Dota 2 Asia Championships 2018

Presented by Perfect World & PGL

Sponsored by Lenovo, DXRacer, Nvidia GeForce, SteelSeries, Samsung, BLASOUL & ofo

Dota has become a life style. During the summer time, Dota 2 fans are calling for friends and focusing in Seattle, cheering for the greatest competition. While in spring, Shanghai is witnessing a grand tournament where the world's top teams compete in the Dota 2 Asia Championships.

Now the battle starts once again. The top sixteen teams all over the world gather for the DAC 2018 to compete a prize pool of $1,000,000, 1,500 Qualifying Points and the grand honor. Who will raise the mighty Radiance. Let's find out in Oriental Sports Center, Shanghai, China in spring.

In the valiant days of youth, I had brothers across all the seas
With steel in our hearts, we went for justice
A fast meeting, a life and death shared
A promise carved in gold
A canopy of constellations, wind in my steps... my arrow sings upon its crystal wings
An end every ten steps, each an infinite parting... my sword cuts the flying wind
Blade in hand, spirit in soul
With the shining thunder, I storm into the dusk
For whom do I fight?
In a feast of flickering petals amongst my peers, I seek no name
To those with whom I battle, we share a fate; will you join me next?

- "Three lifetimes in war and fate"

It happens after every game on twitch stream.

For me personally its one of the best moments of tournaments esp if there is some pro player on the panel, also this is very disrespectful for the people on Panel.

Should Io's Tether slow have its own cooldown now?

Posted: 30 Mar 2018 11:15 PM PDT

Now that Io's tether lasts forever, it interacts weirdly with the 100% slow from crossing the tether. It can only be applied once per cast of tether, regardless of how long the tether lasts, which is a weird incentive to not actually make use of the infinite tether duration, and to keep re-casting it. On the other hand, you can now easily apply the slow twice in a row by breaking the tether and re-tethering while the tether is crossing an enemy unit. Both of these behaviors seem counterintuitive to me.

Maybe instead, it should just have an internal cooldown on the slow, so every time it procs on a specific unit, it can't proc again on that unit for 12 seconds (aka the tether cooldown)? That does sort of add even more weird mechanics to Io, but I feel like it should be changed in some way. What you do think of the cooldown idea and/or what other ideas do you have?

How we made cheat detector. gosu.ai against cheaters

Posted: 31 Mar 2018 10:42 AM PDT

Hey, Reddit!

Today we will talk about how we made cheat detector.

Tl;dr: To detect cheating we extracted mouse movements and all the actions player perform on a map from replays. We define cheaters and ready to share the API with third-party developers. Right now, our anti-cheat isn't perfect, the system doesn't track all existing cheats, but we will work hard in this direction.

Try it out and check if you've played with cheaters.

At the time of writing this article we analysed approximately 200k matches that were played by about 1 million unique players. Here we share with you some stats and tell how this system works. Further we will tell you how the anti-cheat works and share some stats.

Cheats for Dota 2, are you serious?

There are a lot of them, see this review. For the beginning we have implemented algorithm that detects cheats that could be identified by tracking mouse movements and clicks in replay.

Camera hack

Having enabled this cheat, unprincipled player is able to look at the distant places on a map with less mouse clicks and movement and faster respond to events taking place outside the screen. Note that the wide monitor does not make you a cheater, because the allowed extension of the view only works in width. This is the most popular cheat, we found its use in 12.24% (sic!) of all matches. Approximately 1.1% of all players abuse this hack and 76% of them play with unacceptable zoom in each game.

The player clicks outside the standard camera view, an additional click appears. Match ID: 3754671634

We found zoomout (camera distance) in 12.24% of all matches. Unique users with cheats – 1.02%, 76% of them used zoomout in each game.

Аutomatic creep blocking

Creep blocking is an important technique that allows mid-lane player to farm effectively at the start of the game. But what if the program will instantly click for you in a right place to stop creeps without any of your attention? Obviously, this kind of automatization is unfair.

