| Breakdown of Mobility and Sprint Speed PRE-1.1.4 Patch Posted: 26 Mar 2018 06:16 AM PDT Yo, yo, yo, it's ya boy Crystic back with yet another hot science discussion about the effects that mobility has and sprint speed. You may have seen my previous thread I made posting raw numbers and the like. In light of Bungie getting ready to update the sandbox specifically targeting mobility in their "go fast" update, I decided to go back and update my old thread as I now have all exotics. This will give us a baseline for what exactly Bungie changes. This thread will be more of a result/conclusion based thread rather than a info dump like the last one. Methodology If any of you reading this have read my previous post, you may already know my methodology for testing. However, due to limitations on those procedures I modified how I do things to get more accurate results. Previously I used D.A.R.C.I. to estimate distance in the beginning of the raid. That part hasn't changed, but if you've read my post you'll recall that DARCI does not report decimal values, which threw off my numbers quite a bit. What I've done is set my control to distance instead. This way I can inch very close to integer values and just have the time be variable instead. This has produced much more accurate results and I feel confidant in these numbers way more than my previous ones. In layman's terms, I now run towards the cabal instead of away from it and time how long it takes to get there. Sprint Speed
*After Dodging, and only for 10 seconds. As you can see the results are much more clean. There is still a cap on sprint speed bonuses, and that is 13%. Everything that says it increases sprint speed does so by 6.5%, with the exception of the MIDA Multi-tool, which increases it by 10%. Interesting thing to note is that the St0mp-EE5 as well as the Dragon Shadow exotic do not stack with either Focused Breathing or Keen Scout. This is pretty disappointing, and I'm positive it must be a bug of some kind. I postulate that the code that increases sprint speed for Keen Scout/Focused Breathing is the same as the code used for those Exotics. Walking Speed Let me preface this like last time by saying you walk forward faster than you strafe. I also did mobility 0-10 this time, to show all values before the update. And also, these numbers are an order of magnitude increase in precision over the previous ones as my testing method is more precise. However, it also means that there is a greater chance of error. I'd like to think that I kept it to a minimum, but I am only human. So there may be a ±0.05m deviation from what the values actually are. All numbers are in m/s.
*only when MIDA Multi-tool is stowed You can see from this that certain builds increasing mobility will have no effect as it is capped at a certain value. For example using the MIDA Multi-tool with 10 mobility will be just the same as using 8 mobility. However this doesn't mean it is useless. You still gain jump height and you will still benefit from the increased mobility for your other weapon if it doesn't have lightweight. ADS Forward Speed So my previous post illustrated that all ADS speeds were that same speeds with a 25% reduction in movement. To save myself some time and sanity I skipped ADS testing. I of course tested to make sure this was still the case, even after my methodology change, and it is. If you would like to find out a specific value just multiply the value you want from above by 0.75. Strafe Speed
*only when MIDA Multi-tool is stowed Like last time, it appears there is a strafe speed cap at 5.5 m/s. You can hit it by going all the way to mobility 10. However, you can hit that same cap by using a lightweight weapon (or MIDA Multi-tool) at mobility 8. In fact, a lightweight weapon and the MIDA Multi-tool function exactly the same when strafing. With the MIDA mini-tool you can get maximum strafe speed with only mobility 6. Of course this is only when you have the mini Interesting thing to note here is that for base values of moving forward speed, the strafe speed seems to have a 15% penalty. This changes however when using a movement boosting weapon, it gets larger. I believe that these movement boosting weapons give a bonus to moving forward speed. When strafing they seem to only give +2 mobility, but when moving forward the increase is much more, and this effect is more powerful the lower your mobility is. Take for example mobility 0, your strafe speed is at 4.22 and with a lightweight weapon it becomes 4.39, which is roughly the same as 2 mobility. However moving forward your speed is 5.0 and with a lightweight weapon it becomes 5.51, which is roughly 5 mobility. What I found was that this strange increase was almost exactly the boost you get to sprint speed. Using the previous example with 0 mobility we should expect to see moving forward speed to be 5.2 with a lightweight weapon because that is mobility 2's speed, but instead we get 5.51. If we take 5.2 and multiply it by the 6.5% increase that lightweight adds to sprint speed, we get ~5.54 which is within the margin of error. This effect holds for pretty much all values. So after finding this out I went and tested if I can get a similar effect with armor or perks that increase sprint speed. Unfortunately, I could not get the effect to work with exotic armor or perks so it seems to be relegated to lightweight and the MIDA only. ADS Strafe Speed Same deal as before, if you want to know a specific value, just multiply it by 0.75. Exotics MIDA Multi-tool

