Just witnessed one of the greatest battles in my playthrough, it was awesome

Posted: 09 Mar 2018 04:45 AM PST

Thanks to various mods, my Skyrim is filled with all kinds of wandering patrols and groups and they frequenlty engage. So today i passed by Fort Snowhawk, only to witness a real battle.

A group of powerful necromancers (with summoned skeletons and dead soldier zombies) vs imperial legion & thalmor vs stormcloaks, plus a couple of Vigilants of Stendarr who came to fight the necromancers. Plus my dog Meeko who gladly joined the fight. It was a total chaos and bloodbath. Then few legionnaires followed me inside to slaughter the rest of the necromancers.

Afterwards, surrounded by dozens of corpses, few surviving legionniers and i had a drink outside the fort and decided to spend a night there.

These are my favorite moments now, Skyrim reall feels like a place torn apart by a civil war.

Dumb discussion about Skyrim I had with my friend's GF.

Posted: 08 Mar 2018 10:45 AM PST

I was talking with my friend (I will name Marcus) about Skyrim and things from it I would love to see in future fantasy RPGs.

My friend's girlfriend (I will name Hannah) comes up with a look as if she is dying to say something.

Hannah says she dislikes games like Skyrim because it forces you to play as a white male character...

Marcus and I have a laugh and realize Hannah is being serious.

Marcus and I asked Hannah if she has ever played Skyrim from the beginning.

Hannah says she has...

We explain that you create your own character and she has to be mistaken.

Hannah says she was certain she played Skyrim from the beginning and remembered the almost beheading to Alduin's arrival. She has even played through the "Vampire dude" story.

So now we are speechless. We asked her to try to remember changing her character's appearance.

Hannah then finishes with "Oh you mean the slider things? They were too confusing so I just clicked through it and named my character Josh."

PSA: there are various sound cues for various events.

Posted: 09 Mar 2018 06:32 AM PST

I play modded skyrim, but I don't seem to have any mods that affect any sounds other than werewolf sounds, so I guess it should work in vanilla.

So anyways, there are various music pieces that will play after a completed event. They usually are quiet, so you won't hear them most of the time.

The most often sound cue you will hear is when you kill the dungeon boss. Right after combat music you should hear it.

There is also a sound cue when you arrive at some village or open town. Best noticed when you arrive to Riverwood but I guess it works for any town.

There is also seems to be a sound cue for finding a secret chest. I think it is most notable in Ustengrav, as there is a hidden chest behind a fake wall/door. Sometimes it just happens when you walk up to a end-dungeon chest.

Correct me if I'm wrong, of course, as I'm just saying what I have noticed while playing and so I can end up incorrect.

I need help with Achievements... I need to not care about them

Posted: 09 Mar 2018 08:23 AM PST

I'm currently getting back into a lvl 24 playthrough, so it isn't like I'm that far in, but I'm thinking about getting the CC Survival Mode and starting over to get the full experience.

I've been sifting through lots of threads regarding the CC version, seeing that most respond with "get the free mods instead", but I am a shameful cheevo whore and don't think I could do the mod thing and disable them.

I would be fine with the CC version if you could build campfires. Why it wasn't implemented is beyond me, but I've played too much Ark to not be able to make a simple campfire in Skyrim to save my ass from freezing to death.

So I guess my 2 questions are: Should I start over, or is lvl 24 close enough to the beginning to still get the full effect of survival mods?

And 2... does any former achievement whore here have a testimonial of kicking the need? The free vs. paid isn't the issue in my choosing; it is mainly "better options+no cheevos" vs. "no campfire+cheevos"

I have never played anything close to a "full" play through on Skyrim, so I still have a LOT of cheevos I would be missing.

SKSE through steam?

Posted: 09 Mar 2018 07:52 AM PST

I just decided to start playing on PC again (on a new pc) after only using XB1 for a little over a year, and noticed that skse was downloadable through steam. Are there any extra steps necessary after downloading it? sorry if this info is somewhere obvoius, 20 minutes of searching didn't turn up any answers for me...
