[Idea] There should be a badge counting how many curveballs and nice/great/excellent throws you have

Posted: 01 Mar 2018 06:05 AM PST

It would just be an interesting stat to see. Obviously pokemon break out of great/curveball throws all the time, so maybe it would only count the ones where the pokemon is caught. Anyone else interested in seeing this statistic?

[Idea]Increase the Rarity of Pokemon using Incense

Posted: 01 Mar 2018 09:28 AM PST

I live in a rural area, with only a couple Pokestops near me. i tend to use incense quite a bit and noticed that I don't get any decent Pokemon that spawn. it would be a good idea if they guaranteed at least 1 rare during the use of an incense.

[Discussion] The ratio of Groudon/Kyogre to Rayquaza raids has been fixed on Feb 27

Posted: 01 Mar 2018 01:24 PM PST

Since Niantic announced the competition between Weather Trio to influence egg hatches, you would expect Team Groudon/Kyogre to occupy one half of the legendary raid pool while Team Rayquaza the other. That has not been originally the case.

A small analysis from our city's raid tracker for the first three days after the announcement.

Date Legendary Boss Raid Count Percentage
2018-02-24 Kyogre 63 ~29.43%
2018-02-24 Groudon 86 ~40.18%
2018-02-24 Rayquaza 65 ~30.37%
2018-02-25 Kyogre 67 ~31.75%
2018-02-25 Groudon 73 ~34.57%
2018-02-25 Rayquaza 71 ~33.64%
2018-02-26 Kyogre 64 ~32.65%
2018-02-26 Groudon 72 ~36.73%
2018-02-26 Rayquaza 60 ~30.61%

You can see that each legendary has been given the same weight. This meant a permanent handicap to Team Rayquaza. Thankfully Niantic fixed this on 27th:

Date Legendary Boss Raid Count Percentage
2018-02-27 Kyogre 87 ~27.70%
2018-02-27 Groudon 75 ~23.88%
2018-02-27 Rayquaza 152 ~48.40%
2018-02-28 Kyogre 74 ~26.05%
2018-02-28 Groudon 69 ~24.29%
2018-02-28 Rayquaza 141 ~49.64%
2018-03-01 Kyogre 60 ~22.55%
2018-03-01 Groudon 74 ~27.81%
2018-03-01 Rayquaza 132 ~49.62%

It's my opinion that they will probably discard wins before they fixed the unfair distribution. What do you think?

Theoretical maximum profit from throwing a single pokeball

Posted: 01 Mar 2018 05:37 PM PST

Based on current game mechanics and all special events held up to this point, the most XP, Stardust and Candy a player can possibly earn from throwing a single pokeball requires this specific situation:

  • The pokeball is thrown with a curve
  • The pokemon is caught on the first throw
  • The pokemon is encountered in the wild, not a raid
  • The throw receives an Excellent throw bonus
  • This is your first time catching this pokemon species
  • The caught pokemon is a 2nd stage evolution (eg: Tyranitar)
  • The pokemon is the first pokemon caught on the seventh day of your daily streak bonus
  • The pokemon is weather boosted
  • A Pinap Berry is fed to the pokemon before the throw
  • A Lucky Egg is currently active
  • A Star Piece is currently active
  • An event is currently active that awards Double XP, Double Stardust and Double Candy for catching pokemon

Reward Breakdown:

  • Capture: 100XP
  • New Pokemon: 500XP
  • Curveball: 10XP
  • Excellent Throw: 100XP
  • First Throw: 50XP
  • Streak Bonus: 2000XP

  • Double XP Event: x2 XP

  • Lucky Egg: x2 XP

  • 2nd Stage Evolution Catch: 500 Stardust

  • Streak Bonus: 2400 Stardust

  • Double Stardust Event: x2 Stardust

  • Weather Bonus: x1.25 Stardust (Catch Stardust Only)

  • Star Piece: x1.5 Stardust

  • 2nd Stage Evolution Catch: 10 Candies

  • Double Candy Event: x2 Candy

  • Pinap Berry: x2 Candy

Total Rewards:

  • 11040 XP
  • 9075 Stardust
  • 40 Candies

Not bad for throwing a single pokeball.

MRW I hear that a severe snowstorm is headed to my area

[Complaint] 20 nanab berries as a reward for hitting level 39? Are you serious Niantic?

Posted: 01 Mar 2018 04:42 AM PST

For how much work was involved to grind to 39, the rewards are insulting. Potions, revives... and NANABS. What? No lucky egg, no incubator, nothing useful at all.

What's the incentive to get the 3 million XP to go from 38 to 39 then? We already can power Pokémon to 40. Nothing about the game gameplay changes. And the rewards are utter trash

Where can you find trapinch?

Posted: 01 Mar 2018 11:56 AM PST

Trapinch is one of my favorite Pokémon and I haven't seen a single one, or it's evolutions. Only today did I see a flygon in a gym for the first time. Where are they usually found? Is my best bet an egg if I haven't found one already?

Pikachu Catch Rate Theory [Discussion]

Posted: 01 Mar 2018 06:01 PM PST

It hasn't changed. The increased spawn rate just made people realize it's only 20%. Coupled with the fact people generally downgrade the equipment they use to catch it with after their first few event pokemon made it frustrating in comparison to mons like pidgey and snubull with catch rates like .5 and .4 respectively.
