Tyr Skin Concept - Wasteland Warlord

Posted: 16 Feb 2018 07:51 PM PST

New player. Just want to share my experience after my first game.

Posted: 16 Feb 2018 04:58 AM PST

So for starters I'm a big player of Heroes of the Storm. And currently picked up Smite because my mate's been playing it for years and has convinced me to give it a shot. I initially rejected this game because the item shop and level scaling put me off but I thought what the hell.

So I've just finished the 4 turorial games playing as Thor in all of them. The twirl does great damage and I love the sound his ult makes when he winds up for the liftoff. I give the shop a browse and go through the games heroes and Scyille caught my eye. Those demon dog snakes look badass and the slow idle sway she does is just damn creepy.

I rent her out and join for the Arena queue. Joined the lobby and immediately informed my party of my fresh start. To my surprise I had a really awesome and helpful player who was giving me tips and combo strategies. I was just getting absolutely wrecked by the enemy dude who just sucks you in towards him before being informed of my dog teleport ability.

After the game the friendly player shot me an invite and kindly said if I had questions or just want to play some games I just had to ask.

Honestly this small act of kindness really brightened up my day and left my 1st game here on Smite with a really great impression. So I just thought I'd like to share this story with you guys in case you're in doubt of the community.

I definitely intend to keep playing and hopefully train a noob myself one day.

Like when Skadi and Erlang jump, their pets get a small jump stamp. A smaller figure than the actual player. Be pretty cool!

Anyone else having problem with 3x worshipper event worshipper gain?

Posted: 16 Feb 2018 09:31 AM PST

My brother, our mutual friend, and me got my stepdad to play smite about six months ago and he fell in love with Thor, getting him to rank 10.

Posted: 16 Feb 2018 04:44 PM PST

We just got out of Black Panther, sweet movie btw, and he said to us, "So [mutual friend] told me why I've been sucking so fucking bad. I haven't been leveling my 1,2,3's....." A few seconds later, my brother and I, obviously, started to cry we were laughing so hard. My stepdad got Thor to fucking rank 10 without leveling abilities. I can't believe it.

Seriouse question, those people who spam “need wards” constantly the whole game and end the game with 0 wards placed, what is your reasoning?

Posted: 16 Feb 2018 03:53 PM PST

So many times, usually in ranked matches, people will be spamming "need wards" "need wards". so you know i place my 2 wards every time i can. I end the game with like idk, mid 20's in wards. More often than not the person spamming "needs wards" would have 2-3 if not 0 wards placed.

Why you do dis?

Big Shout Out To Team Skin Boosters

Posted: 16 Feb 2018 07:39 PM PST

Let me start by saying I have a ton of skins but there will always still be some that got away.

Well today my teammate put on a booster and I finally got to strut my stuff in the Titan Vulcan skin I always wanted and feel like a badass like PrettyPrime.

I had a pretty nice kill with it too which I promptly forgot to save. My buddy got it but it's just not the same from his death cam.

Thanks to Hirez for the skin boosters and this is coming from somewhat of a whale. That game was a lot of fun.

Deathtimers in Arena = Unfun

Posted: 16 Feb 2018 01:35 PM PST

The game mode built around fun, has the rng deathtimers hitting up to 60 seconds. I understand that the deathtimers are somewhat influenced by tickets and kd but the mechanic is just unfun in arena, I just want to keep fighting

A Comprehensive S5 Solo Guide

Posted: 16 Feb 2018 03:19 PM PST

Solo Lane Guide for Season 5

I've seen many posts on the forums and here about season 5. Whether it be about builds, good gods, how to play a lane or whatever else. I've decided to put together a guide from my experience as a solo main in the solo lane. Solo has been my main roll since 2015 when I started playing. I like to think I'm fairly good at it, and at the very least I can tell you I'm very experienced. Currently, I have four gods that you typically see in the solo lane at diamond, and the vast majority at least at mastery 1. For the sake of time, I'm going to assume you know the basics of season 5. That being the map change, blessings, etc.

