How good is Dark Willow pos 5?

Posted: 09 Mar 2018 03:13 PM PST

I haven't played a single dark willow game but she's looking sexy and strong with her annoying spells.

It's a good deny pick to offlane dark willow which I don't like whether it's a teammate or not.

I'm currently reading and watching guides. Her spells are super good with tons of disables.

I want to add her to the list of heroes I can play

  1. Clockwerk

  2. Dark Willow (pending)

How to play actual games as a new player

Posted: 09 Mar 2018 05:30 PM PST

Basically just want to play games where people have actual roles/positions(1-5) in games. I only have 100 hours of play time so I'm obviously brand new as well, but when playing unranked its just everyone picking carries and doing there own thing for the full game. No one tries to work together, fighting over CS in the safe lane, no warding, not pushing together, fighting 1 vs multiple etc.

I've been watching Dota for about a year now but I've recently started playing games again and actually want to put time into learning/improving. Right now it doesn't actually feel like I'm "playing" the game of Dota. Is this just how it is in the beginning and should I just enjoy being able to fuck around and play any random hero I feel is cool without consequence, or is there any way or game mode that will actually feel like people are playing together/properly.

Thanks in advance.

How to deal with core Kunkka's tidebringer?

Posted: 09 Mar 2018 09:41 AM PST

The AOE is so big, it has such a short cooldown, and it does so much damage with crit. I know he's squishier than other cores at the start, but you can't really get close to him without losing 9/10 of your HP to his cleave. Is it just a case of farm faster than him and gank early or he'll ruin you with crits from a million miles away?

I'm still pretty new to this. I think I can play against most heroes fairly well, but I really struggle against Kunkka. Anyone have any tips or suggestions? (Assuming he wasn't ganked early or anything, is it possible to catch up on a Kunkka that got ahead in farm?)

Mid laning with Mirana?

Posted: 09 Mar 2018 08:30 PM PST

I used to be really nice at Mirana mid lane but out of nowhere I've become terrible and I was wondering if anyone could help me out with some general advice.

For example, How should I go about farming with Mirana? Also, how should I go about harassing the enemy?

I literally just played against a shadow fiend mid lane and it went extremely bad. SF was just great at out-lasthitting me and I couldn't harass him without getting even more damage dealt back on myself.

I'm still slightly new to dota so.. any advice for anything is appreciated.

How do you counter Bristleback?

Posted: 09 Mar 2018 08:26 PM PST

I'm legend 2 and it feels like I'm against a Bristleback despite the consensus in pro play being him being garbage, so I'm guessing he's kind of a pub stomper atm, but as a pos 5 player I have no idea what to do or what to tell my teammates to do to counter him, I try to stun him and he just turns his back and I'm not allowed to continue damaging him until I loop around to his front and he just turns around again, even if we 5 man him his passive just goes insane and kills us all, is there anything besides silver edge to easily counter him?

Supporting low MMR Offlane vs. Safelane

Posted: 09 Mar 2018 01:27 PM PST

So I'm just getting back into the game from a 3 year hiatus. I was never a great player even at the best of times, and I'm reading back through everything now to try and up my game but just wanted to poll folks about how to play offlane Support in low tier MMR.

As you all no doubt know at low MMR we aren't talking pro tactics or meta or anything, it's just random pubs doing random pub things. I'm less concerned about winning and more concerned about learning the game and my role. So, specifically, if my team ends up with me and one other support (and right now I'm focusing solely on support), and the other support goes to safelane, how can I best be an asset to my offlaner?

Couple notes:

  • I've read lots of general tips for supports so I understand some of the basics of pulling, harassing, warding, occasional ganking if you can. I feel like I have a good understanding of those for supporting the safe lane, but I don't really understand how much of that is applicable to offlane support.
  • Additionally, I'm looking for advice on where I am now, not how to rise to 4k or what to do at higher MMR. I'm not saying that advice is useless or that it isn't applicable at low level, but telling me to change the way my team plays around me is impossible right now so don't bother. Unless it is applicable to working on my basics right no, I will get there eventually. I'm watching the Purge/Day9 series (still only on lesson 2) and they are super helpful but I feel like even some of that info isn't applicable yet.
  • I've been playing Ogre Magi for a few games just to remember the mechanics, thinking of mixing it up with Lich and maybe Lina too. Feel free to throw me some suggestions too if you feel like it

TL;DR - Should I have skipped Battlefury? Should I have gone Manta instead of SnY? Should I have skipped the Diffusal for something else?

So I started out at bottom lane with Lion and I was up against Necro and KotL. It was a messy laning phase and I missed a lot of last hits due to all the fighting. However, we managed to kill Necro multiple times and even killed KotL once. Also, the constant Illuminate spamming of KotL let me get a decent amount of denies.

