If the Horde gets the wrong side of the stick this time I'm gonna lose my shit. Posted: 16 Feb 2018 08:19 AM PST So, since seeing Grommash sacrificed himself in WCIII I've been a Horde fan. I've played as both factions, but I still see myself as one of horde. Faction leaders weren't that much influential in classic and BC, you would get a quest here and there but they weren't as meaningful in the grand scheme of things. I believe we first saw the faction leaders' influence and their interaction with each other on Wrath Gate and Argent Tournament grounds. It was fun but it wasn't meaningful to the stories progression. Then came Cataclysm Horde lost two great leaders in that expansion one ascending as Jesus the other getting poisoned by a racist. We've got some quests fleshing out Garrosh as warchief and it was fine. He was a brutal leader but honorable in his actions, I believed he was an OK warchief but his hunger for power was a bit worrying. Then came the MoP and boy was that a ride. I've loved the conflict in Krasarang Wilds, Wrathion pulling the strings from behind the scenes. Then our mighty warchief in his power trips used the heart of a fuckin' old god. I'm not gonna say some of his actions were justified or not, but I wanted to kill him so bad to clear the name of the horde. And we did. Sort of. Fuck WoD. Dear mr. Jesus that was my kill btw fuck you. At the start of Legion we lost in my opinion the best warchief in the history of the horde. Vol'Jin was the warchief i could get behind. He was a worthy warrior aswell as a cunning mind. I still get goosebumps when i watch him say "I am not worthy, but i'll give it my all. FOR THE HORDE." anyway then he died by a mere stabby fuckin boi. I believe I speak for all the true horde fans out there Voljin's death was the worst. Then we get a whole expansion of "break their ranks, show them no mercy". Sylvanas is one angry banshee, she is a powerful ally when things suits her interests. Her motives are not clear. And she uses us, the mighty horde, to never going back to the shadow realm. She is a self centric and egotistical bitch. WTF she was doing with Helya, those Valkyrs. And now the azurite. Burning of Teldrassil etc. These mass murder orders by Horde leaders are getting out of hand. I dont want to nuke/burn Alliance people, I want to fight them on equal terms as honor dictates. If my faction and PC gets to be a fuckin aggressor again and our actions are not justified in any way, I'll seriously lose my shit get very angry and delete the game before reinstalling it after 2 months. TLDR: I dont want to be an aggressor in the conflict between the Alliance and the Horde. I'm down with honorable fights on battlegrounds But I dont want to be the guy that nukes cities or burn giant trees. thanks for listening. PS: Not a native speaker obviously, mind the spelling mistakes etc. Edit: so many comments telling me "thats what you get choosing horde/bad guys" Keep in mind that I chose horde because I was fresh outta WCIII and starting wow, their story was appealing and reasonable, they were the underdogs and had a good redemption arc going on. None of this bullshit mana bomb to Theramore stuff has happened at the time. I chose the faction with some personality so fight me! Anyway I want the horde that Thrall built back, thats all. Posted: 16 Feb 2018 07:35 AM PST Like seriously? Please excuse my french, but the Defender of the Broken Isles quests are so horseshit. You do so much freaking work, and get literally NOTHING. 75 rep???? Are you joking me? I had to clear out a bunch of demons outside of Thunder Totem, go into thunder totem and rally them, defeat demons, go outside and default some flying demon boss, then go into a separate 15 minute scenario to destroy the ship, kill the boss, and escape.... For this, I am awarded.... 75 rep... ?????? I remember in previous xpacs, we got like 250 rep per daily. We even had tabards we could wear, or champion a faction like in Mists and do dungeons/heroics to get that rep. But now, we spend 35 minutes fighting back an invasion..... for 75 rep. Oh how far we have fallen. [link] [comments]

Posted: 16 Feb 2018 02:05 AM PST Hello! My name is Happypanda. I play on Area-52 US. Some of you may know me and some of you may not , if you do then hi If not then hi nice to meet you. 7 months ago I started what I call my "Listening Group " it's a small group in the custom section of premades dungeons and raids. The purpose of my group is that if you are feeling sad or lonely or if you just need someone to talk to then you may whisper me or join the party and we can talk things out. Over the corse of my 7 months of doing this I've had roughly 60-65 people come talk about what's bugging them. I'm very greatful and thankful that all these people came to me and opened up when they needed it. I'm also greatful for the hundreds of whispers of support I've received over the course of these 7 months, so if you did ever whisper me I just wanna say thanks! I'm posting here on reddit to let you all know that I have also started doing my Listening Group on an alliance character on the realm Stormrage in an effort to reach more people. My character's name on stormrage is "Imlistening ", so you are ever in need of someone to open up to then please don't hesitate to find me on either my horde or alliance characters. Thank you. Have a nice day/night (: [link] [comments]

