Fire Lord Ne Zha and why directly purchasable skins don't sell that well

With the huge influx of "there are no directly purchasable skins anymoar !!1!1one!" posts, I'd figure I'd post my opinion as a CONSUMER on why event-exclusive skins (not chest exclusive skins. I'm not touching that here) are the best sales model for Smite.

And how I'm going to do that? By telling you the story of Fire Lord Ne Zha and its relationship with me.

I'm not a whale. But I'm also not a f2p player either. I don't have the luxury to spend hundreds of dollars in this game monthly like some do, but I do have the luxury of saving and buying a once-a-year huge gem pack on Black Friday. Essentially, I have 8k gems to spend withing an entire year. That may sound a lot to you, or maybe it's not enough. It doesn't really matter. The point is: I (and many other players) have a limited amount of money (gems, in this case) to spend until we refill that amount, which only happens maybe once every year.

So, what are HiRez's objectives here? To take those gems away from me, so that I'm inclined to refill my gems more than once every year, and thus give them more money. And how they are going to do that? By selling cosmetics.

And this is where Fire Lord Ne Zha (and many other directly purchasable skins) fall short: There is no incentive to buy that skin the moment it is released.

We can all agree that Fire Lord is a fucking good skin. When it was released, I wanted that skin. The effects are amazing, the skin quality is good, the voicepack is nice. There's everything you could've wanted in that skin.

But I have a limited amount of gems. I want to make the best use possible of my gems. So, am I going to spend 400 gems to get that skin, when I know it will eventually be put on sale? No, I'm not. I will wait until the price drops to 300. But then again, will I spend 300 on simply a skin? When I know in the future there will be some events (SOS, Odyssey) where I can buy an equally good skin for 400 gems and get some extra cosmetics involved (rewards, Odyssey Chests)? No, I won't.

Is there any incentive to make me buy Fire Lord Ne Zha right now? There isn't. I won't gain extra stuff for that price, I wouldn't be making the most of my limited gems and, most important of all, I know this skin will be there, available for me, in the future. This means I don't need to buy this skin right now, I can wait until my next yearly gem refill. I have no incentive to buy this skin when I can make the best use of my gems getting a 750 bundle (less than double the price of Fire Lord) and get 3 skins + other cosmetics, or wait until Odyssey to buy a 400 gem skin + Odyssey Chest + Odyssey Rewards progression.

So why buy Fire Lord Ne Zha right now? Why go out of my yearly gem refill to get a skin that I know will be there forever?

TL; DR I have no reason to get a good 400 gem skin that is always available when, for that same price, I can get another really good skin with a chest and rewards included. Or pay double and get triple the amounts of skins + extra cosmetics.

While I'm a support main and enjoy playing the role, sometimes I want to play a god in another role just for something different. However, it feels like whenever I try to move away from the guardian position, no one is willing to take the role, even though I'm playing it a great majority of the time in all my other games. Even if you think you're awesome, you can't be awesome all the time, and sometimes, other people deserve to be awesome too. I'm just sick of support players being punished just for wanting to try other roles.

Seriously, those three skins make me want to puke. They're horrendous, and if there is something that Afro-Dite and Soultaker proved is that we can make skins look actually good without removing what people liked about them. I remember it was stated that they would fix these skins at the start of this year, but I expected them to be a priority, since most complains are about them.

My friend thought that Odin consumed a Geb shield in a similar fashion to the bird bomb and would give Odin bonus damage.

Turns out Odin's shield will remove a Geb shield if it's on him when he uses his 2 and his he has his 2 up Geb cannot shield him.

My box says "Guaranteed Fox in 0 Chests" but it's been like that since box 1. I thought it was a visual bug, but after buying at least 15 chests and still getting nothing, that's a bit of a letdown.

This feels sinister, intentional even, like fraud. Tell someone they are due for a skin the next box they open and laugh as they get nothing. I hope if they ever do fix it we who over-opened get something in compensation.

Probably already asked, but is there a way to organize your favorite Gods?

In Heroes of the Storm, you can put little hearts on your favorite Hero and they'll be listed on the top in the Hero list. I bought the God Pack and I've been playing pretty much all day (I think I've been hooked...) and I've already got a few that I really like playing. I would like for them to be all grouped up together or something other than scrolling down the list, trying to find their portrait (still haven't gotten used to how they look :S)