Anyway, thanks to the good laning phase, I decided that it would be a good game for a Battlefury as usual. Afterwards, I was deciding between a Manta or SnY. On one hand, Manta would have good synergy with my eventual Diffusal purchase and would dispel Mana Leak. On the other hand, aside from the Mana Leak, there wasn't really much else I could dispel. As such, I opted for the SnY instead for the better stats.

Next, I went for the Diffusal for burning the Wraith King's mana and also for mid-game stats. I recognized that our team had a pretty strong late game and that we really only needed to survive the mid-game against their team.

The mana burn actually felt pretty underwhelming since the Wraith King got to Lv. 20 pretty quickly anyway, but the stats the Diffusal provided was pretty good still. Would a Linken's Sphere have been better here? I will note that being able to pop Invoker's Linken's Sphere with the Diffusal active to give way for the Nullifier active was nice.

Afterwards, I went for Nullifier to deal with the Ghost Shroud, Force Staves, Glimmer Capes, and just general chasing. I followed it up with a Blink Dagger to compliment the Nullifier and also because our team was really good at kiting and Wraith King is really weak to that kind of play style.

I considered BKB over the Nullifier pick-up due to the high amount of magic damage and control that the enemy had but opted for the Nullifier since the BKB wasn't really conducive to the weaving in and out that our team was doing. If I needed defensive magic immunity, I had Bladefury for that.

The Abyssal and the Hyperstone were just item purchases after the match was practically over.

Guide request/suggestion: What to do before 0:00

Posted: 08 Mar 2018 11:00 PM PST

There's a million hero, laning, mechanic, support, carry, mid, offlane, build and item guides out there, but I feel like your average pub player lacks knowledge in this area.

Points you could cover:

  • Warding

  • Level 1 smokes

  • Level 1 strength

  • Getting as many bounty runes as possible with least risk

  • Blocking creeps (+tanking range creep)

  • Blocking camps

  • First blood opportunities

  • Forcing enemies to use regen

  • Setting up your lane matchups

Low rating WK and item Questions

Posted: 09 Mar 2018 12:44 PM PST

Wondering about item builds on WK. And if you don't mind going in depth on responses it'd be appreciated. I've just started and am only around 2k mmr so there is a lot I don't understand yet.

I've established in my previous questions that Echo Sabre is good but I'm still unsure if its worth it over other items. I love this item, but it feels weak, there has to be something I'm missing here.

Further questions would be, is it always necessary to get a blink dagger and at what time / priority is it?

Is Desolator Required (on WK)? Aren't there more damaging items you could use especially when your safe lane?

And a more general sense, what use are low stat items like Drums, Ring of Aquila, Urn (and Echo Sabre since its much lower than real late game items) useful for? Seems almost like it'd be better on most characters to go for bigger items specially once you run out of uses on items like the drum ect.

a hard support(pos5) concern

Posted: 09 Mar 2018 10:36 AM PST

Hello i love playing dota 2 and i love playing pos 5 support in it,i got to 4.3k mm and i started from 2.4k like one year ago recently i dropped to 3.4k and i had even like 10 loss strike one time. i am questioning everything now but i don't want to switch my role and believe me i'm not a bad pos 5,in my lane 9 times out of 10 i perform well in controlling the equilibrium, harassing offlaner, stacking ,pulling, chain pulling, responding to other lanes being ganked and providing vision. i play every classic support and sometimes the new meta shifted supports. how can i change this mess now? Do i have to change my role? Don't want to blame my teammates in these losses so not gonna go over feedings and wrong calls and ... else but i think there is a secret element that makes me matched up with these teammates,i'm a positive guy at least in the game i have more commends than my win games count so you can tell i'm not bad in that perspective so why? my win rate 51.18% Help me if you had same problem and you managed to get through it https://www.dotabuff.com/players/217579181

Treads or Phase?

Posted: 09 Mar 2018 12:45 AM PST

Ok so I only understand what the items tell me:

  • With treads you can have a lot more AS, you can switch when needed which is great but you are slow as an old man. Might be good if you wanna right click more, have a low mana pool, etc

  • Phase, the ninja boots (you are definitely fast and get you out of the no traffic creep jam; more damage better crit)

I know it depends on the game and heroes, but what will affect your shopping decision?

Camera controls for micro intensive heroes

Posted: 08 Mar 2018 08:52 PM PST

Hey guys. I watched professional lone druid games and I saw people control the bear like another hero. Swapping camera between the druid and the bear and so on repeatedly. How do you set up your camera controls like that? and I'm curious what camera settings you guys use. Personally I've set show recent event(or sth like that) to "T" but it dosen't get the job done properly imo