Important note. In my opinion, the biggest effect season 5 has had on the solo lane is the increase in map size. This will be gradually explained throughout the guide.

Now, for the guide.

There was quite a controversy at the start of the season over warrior's blessing. People were saying mage's blessing was a better call for a vast number of solo laners. I disagreed with this, so I won't be advising mage's blessing starts for typical solo laners. Obviously some people will disagree, but that's just my opinion. :)

Starting Items

Your typical start should look something like this:

  • Warrior's blessing
  • Tier 1 boots
  • 3 health / 3 mana or 3 health / 3 multi depending on your god
  • Relic of your choice

As for relics, teleport has made a comeback in S5 due to the increase in map size. Personally, I prefer to go for a more aggressive first relic. I normally play solos with good sustain, so I can afford to stay in lane a little longer and not worry about too much tower pressure. However, this is obviously a personal choice. I feel like teleport is a weaker option late game, but it can help you win the early game. Some other options include blink, weakening, meditation and shield. You'll have to test out which work best for you.

The reason why warrior's is so important is because it gives you tankiness and some sustain to be able to stay in lane. Solo has very much become a beat-it-up lane. You should constantly be in the face of the opposing solo laner, trying to dish out damage and force them out of lane. Ganks come less often because your jungle has tonnes of camps to farm, so you have to assume that pushing your lane and winning your lane is in your hands. Warrior's blessing is pivotal in gaining the upper hand on most solo gods.

Early Game

After buying your items, run directly to solo. You lane by yourself. Some players choose to fight the opposing solo before minions even arrive. Obviously this depends on your god, but the general rule is if you don't have sustain, try to avoid this early fight. Once your first wave arrives, kill it and then move over to your blue buff. Your jungle should be there starting to clear, and you can gain level 2 off this camp. Take your blue and then back to lane. From here on in, it becomes that beat-it-up style I mentioned before. As your blue buff respawns, you normally have the time to kill it yourself. Your jungle may drop it for you, but often enough they sort of forget about your side of the map due to the more important goal of contesting the opposing teams red buff and securing mid harpies. Don't be afraid to clear it yourself as camps are weaker in season 5.

It's not uncommon for this early laning phase to last for awhile, so don't feel pressure to have their tower down before 15 minutes in. In the early parts of the game, not dying is extremely important. Due to the map size increase, it will take you longer to get back to lane. This gives your enemy a ton of extra time to put damage on your tower. If you're playing someone far superior to you or you've simply just fallen behind, camp under tower and play it safe. Ask for help from your jungle and they may come over. Backing is something you do at your own discretion, but a general rule is to clear a wave then immediately back, and try not to back when the next wave coming has a big minion, as this will give your opponent a much easier time pressuring your tower, should they stay in lane. Wards aren't super important, because ganks aren't as common as season 4. However, don't be a cunt be a team player and place wards near the entrances to your lane, or closer to the fire giant.

Rotations

Rotations are far less common from the solo lane in season 5. This is, again, due to that map size increase. If you choose to rotate towards mid, they will often know you're coming long before you get there. The time taken to run to mid then run back to solo can cost you two waves worth of minions, plus however much tower pressure your counterpart puts on. To help decide if you should rotate, think of these things:

Am I winning lane? If so, a rotation can be made as your counterpart may be scared to push your tower due to you turning around and coming back.

Has the person your laning against rotated? If they're not in lane, you have a choice to make. Rotate, pressure their tower or back and get items. This is a judgement call. Is a team fight brewing? You should rotate. Can you see that your counterpart is on the other side of the map, and it's a waste of time for you to try and get there? Push their tower. Are you low on mana, health or just have a ton of gold? Return to base.

Will you get a kill or turn a fight in your teams favour?

Are you about to lose tower anyways, so why the fuck not?

Will you secure an objective if you rotate? Losing your tower is okay if you say, take out mids tower and then secure gold fury with your team. This is especially the case if your tower has already taken a beating.