| Posted: 26 Mar 2018 06:41 AM PDT I don't see much talk about these but this was a huge part of what I enjoyed about d1. I suppose the rat king kind of fits that roll but no one is ever asking for help on that. I miss scanning lfg sites doing spindle runs, putting outbreak codes in, helping out on a difficult story mission, darkblade swords. Plenty of others. I know d2 is new but the base game and dlc kind of lack this. Actually credit acrius also. That was a good one but required the raid so if you got that chances are you had the help lined up to do arms dealer. Tl:dr i dont see much talk about this topic and I hope that some of these missions are coming because I like helping randoms and that is missing right now. | Why do people just stare at you like buffoons when you drop a Ward of Dawn? Posted: 26 Mar 2018 06:41 AM PDT Can't say I would've made the same play, personally. There doesn't appear to be any upsides to getting slamma jammed into oblivion by a Crown Splitter, but maybe they know something I don't know. | Posted: 26 Mar 2018 12:31 PM PDT But you're going to see hot takes flying out of everyone's ass tomorrow 30 seconds after the patch drops. Take them all with a huge grain of salt. The people most eager to shout shit out as fast as possible are the least reliable of the bunch. Play the damn thing for yourself and make up your own mind. Try to separate your emotions and excitement from your actual experience and offer up sound, meaningful feedback for Bungie to work off of, rather than hysterical praise or outrage. I know it's asking a lot. I mostly bring it up because the early feedback on D2 was so positive by most people here (you'd get downvoted to hell and back for suggesting anything was wrong) just due to sheer excitement, and that certainly set back the process of getting all this shit fixed more quickly. Let's try not to repeat the same mistakes. | Focused Feedback: Bungie Turnaround: Response time Re: Bugs / Fixes & Time between Patches / Updates Posted: 26 Mar 2018 05:11 AM PDT Hello Guardians, Focused Feedback is where we take the week to focus on a 'Hot Topic' discussed extensively around the Tower. We do this in order to consolidate Feedback, to get out all your ideas and issues surrounding the topic in one place for discussion and a source of feedback to the Vanguard. This Thread will be active until next week when a new topic is chosen for discussion Whilst Focused Feedback is active, ALL posts regarding 'Bungie Turnaround: Response time Re: Bugs / Fixes & Time between Patches / Updates' following its posting will be removed and re-directed to this thread Any and all Feedback on the topic is welcome. Regular Sub rules apply so please try to keep the conversation on the topic of the thread and keep it civil between contrasting ideas A Wiki page - Focused Feedback - has also been created for the Sub as an archive for these topics going forward so they can be looked at by whoever may be interested or just a way to look through previous hot topics of the Sub as time goes on. | Fixed rolls broke the core gameplay loop Posted: 26 Mar 2018 09:43 AM PDT There's been a lot of discussion about fixed rolls vs. random rolls since D2 launched. And I'll acknowledge straight up front that this view is not universal - some folks truly do prefer fixed rolls to random rolls. A lot of those people refer to the chase for a god roll as an "artificial grind". The other thing this post won't cover is the fact that due to perk neutering and reducing the number of perks per weapon, loot in D2 is legitimately just more boring than D1. But that's a separate problem - I want to explain a little more in depth why fixed rolls don't work in Destiny. At its core, Destiny is a "looter shooter". The core gameplay loop revolves around doing activities to get the rewards from those activities. Loot can do one of two things - it can raise your power level or the loot itself can be rewarding. We have theoretically the same system in D2. But the difference is that in D1, the drop itself created an emotional moment of anticipation. You saw an Eyasluna drop in your Crucible post game screen