So I downloaded Skyrim on PC since I upgraded mine, and I didn’t need SE on PS4 anymore, so I gave my copy of Skyrim to my friend who’s never player it, on the condition that he keeps me caught up with his progress.

Work in Progress: Getting the most out of Skyrim in one playthrough.

Posted: 17 Feb 2018 07:51 AM PST

Skyrim is a huge game with many main and side quests that, frankly, do not moralistically support each other. For example; the 'Honor' of the companions and the 'Tenets' of the Dark Brotherhood do conflict.

I have been working on a solution to the problem of thematically having a reason to use and raise all of your skills and simultaneously navigate through all of the quests.

Stealing from the in-game lore, the series of books by Reven about Eslaf Erol entitled Beggar, Thief, Warrior, King - provides a compromise solution. So I have endeavored to play a single character through this trek of adaptation of morals. [Yes, I AM aware that Reven = Never and Eslaf Erol is 'False Lore']

Start as a Beggar. Level Speech and Pickpocket as high as you can before you get bored. Wear rags. Don't own anything. Get to know the beggars in the major cities. Find places to sleep. Make undesirable friends.

Then, at some point, join the Thieves Guild and add the rest of the Path of Shadow skills (lockpicking, sneak, Light Armor, Alchemy) and maybe at this point add some combat skills - there is an archery trainer in the Thieves Guild. Finish that questline. Illusion magic is very useful to thieves.

At that point you are ready to become a Warrior. You can join the Mages College and the Companions - work on offensive and defensive physical combat and/or magical combat skills. Heavy Armor, 1H, 2H, Block, Destruction, Conjuration, Smithing, Enchanting, Alteration, Restoration. Since you are leaving your Thieving skills behind, you can legendary the ones you won't need like Pickpocket, maybe even Lockpicking, maybe Sneak. Finish the Main Quest.

Then, after those skills are good, enter the King phase. The King is a Thane in every hold, owns all the houses and has vast wealth and masters every skill. By now virtually every citizen of Skyrim is either a good friend or has been slain. You ride Dragons into battle. You collect Daedric Artifacts and display them in your trophy rooms that span the province.

That is the general path, you should add whatever racial or lifestyle flavor you wish.

Let me know if you have thoughts or comments!!

Edit: I have not mentioned the Dark Brotherhood. I am not sure what the right time to complete that questline is, my current thought says 'Between Warrior and King phase" but - the Thief skills are a great asset so - maybe better is between Thief and Warrior? Not. sure.

I've been playing this game for 6 years, and there are two things I've heard of I still haven't encountered. Can I have some help with that?

Posted: 17 Feb 2018 07:10 AM PST

First up, is dragon priests. Seriously, where the freak are they? I feel like I've seen ever nook and cranny of the game, but I guess not if I've never seen one. Where can I find one? I suppose a quick Google search would've worked, but this one is a bit more small and specific.

Where is this giant tree branch bridge? I've seen it in videos and gifs, people shooting at a bandit that stands on it from far away and Fus Ro Dah'ing them off, but I can't find it. To be fair, I know I saw it once, but years ago, like, when I first started playing in early 2012, six years ago. Where is it?

Thanks in advance :)

I was knocked out by a mudcrab. AMA

Posted: 16 Feb 2018 08:17 AM PST

I'm running a Lord Vampire Heavy Armour Orc, but I'm using a few combat and immersion mods, such as Wildcat, True Armour and Death Alternative, as well as leveling up enemies.

Thing is, pesky mudcrab somehow gutted half of my health in one hit, and even with Longhammer, I couldn't kill it in time and Serana was nowhere to be found.

It was a disgrace for me and for my clan.

I'm sorry.