Obviously I can't cover every possible situation, but the moral is: rotating is a judgement call. You have to understand what is at risk from a rotation due to the increase in map size. There is no textbook guide on when or when not to rotate. You have to feel it out yourself. Realistically, you'll rarely rotate. Season 5 has slowed down the game for solo laners. Unless you're rolling your opponent, you'll be fighting your own 1v1 in solo. You don't have time to help in fights as you may lose tower. There is obviously exceptions, but this is what I've found so far.

Late Game

Your roll late game is simple. Engage for your team, be in the fight constantly, pay attention to your squishes to make sure they don't get focused out, and if you can, finish off kills. You should be in every fight, all the time, trying to get to their squishies while also making sure your squishies don't get fucked. You're one of your teams tanks. Act like it. Basically, just be a badass. First in to the fight, last out.

That pretty much covers being a solo laner. It's pretty simple now. Now, I'll talk about items you can normally pick up as a solo laner and the benefits they have. This list is sectioned off, and generally the items that are higher in their sections are the ones I find the best (other than the relics). As for how you build, I've found solo has gone back to a supreme tanky lane. Due to the rampant lifesteal on mages, hunters and even assassins, unless you're building full damage you'll find it hard to focus people down in teamfights. If you do choose to build full damage, you'll get nuked and your team will be missing a frontline. Obviously there is exceptions, but this is what I've found. I normally base my build off this template:

  • Item 1: Boots (after your blessing of course)
  • Item 2: Defence against your counterpart
  • Item 3: Whichever defence you didn't get item 2
  • Item 4: Defence against both phys and magical
  • Item 5: Defence against whichever god(s) is damaging you most, or defence against both phys and magical
  • Item 6: Situational dependent on your god. Some gods, for example, benefit hugely from Shield of Regrowth. Obviously you wouldn't get it sixth item, but the situational item can be slid in to the build wherever you see fit. You can also make this a damage item and slide it in somewhere. Or you can stack on more defence. Or you can get an HP5 item. It's completely up to you.

Relics

Teleport Glyph is an item that makes it virtually impossible to lose lane and if you do lose lane with it you're a fucking shitter and should uninstall. You'll be able to back safely and not worry about tower pressure, but in my opinion late in the game it's usefulness is severely less.

Meditation is good for sustaining yourself in lane, but I rarely pick it up. Again, one of those relics that outlives it's usefulness later in the game. It's not bad late game, but other relics can be much more useful in a team fight.

Magic Shell is a relic better known as the oh fuck I'm about to die FUUUUUCK which, again, can outlive it's usefulness. It's good to save you early or give you the edge in a close fight in lane, but chances are late game if you have to use shell in a fight it's probably because your squishies got nuked and you use it so that they don't die as they run away to base. That means you lost the fight. Other relics have more usefulness in fights.

Blink is essential on some solo laners, okay on others, and bad on the rest. Gods like Odin, Chaac and Tyr benefit immensely from this item, and for them I would say it's worthwhile getting it as your first relic. Other gods don't get as much use out of it, so it can be avoided.

Horrific Emblem is normally my relic of choice if I'm playing a god that doesn't use blink. I like to play aggressive, and horrific emblem lends itself well to an aggressive god / playstyle. It's also hugely useful in a teamfight later in the game.

Heavenly Agility is an okay pickup if you get spooped easily and love to run away on almost any solo god. It's not amazing, there's better options, but grab it and it won't absolutely fuck you over.

Shield of Thorns plain and simply is your second relic. It is essential on a solo laner late game, as if you follow my build advice you will be tanky and in the face of the enemy team, soaking up damage. You should always get this relic as it can easily turn a team fight in your favour.

Items

Warrior Tabi is a standard pickup for most solo laners. Good power and makes you wiggle around a bit faster. Not much else to say.

Physical Defence

Hide of the Nemean Lion is a great item this season. It may have fallen off a bit due to the recent changes to crit, but with all the gods still building crit it's a very good pickup. Pivotal if you're facing an ADC building crit and a jungler, such as merc, building crit. It also had a bit of mana and MP5 which is nice too.

