in pictures and numbers)

Posted: 31 Mar 2018 02:01 PM PDT

Every now and then for the last couple of years a discussion about achievement point gain pops up somewhere on this subreddit, usually about how achievements these days give very little AP and about how those who weren't playing during LW Season 1 missed out on so many points. However, this was always mostly based on guesswork and memory, and I wanted to see how true it really is. So I scoured the wiki's history pages in order to put together as accurate an image of how AP was added to the game throughout its history as possible.

And this is the result.

(For more mobile-friendly images, see these with or without the game's launch. Don't ask me why are they so small, ask Google.)

Notes on the process

There are a couple things to note:

  • Daily and Monthly achievements are excluded. They evolved rather wildly in the beginning and I didn't feel like figuring out their availability on a day-to-day basis.
  • Black Lion Collections and Hero—Birthdays are also skipped, since those usually happen off the main release schedule and would be annoying to count. Sprinkle 163 AP at will throughout the history for a more complete picture.
  • Annually reappearing achievements (such as SAB, Warming Grawnk's Heart...) are counted as permanent. Annually copied achievements (Wintersday, Halloween...) are considered temporary. Retired achievements are also considered temporary (which is why the game's initial launch has some) – this includes SAB's World 3 preview (hopefully not forever!) but excludes Hint Completion, since every account has it automatically unlocked.
  • Achievements which were slowly being developed and rolled out (such as Legendary Armor or Eldvin Monastery Brew Club) are counted as they were updated and further tiers could be reached. On the other hand, achievements which were fully developed since the start but couldn't be finished immediately due to time-gating are counted at the achievement's first release, for the same reasons as I skipped the Dailies – this includes the Crimson Assassin weapons and festival Daily group achievements such as Course Load.
  • Repeatable achievements are counted at their cap, even if they were initially unlimited (such as Agent of Entropy).
  • Achievements released just a couple of days within each other (such as the first SAB and Flame and Frost: The Razing) are often counted together at one of the dates.
  • I tried my best to capture the history as precisely as I could, including whatever achievement moves, retirements, returns or AP reward changes I ran into. However I'm sure there are some mistakes, either by me or by the occasional wiki page not being updated properly. For instance some PvP Conqueror achievements weren't often up to date, so some of those could be off by a couple months. Also apparently there are Miniature Collections both in the Retired Achievements and in Basic Collection – I only counted them for the latter, but I'm not exactly sure what's up with those.

Overall statistics

Finally it's time for a couple stats to see how good or bad actually are the AP rewards these days:

Time period Permanent AP Temporary AP Total AP
Launch 5826 90 5916
Season 1 2899 4011 6910
Season 2 1389 351 1740
Heart of Thorns 1565 10 1575
Post HoT + Season 3 3180 593 3773
Path of Fire 1266 0 1266
Season 4 (up to SAB 2018) 1040 221 1261
All (w/o Dailies, BL collections and Birthdays) 17165 5276 22441

The temporary APs are overall distributed as follows:

Type Temporary AP
LW Season 1 2712
Festivals 1724
WvW tournaments 714
Retired achievements 126

Conclusion

It is certainly true that the time period of LW Season 1 was the most lucrative one in terms of AP gain. On the other hand, the Season 1's fleeting story added 2712 AP total, which is certainly less than I personally originally expected, making up approximately half of all currently unavailable APs. If you've never earned a single temporary AP or you're just starting, you're most likely forever be set back by over 5000 AP behind the current top achievers.

But who knows, maybe one day the gates to the Queen's Pavilion will open once again. ^^ Actually that wouldn't help that much...

Please Make CMs Raids Repeatable

Posted: 31 Mar 2018 12:27 PM PDT

Please do something to make CM rewards repeatable. Dhuum CM is a pain to find right now because there's no reason at all to repeat it.

EDIT: Make the CM reward not trigger the normal mode and then they won't affect the population of normal difficulty raids.

LEGO Infantile Cloud

Posted: 31 Mar 2018 02:29 PM PDT

My husband and I were lucky to get one each three (I think?) years ago when we met Josh Foreman.

Photos! Enjoy!

Being his awesome self, he signed our boxes as well! :D

If I had the money to raid a LEGO store, it'd be pretty fun to build an entire level... or, Idk, World 3 maybe? (I can dream...) ;)

I don't know how many of these Anet released into the world, I haven't seen a lot about them online. But I really only remember to google them about once a year.

Hope you like the photos :)

Can we have different colour text for our own conjures we summon or an option to make others invisible?

Posted: 31 Mar 2018 04:13 PM PDT

Would be very helpful to see which conjure is mine (Icebow/Lightning Hammer) when pugging, seems like a good and easy QoL to implement.

A Community for Singles!

Posted: 31 Mar 2018 05:41 PM PDT

Hello everybody! My name is Holly, and I have a few questions for all of you! What would you say in response to the idea of a community meant specifically for single people that play Guild Wars 2? Would you scoff at the idea? Think it is a bad idea, and want nothing to do with it? Love the idea and want in? I'd like to know your opinion, as long as it isn't mean-spirited. How would you like to see such a community be run?

I have recently taken it upon myself to create a community where the over-arching "theme" is that it is clear everyone here is looking for love, and you should not be afraid of a little flirtatious behaviour. People who join have to fill out a short but sweet introduction about themselves in our Discord, and are encouraged to join the voice communications and socialize.

Why I chose to create this community was because I myself have had experiences of romance in Guild Wars 2. My ex and I met in Lion's Arch, and we were together for 2 years. Those were some of the best years of my life. I also have heard stories of people getting married after finding each other in-game. I want to help people from all corners of the globe and all walks of life achieve this. Think of it as my Wyld Hunt.

To answer some questions I see a lot:

  • No, we are not all sad, lonely men in our mom's basements. We are real people with real feelings, and just want to express those feeling with/to others. Calling this community "sad" or "cringe-y" is a slap in the face of all who find it hard seeking love.

  • Yes, you will find that the gender gap is noticeably skewed in favor of men, and this is unavoidable in any "dating" community. We do take steps to avoid having our female or feminine members from being "swarmed".

  • No, you do not have to leave if you find love while in our guild. You must, however, make it clear you have done so.

  • You must be 18 years or older to join. If you are found to be underage, you will be removed.

  • Yes, this is real. Why WOULDN'T you seek love in a (social oriented) game you enjoy? If you find someone, you immediately have common ground in the type of games you like.

  • I myself am female, so do not insinuate that the community is just a "sausage fest".

With all that out of the way, I'd like to pass the conversation off to you guys. Again, I'd love to hear from you regarding this idea for a community, as long as criticism is constructive. I will keep the Discord link to myself, as I do not want it in a public post, but feel free to comment or message me here on reddit asking for it, and I'll give it to you in PMs. Anyway, thank you all for reading my post. Have a wonderful day/night!

Cheers!

-Holly

Guild Wars 2 Lore | Sylvari, Children of the Tree

Would you be willing to pay for a “DLC” type of release for SAB W3/W4 or LW Season 1?

Posted: 30 Mar 2018 11:57 PM PDT

Wondering what the general consensus was for the above topic. Anet has stated that they don't want to pull resources from their main release items to develop the rest of SAB or a replay-able version of Living World Season 1. However, if they released it in an "expansion" or "dlc" type of package, they may be able to justify a team dedicated to those items. Would you be willing to dish out $10 or $15 for per-package releases? I would personally, they'd give me more than enough game time to justify the cost.