REMEMBER THE BOAR GUY?! He's 56 now and on the last stretch! Posted: 16 Feb 2018 01:00 PM PST Hey guys! You probably know the drill by now, Ian's almost made it. If you don't know the drill this should catch you up: www.pcgamer.com/watch-this-wow-player-speedrun-to-level-60-by-only-killing-boars I'm not gonna' lie, I didn't have faith in this whole experiment. I really didn't think it was going to be possible to just grind boars to 60, and here we are. 18,000 boars later this crazy kid has managed to hit level 56 and he's still truckin' along. If you've yet to check out his stream you absolutely should, and if you only checked in to say hi for 5 minutes you should stick around for longer. The dudes hilarious, and doles out a lot of little nuggets of legitimate wisdom despite running into an impressively horrible patch of luck that has left him close to eviction with multiple disconnection notices on his internet. But this dudes spirit just refuses to be broken, and he's doing something really brave by going so ham on his dream. Ultimately though, I just really want to see him succeed. He's one of the best guys I know and I honestly can't think of anyone that I would rather see succeed at something like this. Streaming is what Ian is hard wired for. He's also just a legitimately amazing all around person. He's saved me from the brink plenty of times, and he provides that for all of his friends and expects nothing in return. So here I am, trying to repay the favor and trying to get the hype up for the last leg of his journey. Hard times could definitely be in store for him, but he refuses to let that break him. I'm honestly proud of what he's accomplished in the face of so much adversity and everyone should go support such a legitimately good dude who refuses to let the memes die. [link] [comments]

Posted: 16 Feb 2018 09:48 AM PST Just throwing this up here as goblins seem to be the most unanimously hated race among the wow community, from what I've seen. I'm making this thread for the few goblin lovers on this sub. Why are goblins so great? Well, they aren't. And that's what's ironically great about them: they never claim to be anything more. Goblins know their roles in the Horde the selfish, dirty, money-grabbing, yet useful and effective producers. While orcs and tauren may go around yelling "loktar" and "blood and honor", they seem to forget that the horde owes a lot to the little green fuckers. Horde technological advancement that allows them to compete with both the dwarven and gnomish technology of the Alliance? Goblins. The entire economy of the Horde and its allies? Goblins. The fucking capital city of Orgrimmar? Goblins. However, you rarely see a goblin flaunt these things, even if they are hated by everyone both in game and in the real life wow community. An orc calls a goblin a greedy little midget, and the goblin doesn't rebut. He doesn't care. The goblin's mind is on the current trend of the auction house. A night elf curses goblins for ruining their hippie tree grove. Goblins don't care. Those trees can be used in construction efforts in Azshara. Goblins shouldn't be appreciated for anything like honor, fighting prowess, or nobility. They should be recognized for their guile, their frightening productivity and efficiency, and their refusal to let petty personal matters get in the way of progress. Anyway, here's the thread. Personally, I would be friends with a goblin over a night elf or a draenei anyday. Time is money, friend! [link] [comments]
A Long Defense/Analysis of Genn Greymane: The "Warmongering Mongrel" of the Alliance Posted: 16 Feb 2018 11:12 AM PST I'm sure all of us have heard a lot of criticism of Genn and Tyrande as the two most divisive and hypocritical Alliance leaders. In many ways, these two characters and the races they represent are the purest representation of the flaws of the current Alliance. They especially stand out in comparison to how the other faces of the Alliance are often portrayed: the downtrodden but persistent gnomes, the industrious and valorous dwarves, the wise and righteous draenei, and of course Anduin being the dictionary definition of idealism and compassion in a world of war. However, I would instead argue that we actually need more characters like Genn and Tyrande: people who are trying their best to do the right thing according to their own beliefs, even if that "right thing" doesn't always have the