Good news, there are only 0.1% of players (one of 1000) who use this cheat in public matches, but you can meet cheater in 0.5% of matches (one of 200).

[Look at fast clicks to distant points. Match ID: 3754671634] ](https://gosuaiblog.files.wordpress.com/2018/03/uqrypuooy9.gif?w=1100)

Automatic items dropping

Quick drop and pickup of some items under certain conditions could give your hero additional bonus. For instance, dropping and picking back Arcane Boots having Soul Ring gives the hero 75 freebie mana points, but actually to do so you have to spend a time to move mouse to the inventory bar and return it to the map.

At least 0.035% (350 of one million) players make those actions automatically, without real mouse movement. This adds injustice to 0.328% of matches.

How anti-cheat works

To detect cheating we extracted mouse movements and all the actions player perform on a map from replays. To analyse player behavior we aggregate several statistics like the distance between the mouse position on a screen and the place where the player's real action was registered. Then we use machine learning technique called anomaly detection: the algorithm learns from a sample of "pure" matches (manually checked by our Dota 2 experts for the absence of cheating) and then able to detect "suspicious" deviations from the norm.

To classify cheating behavior and estimate the accuracy of our detection we asked our experts to review random "suspicious" matches manually and make a strong decision — whether there was cheating or not? Statisticians call this technique an acceptance sampling. According to our current estimates, the detector has less than 3% of false positives (situations when the system erroneously blames player for cheating).

An ideal algorithm is hard to build because of the large number of unique situations. We offer our deepest apologies if your play will fall into those erroneous 3%. If it will, let us know by sending a feedback through "This is wrong" button. As mentioned before, our algorithm learns on the labeled replays. So, the more feedback you will send — the more accurate our anti-cheat will be.

Let's collaborate

We see a big problem with cheating behavior in public games, but we are not going to wait until #valvefixit. So here's our offer to the Dota 2 community, tournament platforms and other third-party developers: we are ready to give an access to our closed API for cheat-checking. If you are interested, please contact Kirill Chuvakov k@gosu.ai.

We're going to make Dota 2 great again!

Try it out and check if you've played with cheaters.

Windranger ultimate bug

Posted: 31 Mar 2018 04:36 AM PDT

Hello, I am an avid WR player and I have noticed a bug with her ultimate ever since they allowed attacking while running. I had hoped it would get fixed, and according to the 7.12 patch notes some fixing has indeed been done, but I didn't feel any particular change, so I decided to make this post.

The bug is as follows: When you cast your ultimate on a target and then run out of range of it, you cannot return to attacking the target by simply right-clicking it. It will not recognize the movement at all. You need to run in range manually, and then press right-click attack. In fact, if you run out of range of the ulti'ed target, the game will not recognize right-click attacks against any target at all until you first make a right-click move somewhere.

This is my first Reddit post, but I was told Valve representatives keep an eye on here, so I hope something is done since at present it is extremely hard to manouver with Focus Fire activated.

Thanks

Why are the relics a gambling feature when I am already paying a monthly fee?

Posted: 30 Mar 2018 06:33 PM PDT

I initially thought that relics were random but you would just eventually get them all until I started getting duplicates. I am paying $3.99 a month, why the hell am I getting a gambling system for my relics? Why can't I just buy any relic I want for a price just like the golden ones? Why ruin the system with this stupid gambling aspect again.

I bought the 12 months* package for dota plus and I regret it now that I see this system, hopefully I can get a refund because I am tired of these gambling features.

*fixed typo

Betting on Na'Vi

Posted: 31 Mar 2018 02:36 AM PDT

I'm making a statement that if Na'Vi qualify for TI through points and not qualifiers I will order a size too small Na'Vi shirt from their store and lose weight to fit in it in time for TI.

Currently size L, 85kg (187.4 lbs), 171cm tall (5'7) so there's room to drop weight.

I will start losing in preparation since I believe in them!

What proof would you people like for me to post for this?
