Broomstick League Preview: Arena Mode Posted: 02 Mar 2018 02:39 PM PST With the upcoming Broomstick League update on March 7th, we've decided to make the high-flying sports action available in two different ways. While you can unlock and build all the necessary items and structures in the game's main sandbox – which is something we'll talk about more soon – the update also provides you with a system of completely structured match play through Arena Mode. How to Play After the update drops, simply head to one of the three starter towns to begin an Arena Mode game. Each starter town will now have a set of spiffy Broomstick League portals, all of which link up to the same arena. Simply hop through one of the portals to initiate a match! A message will be broadcast to the server, inviting them to join you in an Arena Mode game.Match Structure Once you've entered Arena Mode the game takes care of everything! Teams will be automatically partied and organized into both Red and Blue teams. After a countdown timer allowing others a chance to jump in, the game will begin. Each round starts with a three second timer, after which players will be free to either retreat to defensive positions or rush to grab the ball in the center of the arena. When holding the ball, players can use left click to shoot and right click to pass another teammate. By holding left click, shots can be charged up for increased speed and distance. A shot in the opposing team's main net scores a point, while dunking into the smaller horizontal net scores a cool two points. Games last the duration of a five minute timer, with brief pauses between goals. Spells & Items Additionally, all joining players will automatically be equipped with the necessary equipment, including a special Broomstick League wand, a set of Broomstick League spells, and a Broomstick League athletics broom. All flight is free during Arena Mode play, allowing unlimited aerobatic capability! The new Broomstick League spells (which can only be accessed via Arena Mode) enhance your mobility and provide you with a means of offensive play. Blink, which binds to your right click, launches you forward quickly. It's ideal for those intense, clutch moments where you need to race in to grab the ball or make a hasty retreat back to cover your net. Just be careful with how you cast it: cast it too liberally and you may find yourself stuck in cooldown when you need it most! Arena contenders will also receive Mana Blast, which binds to the left mouse button. This offensive spell can be used to deflect an incoming ball or bash it out of the hands of an opposing aviator. Like Blink, Mana Blast has a bit of a cooldown, so try to exercise control and time your shots right! As mentioned above, we also provide you with all the necessary tools to build your own arena and host informal matches in the main sandbox world! Stay tuned for more details on that as we move closer to our March 7th release date. |
