I feel like the proper class fantasy for a Marksman Hunter would be a crit-based spec

Right? Hit the sweet spot. Aim for the head. Precision damage. Crits seem like the definition of these ideas.

Obligatory request to please bring back Kill Shot, too.

They REALLY need to make the effects of the Inky Black Potion an option in Interface.

[Web Tool] Wipefest: Introducing Focuses

Wipefest: Introducing Focuses

For almost a year now, I've been developing a web tool called Wipefest that aims to make it easy to analyze your logs.

One of the first pieces of feedback for Wipefest was:

"This is great for a raid overview, but what if I want to focus on a particular player?"

Well.. I'm happy to say that this is now possible!

All of the technology is there, but I'm going to need some help adding all of the specializations. I'll talk about how interested people can contribute, but first, lets see what the new feature looks like.

When viewing a fight, the right-hand raid menu will now display a checkbox next to players that can be focused on.

Raid

Checking the boxes will reload the fight, this time also providing specific events for the focused players. Which events are loaded can be seen in the left-hand filter menu.

Filters

As well as providing specialization-specific events, healthstone, potion, and trinket events are also shown for the focused players. Boss events with the "player" tag will also be filtered to only show events where the player is the source or target. The result is a finer view of the fight from certain players' perspectives.

Timeline

While focusing on a couple of Holy Priests might not be too exciting, when more specializations are implemented, the ability to zone in to see what your tanks are doing, or find out when a high-ranking DPS uses their major cooldowns, will provide a lot of helpful information that previously wasn't easily available.

So, how can we add more specializations?

All of the events in timelines are driven by configuration defined in the Wipefest.EventConfigs GitHub repository. Here's a snippet from the Holy Priest configuration file:

Config

In English, this would read:

The ability event "Divine Hymn" happens when a cast event has an ability id of 64843.

The Warcraft Logs query that this event config generates is:

type = 'cast' and ability.id = 64843

Warcraft Logs then returns these events.

Wipefest adds these events to its timeline and makes them filterable under the name Divine Hymn, under the heading priest and subheading holy.

It's very easy to add new events - the difficult part is knowing which events to add, and which ones should be shown by default.

I've added documentation to the EventConfigs repository to help people get started:

If you're interested in providing the event configuration for a new specialization, then jump on our Discord server and let me know.

Here are the specializations that have already been configured:

  • Holy Priest
  • All Death Knight specs
  • Brewmaster Monk
  • All Warrior specs
  • Havoc Demon Hunter

And these are in progress:

  • Vengeance Demon Hunter
  • Restoration Druid
  • All Rogue specs
  • Shadow Priest

Together, we can build an awesome tool for the raiding community!

Good luck, have fun!