Breastplate of Valor is an okay defence item which also offers cooldowns. It can be a good pickup on a mana hungry warrior, but it shouldn't stay in your build into the late game. However, early game this is almost always the first defence item I get. It offers up a bunch of extremely useful perks for the early game. It can be replaced by an item like Mantle of Discord later on. If you want to cap CDR it can be useful to keep in your build, but you can often find CDR in other places.

Spectral Armor is another possible option to counter crit. However, with the recent nerf to crit I feel like we'll see it less, and where it is it will be less potent. Obviously this item can still have it's uses, but I believe Nemean to be superior.

Gladiator's Shield is another more niche item which you need on some gods but can be avoided on most. It being this low on the list isn't indicative of it's usefulness but because it's only built successfully on a select few gods. When it is build, it offers a nice bit of power, protections, cooldowns and good sustain in lane.

Mystical Mail is one of those items where you need the right god to make it work. It offers up a good bit of health, but poor protections for a hefty price. For certain god builds and against certain compositions it can be a staple item, but unless your god needs it, it can be avoided.

Midgardian Mail is an extremely situational item, much like Shogun's Kisari, except instead of having your team be auto attack based, you can pick it up if the enemy team is auto attack based. It's valuable if you're facing an auto attack based solo, such as Bellona or Osiris, an auto attack based jungler such as Mercury and an auto attack based hunter. Even then, I normally pick up Hide of the Nemean Lion for the vastly superior protections.

Shifter's Shield is one of those items you can get if you want a bit of power but you aren't sure you're tanky enough. I rarely pick it up, but I've seen it used to good effect before. It offers you power when you need power and defence when you need defence. Pretty simple.

Physical and Magical Defence

Mantle of Discord is another great item. It offers up solid defence against both physical and magical, and it has a nice little passive as well as cooldowns. This item almost always finds its way into my builds, no matter what solo god I'm playing.

Hide of the Urchin is another great item. Going along with the tankiness I feel you should go for in the solo lane, this item works great for that. It gives tonnes of protections, which is it's main use, and it also gives a nice bit of health and mana. The passive is also completely fucking useless a nice little boost to your health.

Spirit Robe is the worst of the robe / hide / mantle tree. We don't talk about Magi's Blessing. Obviously, it has a time and a place where it can be used, but with the small amount of protections it offers compared to the other items in it's tree, unless you're truly getting fucked by crowd control you can find a better use in the other two items listed.

Magical Defence

Pestilence is, in my opinion, the best magical defence item in the game currently. With the insane amount of lifesteal going around, this item is essential on a solo laner. Not only does it have the great anti heal effect, but it also provides a whopping 80 magical protection. Get it. Every time.

Bulwark of Hope is by no means a bad pickup for magical defence. I find it to be less useful than pestilence with how the meta is currently, but it's good against comps with lots of crowd control. The shield is also nice for when you've dove a bit too deep.

Shogun's Kisari is another one of those items where you need the right god and the right team comp to get it's full use. If you have an auto attack based jungle, auto attack based ADC and you yourself are playing an auto attack based solo, few items are better than this. That's rarely the case however, so you can avoid it. Also, if you do choose to build it, make sure your guardian hasn't sneaked it into their build too.

Genji's Guard is an item that is by no means bad, but isn't super great either. If you're looking to cap out CDR and you haven't found it through other items, this can be a good pickup. It also guarantees you'll never run out of mana, so if for whatever reason you're struggling for mana you can grab this item.

Ancile is a bit of a cheeky item I like to grab against magical solo laners. It offers up a nice chunk of power and a good bit of protections. This is often my first item after boots if I face a magical solo, due to all the benefits it gives you. The passive is also insanely useful against certain gods. Later in the game this can, and should, be sold for something like Pestilence.

HP5 / Health

Stone of Gaia offers up a lot of health and HP5, as well as an extremely useful passive in the right situations. This is normally my 6th item I'll get as it truly rounds off a tanky build. Lots of hp, lots of HP5, a good amount of MP5, and not one, but two passives which promote getting in the face of your opponents and fucking shit up being a proper frontline for your team.