optimal results for all parties involved. (Just look at our current events if you want to see how many humans have good intentions but manage to fuck up spectacularly.) If WoW is to ever achieve a robust story beyond just black-and-white morality "obvious heroes are Good(tm), obvious villains are Bad(tm)", the writers should not be afraid to give characters both a visible flaw and an ideology actually worth believing in. In particular, I would invite everyone to look at Genn's situation from his point of view. There's a lot to talk about, so this post ended up being super long. To understand his choices, it's important to look at his past experiences and how they have shaped his perspective today. The following is a huge wall of text summarizing his lore, for those who are unfamiliar! Genn's history is one of pride in Gilneas and a fierce desire for independence. He is a notoriously arrogant man who was taught to avoid relying on the aid of others, as most famously seen when he cut Gilneas off from the rest of the Alliance because he did not want to help pay for the orc internment camps after the Second War. He has made many mistakes in hindsight, whether it was trying to suppress Crowley's rebellion or recruiting Archmage Arugal to use the worgen to defend Gilneas against the Scourge (uh... whoops). His situation appeared to be growing ever worse by the minute, especially when he himself contracted the worgen curse while the Forsaken attempted to invade. But in this moment of crisis, Genn at last listens to his conscience to do the right thing. He unites with Crowley's Liberation Front, leads the effort to help the feral worgen regain their minds, exposes his own curse to rally his people and bond with his son Liam, and personally fights Sylvanas to defend his homeland. During that battle, Liam jumps in the way of Sylvanas's poisoned arrow to protect Genn. Sylvanas cruelly taunts Genn (as per usual for her), and he is forced to live every parent's nightmare: burying their own child. Sylvanas also unleashes the plague to make Gilneas uninhabitable, and Genn must lead an evacuation of his now homeless people. Again, he now overcomes his pride to accept the aid of the night elves. Finally, at a diplomatic summit, Varian calls him out for his previous assholery and denies him from rejoining the Alliance even after Genn apologized for cutting Gilneas off. Genn is humiliated again, but he and Varian eventually reconcile after the worgen lend aid in Ashenvale. Gilneas reclaims its place among the members of the Alliance. A nice story of Genn learning from his mistakes and trying to make amends! ...And then after Cataclysm, Genn was legitimately forgotten by the writers, to the point where he became the butt of jokes. (If you haven't noticed, forgetting about entire characters and plotlines is a running theme in WoW writing :P) 2 expansions later.... In Legion, the writers wanted an excuse to dig up the faction conflict as an undercurrent running through the expansion. I guess someone on the team finally remembered how the Forsaken unleashed the plague to devastate Gilneas, drove Genn's people from their home and tried to raise them as undead, and killed Genn's son right in front of him. Genn's resentment and grudge towards Sylvanas was even further inflamed when the Horde seemingly abandons the Alliance at the Broken Shore, leading to Varian sacrificing himself against the Legion. Okay, was it a result of stupid miscommunication that could be calmed down with a single conversation? Of course. But I still count that as a win since it wasn't Corruption(Blizzard TM) or blatantly out of character. Now, remind me, why do we fight against the Legion? Because they seek to destroy our homes, corrupt our peoples, and murder our loved ones. For Genn, Sylvanas has done a far better job at all three of those than the Legion ever will. When he sees her up to some shady business in Stormheim, he goes to investigate, ready to go guns blazing if any of his suspicions are confirmed. When he sees Forsakan forces vulnerable, it's not unexpected that he will take any opportunity to avenge his people. And ultimately, his irrational fears were vindicated when he discovers his hated enemy is trying to obtain immortality via shady slavery of Eyir! Okay, that's a long summary of Genn's character arc so far. You can see how he is by no means a static character. He's made many mistakes and been thoroughly humbled at almost every turn. Now he looks back at all these losses and can see two primary causes: 1) his own arrogance and 2) Sylvanas. He's worked pretty hard on the arrogance part so far, to be fair, and he probably feels he's been punished pretty adequately for his past mistakes. Now he sees this external villainess who appears to be coasting along perfectly happy in her evil ways, even being declared Warchief of the Horde. Of course he's going to be understandably