and you held your breath while you checked the perks. You got a 1,000 Yard Stare and you wanted to check the perks ASAP. In other words, there was a moment of tension that created an emotional payoff when loot dropped. Loot could be rewarding (even though I will admit that due to the number of worthless perks most of the time it wasn't) because of the possibility that an activity would drop loot you were interested in. So without the possibility that the loot itself will be interesting, the only possibility loot has to provide an actual reward to us for an increase in power level. And the problem with a power level chase is those drops are only really associated with Milestones in D2. In other words, I don't care about a single drop I get from Heroic strikes. I only care about completing the Heroic strike milestone so I can go get the high level piece of gear. In D2 we don't have any reason to be interested or excited with an individual loot drop. We already know everything in the loot pool. There's no reason for me care when a Solemn Hymn drops because I've already got one, and don't care about the one I have. There is no possible way for the game to reward me with a loot pool that contains Solemn Hymn. I truly care absolutely zero about seeing a purple icon on a post activity reward. That is just an absolutely fundamental breaking of a key piece of what made D1 interesting. That's what made "2 tokens and a blue" such a meme here. They called it the "most rewarding" public event yet. The real problem isn't that the Mercury public event wasn't rewarding enough in terms of drop quantity. The problem is that it is incapable of being emotionally rewarding. The minute we know what's in the Mercury loot pool, we have already had our reaction to every single future loot drop we'll get from any activity on Mercury. So in order to get an emotional payoff for a loot drop, there's only really 3 options 1) random rolls associated with each drop 2) an enormous (like hundreds and hundreds) of fixed roll weapon, or 3) a crazy low drop rate on the good guns. I don't think they have the design or development time to go with #2, and based on everything they've done with Exotic drop rates, I don't think they have a desire to go with #3. TL;DR: Fixed rolls don't just remove the potential of even an artificial grind to chase, the remove the potential for loot drops to be interesting and rewarding [link] [comments] | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Just a comment about all the threads about "Destiny 1 still being there" Posted: 26 Mar 2018 07:05 AM PDT I don't wanna mess with people's excitement about a game, but hearing this hurts. It hurts a lot, and each time I read something like that something inside me feels a bit down. Not because Destiny 2 is a worse game than Destiny 1, not because Destiny 2 has been my introduction to the Destiny world, not because all that stuff. It's cause it ain't on PC. :( [link] [comments] | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| This will be the first major "Sandbox Update" since the launch of Destiny 2 (released 6 months ago). Posted: 25 Mar 2018 03:37 PM PDT Just over 6 months ago this game was released... Just a reminder, this is the sequel built on a superior engine with some AAA manpower in the industry to put out a lengthy, grueling and overall untimely update that should have happened in the first 3 months of feedback. I don't see why it should take 6 months to analyze data to take the corrective measure to keep this community engaged. Someone on this subreddit made one of the realest comments I've ever read about Bungie's track record; A human can develop faster than this game. That being said, realizing things like "we want optimal time to kill to be universally on par with precision frame auto rifles" should have been realized within the first month of Uriel's dominating the crucible. This number's game could have been achieved just as easily and whimsically as they like to nerf things for no apparent reason: dial some numbers, adjust some hidden values and bam, faster TTK in crucible for the November/December update and more data to analyze for this upcoming spring update, but alas, we got grenade damage adjustments and a quality of life buff for lucky pants in the last sandbox update. That's very much it. There's no excuse for that kind of nonsense, except for maybe working in a studio that favors "vacation time" over putting in the grueling hours to satisfy their consumers. We all know it, during the taken king drought, holidays at bungie took priority over hotfixes or developer updates. Anyway, this being the 1st impactful sandbox update we should expect another one for the fall expansion. That makes a whopping TWO sandbox updates in an entire year. I think the baby is learning to crawl at that point.