Shield of Regrowth is a niche item which is essential on some builds but useless on others. It gives a nice bit of HP, cooldowns, HP5 and MP5. What you get this item for, however, is it's passive. It is a must grab on gods like Hercules and Chaac as it makes it impossible to escape you and gives you an easy way to run away if you've over extended.

Power

Brawler's Beatstick is the item that replaced Jotunn's for me. In this meta where lifesteal is rampant, if I choose to go for a power item as my situational item it will normally be this. It gives a good amount of power, flat pen and has the awesome passive anti heal.

Transcendence is a tantalizing item that completely throws my build into disarray. I rarely build it, but when I do you almost have to go for it second item. This means you have to play aggressive, box well and land all your abilities. You can go for it third item but by this point in the game you're often in a situation where team fights are happening and you'll be weak to one form of damage. If you get it second item, you can build a phys/mag defence item third which makes you more tanky. It gives a lot of power, a lot of mana, a lot of MP5, and 10% cooldowns. If you're going to build transcendence, you go into a game expecting to build it and you throw the balls to the wall and fucking go for it you run the risk of falling behind due to lack of tankiness, or skyrocketing ahead by rolling your opponent.

Jotunn's Wrath is a great example of how the mighty have fallen. It used to be nearly essential on any skill based solo, but now it's easily avoided. You can cap out CDR with defensive items, and there's power items which have much more utility than Jotunn's. It is by no means a bad item, as it offers up a nice bit of power and penetration, but there are superior options. If I do build it, it's because I want to do damage in the early game. It always gets sold later.

Frostbound Hammer is another one of those items that is essential on some gods but mediocre on others. It gives a nice bit of health, an okay amount of power and has a great passive for auto attack based solo laners. If you don't use autos, in my opinion, there are better items to use.

That rounds off the items. I may have forgotten a few, but if I did they're probably shit and if you use them you're bad feel free to remind me in the comments. I'll include a few example builds for my favourite gods below.

Example full build for my favourite god, Chaac:

Relic 1: Blink Relic 2: Shield of Thorns

  • Warrior Tabi
  • Breastplate of Valor (later sold for Hide of the Nemean Lion)
  • Shield of Regrowth
  • Pestilence
  • Hide of the Urchin
  • Mantle of Discord

Another example Chaac build, if I'm feeling damage-y early:

Relic 1: Blink Relic 2: Shield of Thorns

  • Warrior Tabi
  • Jotunn's Wrath (later sold for a magical defence item)
  • Breastplate of Valor (later sold for Hide of the Nemean Lion)
  • Shield of Regrowth
  • Hide of the Urchin
  • Mantle of Discord

Example build for a god that wouldn't benefit from a niche item:

Relic 1: Teleport Glyph / Weakening Curse Relic 2: Shield of Thorns

  • Warrior Tabi
  • Breastplate of Valor (later sold for Hide of the Nemean Lion)
  • Pestilence
  • Hide of the Urchin
  • Mantle of Discord
  • Stone of Gaia

Obviously this build is just an example. No two gods are built exactly the same in every situation, but you can't go too far wrong with that build.

If you made it this far, I hope you enjoyed the guide and that you learned something. If you have any tips or questions for me feel free to let me know. If you disagree with something I've said, go fuck yourself let me know in the comments and maybe you can change my mind.

Could we please get some sort of VGS or text chat in Console lobby?

Posted: 16 Feb 2018 05:47 AM PST

Title. It would be great if we could somehow communicate in console lobbies, other than calling out roles "Fill", "Mid", etc.

Currently it sucks in ranked because you can't communicate for creating a good team comp (e.g., people picking Hel when enemy team has already picked Odin/Serqet, wish there was a way to tell them "No!").

I guess this can be done through voice chat but would it really bad that hard to add a VGS as well for people without mics?

What Assassins make the best use of Hastened?

Posted: 16 Feb 2018 07:48 PM PST

I like Hastened Katana, but on a lot of Assassins I play I can't seem to find a convenient spot to fit it into my build or they just outright don't need it.

I was wondering which Assassins, if any, make good use of this item?
