I'm paralysed all the way down from my shoulder and today I beat my personal Mount Everest

High level pubs are a disaster and inherently promote ruining by any player with ambitions.

Posted: 27 Apr 2018 02:05 AM PDT

I want to point out that what I'm about to write mostly concerns the Divine 5 bracket, where most players have the (distant) goal of becoming pro. The fewest players only play for fun.

I'm top 500 in EU and the environment tilts me before the game even begins. I want you to ask yourself why ruining is so prominent in high mmr. You've seen it from pros and streamers for years and it seems to only get worse. It's not because every Dota player is a self-centered psycho, it's because the system is terrible and is slowing down your progress as well as making the whole experience random and a gigantic trigger.

Pubs have become the primary way to enter the professional scene. They also have always been the primary way to practice and improve. This makes them insanely important and mmr valuable. If the system sucks, it can potentially ruin your career. You can argue the greatest player will always find a way, I argue t2 players also have a right for exposure and to improve over time.

The way it is right now, alpha personalities have an absolute advantage. If you're willing to fuck over people, you have the biggest gain. There is no deficit in doing it. Maybe you become the victim of a witch hunt, but once you're a t1 player, teams will pick you up regardless. And they should, it's a competitive sport. Think of Noone or CCnC, the 'give me mid or I'm afk' type of players. I don't blame them at all, I admire them. In terms of following their goal of becoming the best player they're doing the right and the smart thing.

But not everyone is that type of personality. Some players have certain social values and they will try to avoid conflict. That type, however, is going to lose the fight and play core maybe 1/5 games. Why? Because the alpha types simply take the role without asking. The, I'm gonna call him the 'social type', is gonna step down and say to himself, whatever, I'll play core next game. But he probably won't, and he will have so much less practice that he will never ever catch up to people who spam their role every game. And the system doesn't protect these people at all. I'll go as far to say the system promotes ruining for your own advantage.

This means there really is only one choice. You force yourself to become the alpha type, for the sake of your own career. In a competitive environment, you would have to be stupid to put your own ethics in the way of your success. And this is basically the core of my argument of why the pub system is disastrous. Despite every viewer hating flamers, ruiners, toxic players, they are super prominent at the highest level, simply because it's beneficial. And on the contrary, they burn out the social types and turn them into cynics because the system neither rewards nor protects them in any way. If you're a nice guy, you lose. It's a fact. You can find the proof in every single high level pub.

I have thought of two solutions for this.

  1. Turn all regional Div 5 brackets into inhouse leagues. Select qualified volunteers to admin them. Establish hard rules. Highest mmr/rank has highest priority to choose his role, lowest picks last. No extreme flaming, pinging, harassing in any way. Only allow one common language. No feeding, afking. If people violate these rules, people can file a detailed report and admins punish them directly, not through the current ticket system. If people file a clowny or false report, they get punished instead.

  2. Role queue. Chill the fuck out people, I'm talking about Div 5 only. Since most people have one or two main roles they want to practice, they should be able to do so. You can select all 5 positions or only one. Don't bind heroes, lanes or items to certain roles, keep it flexible. If 1pos and 2pos want to swap lanes after the picks, they should be able to, as it is right now. If Supports want to swap roles, they should be able to. The purpose of this is simply to bring some structure into the team and not have team mates fight each other because 5 players want to play mid. If you queue with several roles selected, a random one will be selected depending on what the matchmaking can find for you in the shortest time. Create a new report offense, 'refused to play his attributed role'. Will cores have longer queue times? Yes, most likely. Is that a bad thing? I know me and my friends are willing to wait as long as 20 minutes if we were ensured to play their roles. On the contrary, this makes supporting/offlaning more rewarding. And it improves the pub experience by preventing ruining.

Please don't shoot me down simply because you disagree with what I wrote. I put a lot of time into this, I hope you can respect that. Feel free to point out mistakes in my arguments. Maybe you even agree with me, then you may reward me by upvoting this thread.

