I finally pinned down why I like Fallout more than The Elder Scrolls Posted: 02 Apr 2018 05:49 PM PDT It's how silly it is. The Elder Scrolls takes a lot of things seriously; the world is dark, quiet, and simple. Folk go about their simple fantasy lives with touches of magic here and there. Bandits and assassins, armed with blades and coated in leather and plate. You take your mercenary work as it comes, slaying beasts and assisting the local villages. In Fallout I beat up some raiders with a spiked boxing glove while wearing a bright blue skintight bodysuit and a baseball helmet, all to the theme of "Bongo Bongo Bongo I don't want to leave the congo...", and I celebrated with a nice NukaCola™. Unpopular Opinion: I'm fine with how Salem was handled in Fo4 Posted: 03 Apr 2018 02:49 PM PDT One of the most common complaints I've heard of concerning Fallout 4 is the numerous "missed opportunities." For example, lots of people have complained that the only quests involving Salem - which actually isn't the home of the infamous Salem Witch Trials, those actually took place in nearby Danvers (formerly Salem Village) - are "Gun Run" and "The Devil's Due." Many people complain that this missed the opportunity of having a Witch Trials-inspired quest, especially considering the actual witch hunts the Commonwealth's suffering through right now due to paranoia over Synths. This, of course, ignores the fact that the game actually has random encounters in the Sole Survivor's settlements, where Settlers accuse each other of being Synths and the Sole Survivor then must decide from there how to respond. Or that Bethesda had to shrink the size of the Commonwealth to account for hardware limitations, and might've not even planned out a Salem Witch Trials quest since it might've been seen as too predictable. But here's why I'm happy with how Salem was handled: It sidestepped the indirect glorification on the Trials. By having a guest based around witches/Synths in Salem, I feel that it would've served as an indirect validation of the hysteria that caused the trials and killed several innocent people. J.M. McNab really sums up my thoughts on this subject in this article here, and I'm definitely aware of the fact that my opinion isn't that popular, but I still think it deserves to be noted. I encourage civil discussion below! Have a pleasant day! EDIT: Grammar. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Apr 2018 01:45 PM PDT Probably been talked about before but I think a Detroit/Detroit River/Toronto theme would a cool setting for a future game. The two cities could be rivaling factions, with all the goodies in between. Expand upon this if you want but that's just a cool idea I thought I'd share :) Didn't play 1&2 so I'm not sure what's going on over there lore-wise, but I've heard Bethesda doesn't mind screwing that up. Rust Town the Scavenger's safe haven Posted: 03 Apr 2018 10:04 AM PDT Inspired by Fallout 1's Junk Town, Rust town is home to the Rust Lord, a former raider leader that turned scavver. The town was built as a place for Scavver's to rest, eat, sleep and not have to worry about raiders. This is Rust Town I'll add the modlist once I get home from work. [link] [comments] |
FO4: What's the WORST starting SPECIAL stats you can come up with? Posted: 03 Apr 2018 06:34 AM PDT For anyone who wants the challenge of a "barely playable" character, given that you have to assign all 21 allotted points, what's the worst way you could handicap yourself right out of Vault 111? In my mind, it's got to be 2 Strength, 3 Perception, 10 Endurance, 10 Charisma, 1 Intelligence, 1 Agility and 1 Luck. Slowest leveling possible, virtually as bad at V.A.T.S. as possible, and no really great perks in the two high stats. But at least you can buy all the top-tier merchandise to maybe give yourself a fighting chance... [link] [comments] |

Posted: 03 Apr 2018 11:06 AM PDT I reinstalled FNV today for the first time since switching PCs and for the first time I've received some unique sort of lag. While the game runs at >60 FPS, I have extremely visible mouse lag and the world around me looks like it's lagging when I move. I tried various mouse acceleration fixes (that's also an issue on the menus), disabling vsync in the options, in Fallout_default. Any fixes to this? EDIT: It works perfectly without ENB. Mind you this still makes no sense as even with the ENB I far exceed the recommended requirements. Again, even with the ENB the FPS is >60, but my movement just seems laggy. [link] [comments] |