furious that she has escaped any form of justice. He won't look kindly on the rest of the Horde too, since in his POV they have turned a blind eye to her past, present, and future war crimes. In addition, the subtext for his character is fascinating IMO. It's implied that Genn's current warmongering is because he is unconsciously trying to overcompensate for his former cowardice/isolation. Perhaps his conscience beat him up that Darius had been right all along, so he has now taken on quite a few of Crowley's viewpoints. He has also been trying to atone for not being able to prevent Varian's death, via attempting to give advice to Anduin (to varying degrees of success of course, but he's trying). His mentorship of Anduin also has the dynamics of each being a substitute for the other's lost family member, "the son who lost a father and the father who lost a son." Tess's role in the rogue order hall storyline implies that he may be neglecting his daughter and his wife out of his guilt for Liam's sacrifice (ok maybe the Blizzard writers did actually forget about Mia Greymane). Genn is definitely no saint, but you can understand where he comes from. He's surprisingly relatable at times, despite being, you know, "King Fuck-ups the Wolfman". Because who among us hasn't made fuck-ups too? Stepping back and looking at the bigger picture... Overall, as far as faction conflicts go, I think the Gilnean-Forsaken rivalry is fairly well-written for Blizzard standards. Did Sylvanas want to invade Gilneas in the first place? No, Garrosh basically forced her to do so. Did Sylvanas want to use the plague? Uh well... at least I don't think she actively takes pleasure in it since it wasn't her first move. She used it as a last resort to try and stop excessive casualties from her people. Was Sylvanas justified in killing Liam? He was an enemy combatant defending another enemy combatant trying to kill her. However, as is tradition for Sylvanas being a dick, the combination of her pragmatic actions and her unnecessarily cruel words made her the villain of Genn's story. Let's take a very approximate real life comparison. If someone killed your son and mocked you for it, would you give a shit about their sob story or tragic past? Perhaps some of you would be compassionate, able to find a place in your heart to forgive them. Perhaps others of you would do anything necessary, make any bargain, to forge your child's murderer a new one. No single choice is automatically right or wrong. These moral dilemmas can involve a thousand different environmental and personal factors. No matter what, we should all keep in mind this inherent subjectivity. If nothing else, I laud Blizzard writers for being consistent with Genn's character. You can see how his entire history has led up to this point, where he wholeheartedly believes what he's doing is right. Some may agree with his thirst for vengeance, others believe his warmongering is crippling any chance of peace. Ultimately, it's all an exercise in empathy, in seeing the other side's perspective! I look forward to seeing exactly where Blizzard takes Genn and the worgen next in Battle for Azeroth. And thanks for reading this long monograph if you survived the entire way! TL;DR: Genn has fucked up a lot (like a lot a lot), but he's trying his best to be a good boi now. It's just that his perspective of being a "good boi" is very personal and not something everyone agrees with. And that's okay! In fact, it has the potential to make for a fantastic story. Why casters don't use their staffs? Posted: 16 Feb 2018 01:32 AM PST It's <the current year> already, and my staffs are still not involved in any casting animations. It's especially dumb with the artifact weapons, because you got this badass legendary weapon, that just hangs on your back all the time. Would it be that hard to include staffs in the casting animations? Am I the only one who wants them? [link] [comments]

With Lunar Festival starting tomorrow, finding Elders will be a great alternative to questing! Posted: 16 Feb 2018 10:13 AM PST The amount of xp will scale to your level as you find these guys. I would highly recommend getting the Handy Notes addon for Lunar Festival to keep track of the ones you need to obtain. You can pick that up here. https://www.curseforge.com/wow/addons/handynotes_lunarfestival While you can do this below 60, I would recommend you do this on a level 60 or higher toon to maximize travel time with flight. A huge positive here, is if you decide to use this method at 60, you can hit up all of the elders in EK, Kalimdor, Outland, and Northrend. While this may not be faster than flat out questing. This will provide you guys with an alternative that is much more relaxing. Especially for those of you that are not enjoying questing from 60-80. Break out those allied races, or alts you have collecting dust! Time to get your free xp on! [link] [comments] |