Check your RAM settings for "free FPS". Benchmarks and guide inside.

Posted: 27 Apr 2018 05:20 AM PDT

Hey folks,

TToursmuckl here with a fresh set of drama practical tip to possibly increase your FPS.

I made a bunch of benchmarks the other day and figured I share some practical takeaways for moar fps.

Numbers

I compiled the benchmark numbers here: https://imgur.com/a/fMqqb1d

Long story short: Dota 2 really likes faster RAM. All the numbers were with normalized CL latency of 5ns. Going from Single Channel to Dual Channel is a 35% increase in 1% lows on Ryzen and a 16% increase on the i7.

So, how does that help you?

If you have two identical memory sticks (commonly known as kit), double check that they are running in "Dual Channel" mode.

How to do that?

  1. Download CPU-Z: Link
  2. Check the Memory tab, it should say "Dual" in the top right corner that says "Channel #" like this.

If it says "Dual", you're all set. If it doesn't say dual but you have a kit, you do the following:

  1. Look for your manual (or check online, most if not all are on their vendors' support website)
  2. Look for a page that tells you something about the DIMM configuration. Will look like this.
  3. Insert RAM DIMMs
  4. Reboot, check back with CPU-Z. Now it should say Dual.

Okay, but what if I have that fixed already?

Double check that your RAM runs at it's advertised speeds. How to do that?

  1. Check your RAM model number online and check the advertised speeds in the "XMP/DOCP" profile. Should look like "3200 MHz Timings: 16-16-16-39" or something along those lines.
  2. Open CPU-Z again on the memory tab
  3. Check the "DRAM frequency" and multiply it by 2 (it's "Double Data" RAM after all), which in this example is 1600*2 = 3200
  4. Check the latencies, if your advertised speed is 16-16-16-39 like it is above (the XMP timings you checked!), you're all set.

So how do I fix my speed?

Now it gets a bit annoying.

  1. Reboot your machine and press whatever button you need to get into BIOS. That's nearly always F2 or DEL.
  2. Look for something that gives a hint of "XMP" or "DOCP". Might look like this or this or this, really there are a ton of ways different BIOS looks.
  3. Set it to the XMP profile and reboot
  4. Double check that timings applied in Windows with CPU-Z.

If your cpu can't handle the speed, try to update the bios, especially on ryzen. The latest updates really improved memory compatibility.

Alright, that should be it.

Enjoy ~ JJ

Edit: If you want to benchmark this yourself (or are curious about methodology), take a look into this post.

CCnC talking about some teams getting information before others: "There are players in the dota scene that know beta testers and people with inside knowledge, so some things get spread around through friend circles, like our team knew about techies getting added today."

Who the fuck changed Lifestealer's hotkeys while using Infest??

Posted: 27 Apr 2018 01:53 AM PDT

I just got fucked on my last game being so confused on the fucking hotkeys.

It was so fucking simple: R for consume/infest Q for fucking control.

Now it's some bullshit where R is consume when you're on a fucking hero but D(4th skill slot) if you're inside a fucking creep/NC and E(3rd skill slot) for control; and if you're not controlling the creep the consume hotkey is D but if you are controlling the NC/Creep it's again fucking R.

Worst of fucking all there's no way to change hotkeys during infest AFAIK, if anyone does know hit me up so I can fucking revert.

WHO THE FUCK MAKES THESE RANDOM ASS CHANGES LIKE THE TROLL CHANGE THAT NOBODY FUCKING ASKED FOR.

What is your unpopular Dota 2 opinion?

Posted: 27 Apr 2018 07:02 AM PDT

IMO late game aegis when cores are 6-slotted can be game-losing. Since you use a slot for aegis you're essentially fighting with 5 slots and do significantly less damage/die faster. I have seen many times the enemy team taking advantage of this weakness and winning the fight, such that by the time the core respawns from aegis, his team is outnumbered and he quickly dies again.