FO3: Love Tenpenny Tower and Ghouls Posted: 03 Apr 2018 01:36 PM PDT We were talking about Nu Fallout elsewhere and in a separate thread there was a discussion on Dragon Age: Origins. Don't get me wrong, I like both Bethesda and BioWare. However I'm sure I'm not alone in thinking BW's "golden ending" to many conflicts is kinda annoying. Geth and Quarians been killing each other for centuries? It can all be solved in minutes and everlasting peace is established. Werewolves and Elves? Same thing. And so-on and so-forth. So, in Fallout 3, you expect more of the same. Everyone is made happy and you have resolved the enmity, you hero you. You have helped these two conflicted groups come together in harmony. Then you leave and return later to discover....that...oh...oh no. The Ghouls fuckin' massacred the Tenpenny Tower folks. This isn't a happy ending at all. (well, it might be but it's not the "both sides live happily ever after" I've been describing) This was shocking to me and I've never seen anything like it in a WRPG. People love to say FO3 railroads you and has no real choices or whatever. This quest and so many others shows how alive the world of FO3 is and it makes it very special. I love it. Fallout 4 Update for PS4 has just been released. Posted: 03 Apr 2018 08:20 AM PDT Most likely content for creation club. (565.8MB) I will update you all on what content it is and if it's good. Edit - 16:29: No content as of yet. It should be expected later today. Edit2: The update is slightly smaller on steam. Question about the Sino-American war in the Philippines Posted: 03 Apr 2018 07:06 AM PDT For my Fallout History FanArt series I want to make a post about the Sino-American war in the Philippines. In Fallout 4 the newscaster on tv reads out this line:
According to the wiki the US forces are fighting the Chinese army in Mambajao, which is the capital city of the island province of Camiguin in the Philippines. Now my question is, who would have invaded the Philippines first? Did China invade to gain access to the natural resources there, spread communism and finally settle the territorial disputes between the two countries in the South China sea (which was also about Oil which is present in the area) and did the US "spring to the defence of their special ally", with gaining access to the resources there and driving out communism as a nice bonus Or did the US invade to use their former colony as a staging ground for invasions into mainland China, while also gaining access to the country's natural resources with China "coming to the aid of its neighbour" and, again, gaining access to the resources and driving out the US forces that threaten mainland China as a convenient side effect. (I doubt either side really cared about protecting the people of the Philippines) What do you think is most likely to happen in the Philippines in the Pre War universe of Fallout? (keeping in mind that it ends with a war between China and the US fought in at least the Bohol Sea, maybe in the rest of the Philippines as well) [link] [comments] |
What happened at Camo Guardian Posted: 03 Apr 2018 02:31 PM PDT I just did it and collected all the journal pages/explored the cave and what exactly happened is still confusing. Like why did the NCR send them to such an unsafe place, why didn't they get supplied with basic stuff like radios, ect. If I missed something that makes sense of it please explain [link] [comments] |
I’m running a fallout themed tabletop campaign and need random encounters. Posted: 03 Apr 2018 10:11 AM PDT I'm using r/VnV but I'm new to dming in general. I'm making a random encounter table but I'm stumped for ideas. Any help would be appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Immersive representation of loot Posted: 03 Apr 2018 03:50 PM PDT Salvage beacons are great. The APC as an immersive drop off point is good. The various back pack and duffle bag mods are awesome. But no matter what, it's difficult to reconcile a dude lugging a bunch of long guns, bags of ammo, comics, armors and grilled steaks with no change in his appearance or athletic performance. It'd be the same if I dumped everything on to my chums. Aside from cutting his carrying weight limit to 75 and building a robot to carry extra loot, is there an immersive way to lug loot around that actually represents the weight he is carrying? Even the satchels on the robots don't make a lot sense as they are too small. Is there a mod for little red wagons to tug along or at least bigger looking bags? [link] [comments] |
Herbert Dashwood, most underrated Fallout character. Agreed or disagreed? Posted: 03 Apr 2018 12:57 AM PDT |
A Small Conspiracy on Ghouls and The FEV in Fallout 4 Posted: 03 Apr 2018 03:14 PM PDT Ghouls have been a part of the fallout series since its earliest beginnings. We know them all too well, the rough-skinned, raspy-voiced, seemingly immortal-to-age ghouls seen as human by some, and the mindless beasts consumed by radiation seen roaming the wastes aimlessly, known as ferals. We were told that these ghouls were a rare product of gamma radiation and the human body, that they suffered through exposure to the bombs that fell long ago, yet not perished to their flames. But what if it was no accident that these ghouls exist? What if there were larger, more ominous hands at play than mere gamma radiation and 50s science? To answer this question, we are going to need to investigate two families and a misfortunate group of people. THE PEABODY FAMILYStarring in the quest "Kid in a Fridge", a family of three was turned completely into ghouls. High-functioning, normal ghouls too. It should also be noted that Billy does not