| Changing element on Linear Fusions changes the sound Posted: 26 Mar 2018 09:51 AM PDT Tried to solo the nightfall last night, midway through I changed the element on my Man 'o War from solar to void as I realized the wizards had void shields, and the charging/firing sound changed! Solar was sort of a noisy-gear-wind-up sound where void was smoother like Telesto. I didn't try Arc, but probably will later. I'm guessing this is true for regular fusion rifles too. Maybe this is common knowledge, I use fusions a lot but tend to not change elements so it took me this long to figure it out. Has anyone noticed any other weapons that change sounds with element? | A light in the dark (bungie forums) Posted: 25 Mar 2018 05:33 PM PDT So last night while indulging in to much of the Devils lettuce I found myself in the cess pool formerly known as bungie.net I know. Shanga wtf were you doing there?! To be honest, I have no idea. But in the midst of hating myself I found an LFG post looking for one more for a prestige nightfal run. It was over 30 minutes old but was still constantly being bumped so I looked a bit further. One of the two guardians was deaf and they couldn't find a third to save their lives. Game on. In the middle of setting this up I found out from the brother that this would be his first prestige nightfall run, ever. On our first run we got 95k and I don't think my inbox has ever been spammed so hard in my life. Screw it I say. Let's get another run and go for 100k! And this is that run! To chain our supers we had the deaf hunter drop the mic before he was going to tether. We were going to use in game text but that slowed us down a bit during the first run. I know this video isn't special. But waking up to over 20 messages and a screen shot of the two of them with their auras at the tower literally made my weekend! https://instagram.com/p/BgwmGoMFiLW/ Edit: For those wondering. We ran arc / 2.5x multiplier with a warlock / titan / hunter. | Posted: 26 Mar 2018 05:23 AM PDT Not everyone bought the season pass when they bought the game so a bunch of people like me are missing the first DLC. But without DLC I honestly see no real point in returning now, even though some of the proposed changes sound interesting. So, might I suggest you put your DLC and season pass on sale to attract people to try out your recent changes? As far as I know they haven't been on sale yet and Easter weekend is coming, so think about it. | TIL all classes have a built in stat bar for their primary stat. Posted: 26 Mar 2018 11:09 AM PDT Didn't realize until now that every class already has a built in stat bar for thier main stat. Titans for example always have 1 resliance built in, it's not counted in the overall stat bar but it's still there. If you look at the resliance bar on a Titan, there's a smaller bar just beneath it that signifies 1 built in resliance. Warlocks have the small bar in the recovery stat and hunters have it in mobility. I've been running 10 recovery on my warlock all this time not knowing I've had 1 built in. Since the stat still caps at 10, it was a waste not just running it at 9. | I've decided to adopt a couple of Kindergaurdians. Posted: 26 Mar 2018 06:55 AM PDT I think we all feel a bit let down by Destiny 2. I know I don't get the same feeling of excitement and wonder, just running around in D2 all day like I did with D1. So I've decided it's time to go back. I have a couple of friends who were interested in Destiny, but never got around to playing it. Having put a few hours into both games I made an offer. Basically, We're going to start from scratch. All three of us are picking up the complete D1 experience on Xbox (I played D1 on PS4). I'm going to do my best to help them along, but mostly I just want them to get lost like I did. If I can't get that experience right now, but I can help someone else get it, then that's just going to have to be good enough. So I encourage you all to start your own adopt a kindergaurdian program. This game can feel like magic again. I promise. I'll try to post updates when I can, though I don't think we'll be starting until after Easter. Until then: Eyes up Guardians. We can't just have constant salt, nor can we just have constant hype. We should be fine with being hyped if it is something hype-worthy. I believe if we don't allow ourselves to get hyped or have fun we will always be in a constant state of dissapointment. | Kill variety made D1 Crucible special Posted: 25 Mar 2018 11:57 PM PDT Still beating this dead horse but Bungie seem to have thick skulls or no tongue in their collective heads so I'll continue... +THIS RIGHT HERE+ ...is exactly 27 seconds of D1 gameplay, and in that time I manage to get a primary kill, a melee kill, a sniper kill and a super kill. I'm by no means a great player but this was a fun little clip and nothing in my D2 footage comes close to this kind of kill variety D2 Crucible consists of shoot primary... hide, shoot second primary, get a team shot kill, hide.... and get bumped off Heavy when it spawns... Guess which one I'd rather play Bungie?? It's not hard [link] [comments] |