appear to require any sustenance whatsoever for two centuries, as this will be referenced later. The ghouls found inside the upper levels of the manor may be former servants or houseguests. THE CROUP FAMILYThe Croup Manor is known to be home to several ghouls, but that can be explained by mere chance, no? Perhaps the manor just contained a good supply of food and was attractive to several unfortunate souls hoping to find refuge in a nice pre-war mansion. This would be the case until the player explores the basement of the manor and reads the logs left by Theodore, another ghoul affected by the bombs, yet sane, unlike the rest. In these logs he describes the entire croup family being holed up in the basement, all of them turned to feral ghouls. Strange for a condition that is supposed to be "rare", no? SANCTUARY RESIDENTSAcross the Soul Survivor's journey across the Commonwealth, they may meet a pack of feral ghouls that are uniquely named as Mr. Parker, Mr. Donoghue, Mrs. Donoghue, Mr. Sumner, Mrs. Sumner, Ms. Rosa, and Mrs. Parker. If the SS chose to explore Sanctuary in the prologue of the game, they'd know that these are their former neighbors, almost all of them actually. It is indeed strange that these groups of people happened to all turn into ghouls, especially since ghoulism is supposed to only affect the lucky few. But the residents of Sanctuary and Croup Manor must have been quite lucky to all become ferals. The Peabody family must be extremely lucky then to have all been turned into normal, functioning ghouls. That is, unless, that an external force was planning on turning these people into ghouls themselves. As we all know, Vault-Tec was one of the organizations that aimed to ensure humanity's survival after potential nuclear war, though why couldn't there be any others in the Fallout universe? As we are probably very familiar with, humans can be typical of wanting the same goal with vastly different methods of acquiring those outcomes. What if there was an organization separate from Vault-Tec that purposefully hand-selected certain areas to infect its denizens with an agent that granted them resistance, and even immunity, to nuclear fallout? They could have put a strand of the FEV agent in the water supply of these homes/areas that granted the people that drank it immunity to the radiation, and an incredibly long lifespan (explaining why everyone in Croup Manor and very many people in Sanctuary became ghouls). The radiation protection was granted for obvious reasons, and the lifespan increase to ensure their lengthy survival, and to compensate for the (presumed) lack of reproductive capabilities. They were also granted the ability to live without food and water for centuries, as shown by Billy (the kid in the fridge), to even further boost their chances of survival. Hancock tells the story of when he decided to take a potent, radioactive, experimental chem which he knew would turn him into a ghoul, though how did he know he would be turned into one if ghoulism is supposedly rare? Perhaps the agent that enabled pre-war citizens to become ghouls was a strand of FEV, the forced evolutionary virus. It being evolutionary means that it was genetic, and could be passed down to it recipients' children. Perhaps Hancock somehow knew that this FEV was taken by one of his ancestors and knew that he would have the genes to turn himself into a ghoul. Furthermore, the most common FEV recipients in the Fallout Universe are the super mutants, which are particularly immune to radiation, much like ghouls. West-Tek becomes a prime suspect of having created the ghoul-causing FEV, because they conducted (taken straight from the FO wiki) "research into immunity-boosting drugs designed to combat biological weapons agents was being conducted by West Tek which lead to the creation of the PVP, and later, the FEV", and being a government-contracted company already reeks of conspiracy and permission to tamper with people's water supplies. Think I finally found a BOS chapter I dislike...(Spoiler) Posted: 02 Apr 2018 03:55 PM PDT I'm playing through New Vegas and I just made it to hidden valley to make contact with the BoS. And Jesus fucking Christ are they're assholes. I mean, maybe that's too harsh...but still. I'm a dedicated BoS fan and I always play nice with them, even Maxson who I always believed had a stick up his ass from the start. But at least he didn't strip me naked and slap a shock collar on me! Seriously, McNamara has to chill at least a little bit. No wonder Paladin Harden wants to get him off Elder status... Still going to play it nice and get them to work with the NCR, but I will do so begrudgingly. Edit: okay Hardin made me kill my favorite energy weapons merchant this is some fuck. I actually like Gloria and Simon. The bodyguard brother was a douche though. [link] [comments] |
Making a Fallout D&D, need some suggestions Posted: 03 Apr 2018 01:59 PM PDT The setting is Montana. You are either from Vault 5 or an escaped NCR soldier. Any suggestions two the story, events, dungeons, weapons, anything is welcome [link] [comments] |
